Dans un Vietnam en pleine insurrection, tiraillé entre une soif d’indépendance et l’emprise aveugle d’un empire colonial, Guillaume Nicloux nous entraîne en enfer à travers rage et vengeance. Voilà les deux sentiments qui habitent Robert Tassen (Gaspard Ulliel). Un héros sans but, sans accroche. Un héros à première vue vide de toutes émotions et qui pourtant est submergé sans cesse par la rage, l’amour et la colère. Un héros qui ne trouve pas sa place.
Le réalisateur nous plonge à merveille dans une narration lente et enivrante notamment grâce de beaux silences et de bons dialogues récités justement par de grands acteurs. Gaspard Ulliel parvient tout au long du film à nous emmener dans cette errance sans fin. Il nous emporte tout du long animé par un regard perdu et un jeu époustouflant. On retient également Guillaume Gouix qui livre dans ce long métrage une prestation remarquable au personnage d’un naturel époustouflant, habité par la crainte, le désir et la peur. Sans oublier un Gérard Depardieu qui ne nous laisse évidemment pas non plus indifférent, et se dévoile avec une pudeur magnifique.
« Les Confins du monde » est donc un très grand film au rythme affolant, mené par un silence assourdissant et des dialogues puissants. À voir absolument !

In a Vietnam in the throes of an uprising, torn between a thirst for independence and the blind grip of a colonial empire, Guillaume Nicloux drags us into hell through rage and vengeance. These are the two emotions that drive Robert Tassen (Gaspard Ulliel). A hero without a purpose, with no anchor. A hero who, at first glance, seems devoid of all emotion, yet is constantly overwhelmed by rage, love, and anger. A hero who cannot find his place.
The director masterfully draws us into a slow, intoxicating narrative, thanks in particular to beautiful silences and well-crafted dialogue delivered by a stellar cast. Throughout the film, Gaspard Ulliel manages to take us along on this endless journey. He carries us along the entire way, driven by a lost gaze and breathtaking acting. Guillaume Gouix also stands out, delivering a remarkable performance in this film as his character is breathtakingly natural, haunted by dread, desire, and fear. And Gérard Depardieu, of course, leaves no one indifferent either, revealing himself with magnificent restraint.
“To the Ends of the World” is, therefore, a truly great film with a breakneck pace, driven by deafening silence and powerful dialogue. A must-see!
