Le second film du jeune réalisateur britannique Harry Macqueen met en scène le dernier voyage en amoureux de Sam (Colin Firth) et de Tusker (Stanley Tucci), qui repartent sur les terres de leur jeunesse, auprès de leurs proches. Tusker est atteint d’une grave maladie, mettant leur couple à rude épreuve.
« Supernova » est une magnifique fresque humaine qui ne laissera personne indifférent. Les longs dialogues, extrêmement touchants, sont d’une rare justesse. Le rythme lent du film s’articule parfaitement avec de magnifiques plans sur la campagne et les vallées de Grande-Bretagne. Une photographie sublime, renforcée par un jeu d’acteurs époustouflant.
Ce film, au-delà des émotions qu’il provoque, propose un sacré pari. Celui d’aborder le sujet sensible de la fin de vie, de son appréhension et de son acceptation (ou non). Il est ici question de sacrifice, de vie avec la maladie, sur fond d’une histoire d’amour poignante racontée avec subtilité.

“Supernova” is a magnificent human tale that will leave no one indifferent. The long and extremely touching dialogues are of a rare rightness. The slow pace of the film perfectly matches the magnificent shots of the British countryside and valleys. The cinematography is stunning, enhanced by a breathtaking acting.
This film, beyond the emotions it triggers, offers a great challenge. It tackles the sensitive subject of the end of life, its apprehension and its acceptance (or not). It is a question of sacrifice, of living with illness, with a poignant love story on the background told with subtlety.
“Supernova” is a true testimony. It is the story of a couple who love each other above all despite the increasing difficulties of everyday life.
