« Rocketman » serait-il Bohemian Rhapsody 2.0, telle est la question qu’on pouvait se poser avant la sortie de ce nouveau film de Dexter Fletcher. La réponse : c’est dix fois mieux ! Pour comparer certains aspects avec le biopic sur Freddie Mercury, celui-ci racontant l’histoire du jeune Reginald Dwight aka Elton John, est bien plus prenant et surprenant avec tout d’abord un script non linéaire et une bien meilleure utilisation des musiques autant dans les scènes que dans leur contexte. « Rocketman » nous fait également vivre l’imagination de l’artiste ainsi que celle du public lors des concerts telle un véritable rêve musical, un aspect particulièrement manquant dans « Bohemian Rhapsody » et qui s’accorde parfaitement à l’univers d’Elton John nous permettant une bien meilleure introspection du personnage que celle qu’on avait eue avec Mercury. Outre cela, Taron Egerton fait un travail remarquable en incarnant Reggie et Elton, et sa relation avec Bernie (Jamie Bell) est un autre gros point fort du film.

Would « Rocketman » be the Bohemian Rhapsody 2.0, that is the question we could all wonder before the release of this new Dexter Fletcher movie. The answer: it’s ten times better! To compare some aspects with Freddie Mercury’s biopic, this one, which is telling the story of the young Reginald Dwight aka Elton John, is much more engaging and surprising with first of all a non-linear script and a much better use of music both in the scenes and in their context. « Rocketman » also makes us experience the artist’s imagination as well as the audience’s during the concerts as a true musical fantasy, an aspect particularly missing in « Bohemian Rhapsody » and which perfectly matches Elton John’s world, allowing us a much better insight into the character than what we had with Mercury. In addition, Taron Egerton does a remarkable job as Reggie and Elton, and his relationship with Bernie (Jamie Bell) is another big strength of the film.
