Mando, le retour !
La première série Star Wars en live-action est de retour sur Disney+ ce vendredi et elle est d’ores et déjà au RDV avec un premier épisode absolument excellent ! Alors, pourquoi le chapitre neuf réussit-il si bien ?
Tout d’abord, en tant que grand fan on apprécie toujours revoir tout un tas d’easter eggs cachés du Dragon Krayt point central de l’intrigue (issu de deux petits détails d’Un Nouvel Espoir) à Cobb Vanth le Marshal (issu de la trilogie de romans canon « Riposte » où il est un personnage très mineur qui porterait l’armure de Boba Fett) en passant par le droïde R5 … Mais un ensemble de références pour faire plaisir à la fanbase ne fait pas nécessairement un bon épisode.
Mais le chapitre 9, c’est aussi une continuation de tous les éléments qui faisaient le charme de la première saison, l’aspect badass de Mando, des plans adorables sur Baby Yoda (qui ferme son berceau à l’approche des oiseaux sifflants de Djin), l’ambiance western et l’homme sans nom de Clint Eastwood qui arrive dans un village perdu.
L’épisode arrive également à apporter des nouveautés qui font plaisir des simples équipements de l’armure mandalorienne à la socialisation des Tuskens qui sont vus comme des pillards mais qui ont eux-mêmes ce point de vue des humains et qui sont ici humanisés avec le brossage de dents du Bantha ou leur langue qu’utilise Mando ce qui n’en fait plus des barbares incompréhensibles. De plus c’est appréciable de voir que tout le monde ne parle pas le basic dans l’univers Star Wars, ce qui est souvent le cas dans les films. De la même manière, la série continue d’utiliser des espèces secondaires dans les films tel que le Barman Weequay dans cet épisode.
Enfin, cet épisode est excellent car il arrive à me faire réapprécier l’épisode que j’avais le moins aimé dans la première saison en lui donnant plus de sens, plus de profondeur. Le chapitre 9 est en effet très lié au 5, avec le retour sur Tatooine mais déjà le semblant d’une réponse au cliffhanger laissé en suspens dans le 5.

Pour finir, le plan final est génial ! Non seulement la photographie est magnifique avec le couché des soleils de Tatooine mais le retour enfin de Boba Fett joué par Temuera Morrison ce qui ouvre de nombreuses portes à l’avenir …
Mando is back!
The first live-action Star Wars TV show is back on Disney+ this Friday and it’s already delivering with an absolutely amazing first episode! So, why is chapter nine so successful?
First of all, as a big fan you always enjoy seeing a whole bunch of hidden easter eggs from the Krayt Dragon central point of the plot (from two little details of A New Hope) to Cobb Vanth the Marshal (from the trilogy of canon novels « Aftermath » where he is a very minor character who supposedly wears Boba Fett’s armor) to the droid R5 … But a collection of references to please the fanbase doesn’t necessarily make a good episode.
But chapter 9 is also a continuation of all the elements that made the charm of the first season, the badass aspect of Mando, adorable shots on Baby Yoda (who closes his cradle at the approach of Djin’s whistling birds), the western feel and the nameless man of Clint Eastwood who arrives in a lost village.
The episode also succeeds in bringing new things that delight from the mere equipment of the Mandalorian armor to the socialization of the Tuskens who are seen as raiders but who themselves have this point of view of humans and who are here humanized with the tooth brushing of the Bantha or their language used by Mando which no longer makes them incomprehensible barbarians. Moreover, it’s nice to see that not everyone speaks basic in the Star Wars universe, which is often the case in the movies. In the same way, the series continues to use secondary species in movies such as the Weequay Bartender in this episode.
Finally, this episode is excellent because it manages to make me reappreciate the episode I liked the least in the first season by giving it more meaning, more depth. Chapter 9 is indeed very linked to the 5th, with the return to Tatooine but already gives us the semblance of an answer to the cliffhanger left pending in the 5th.

Finally, the final plan is awesome! Not only the cinematography is beautiful with the sunsets of Tatooine but the return of Boba Fett played by Temuera Morrison which opens many doors for the future …
