Afghanistan 2014, frontière du Pakistan, alors que le capitaine Antarès Bonassieu et sa section sont affectés à une mission de contrôle dans une vallée reculée du Wakhan, de mystérieuses disparitions ont lieu en pleine nuit.
Après 5 ans de travail et de documentation sur les opérations en Afghanistan ainsi que sur les relations avec les populations locales c’est au sein de l’armée française et dans les montagnes de l’Atlas que Clément Cogitore installe les bases de son récit fantastique, véritable fable contemporaine. À ses côtés il dessine quelques personnages habités par des acteurs remarquables. Jeremy Rennier, interprète du capitaine Bonassieu livre une performance saisissante d’un personnage torturé, prisonnier d’une vallée où le réel se ploie devant l’inexplicable. À ses côtés nous retrouvons une nouvelle génération d’acteurs, Swann Arlaud (« Petit Paysan », Grâce à Dieu »), Kévin Azaïs (« Compte tes blessures ») ou encore Finnegan Oldfield (« Marvin ou la belle éducation ») qui ensemble forment une réelle dynamique de jeu, interprétant chacun des personnages complexes et fragiles.
Même si Clément Cogitore ne parvient pas à donner un réel sens à son film, il nous attire dans un séduisant mystère unique clé d’un récit métaphysique où le délicat se heurte à une certaine violence. Il questionne ainsi plusieurs notions telles que la disparition ou le deuil face à l’irrationnel. Et dans une tension constante, l’artiste contemporain originaire d’Alsace s’amuse au travers d’une réalisation pourtant classique à travailler la forme jouant sur les couleurs, les sons et la lumière, véritables repères d’un conte éphéméride.
Accompagné à l’écriture par Thomas Bidegain (« Le prophète », « Saint Laurent ») le jeune réalisateur français nous livre un film tout en murmure, où la pensé se meut en une métaphore guerrière. Filmée par moment avec du matériel militaire comme des caméras thermiques et mêlant musique religieuse et électronique « Ni le ciel ni la terre » est une véritable œuvre métaphysique à mi-chemin entre les genres. Un film où le glaive épouse les contours d’une philosophie nous attirant avec grâce dans un conte poétique et sous testostérone.

Afghanistan 2014, border of Pakistan, while Captain Antarès Bonassieu and his platoon are assigned to a patrolling mission in a remote valley of the Wakhan, mysterious disappearances take place in the middle of the night.
After 5 years of work and documentation on operations in Afghanistan as well as on relations with the local population, it is within the French army and in the Atlas Mountains that Clément Cogitore lays the foundations of his fantasy tale, a true contemporary fable. At his side he draws some characters inhabited by remarkable actors. Jeremy Rennier, who plays Captain Bonassieu, delivers a gripping performance of a tortured character, prisoner of a valley where reality bends before the inexplicable. At his side we find a new generation of actors, Swann Arlaud (« Little Peasant », « Thanks to God »), Kévin Azaïs (« Count your wounds ») or Finnegan Oldfield (« Marvin or the beautiful education ») who together form a real dynamic of play, interpreting each of the complex and fragile characters.
Even if Clément Cogitore does not manage to give a real meaning to his film, he draws us into an attractive mystery that is the only key to a metaphysical narrative where the delicate meets a certain violence. He thus questions several notions such as disappearance or mourning in the face of the irrational. And in a constant tension, the contemporary artist native of Alsace enjoys through a realization nevertheless classic to work the form playing on colors, sounds and light, real landmarks of an ephemeral tale.
Accompanied in writing by Thomas Bidegain (« The Prophet », « Saint Laurent »), the young French director gives us a whispering film, where the thought moves in a war metaphor. Filmed at times with military equipment such as thermal cameras and mixing religious and electronic music, « Ni le ciel ni la terre » is a true metaphysical work halfway between genres. A film in which the sword follows the contours of a philosophy gracefully drawing us into a poetic tale under testosterone.
