En quelques mots :
« Restrepo », ainsi que sa suite intitulée « Korengal », est un documentaire réalisé par les journalistes Sebastian Junger et Tim Hetherington et sorti en 2010. Ils ont suivi une compagnie d’infanterie de l’armée américaine déployée dans la vallée de Korengal, une des régions les plus dangereuses d’Afghanistan. Le film ne rentre pas dans l’analyse politique du conflit et ne cherche pas non plus à mettre en scène de manière héroïque les soldats, il montre purement et simplement la guerre ! Il ne s’appuie pas sur une narration mais sur le témoignage des survivants et humanise ce récit des combats en montrant les rires, les larmes et les sourires des soldats suivant les ordres de leur hiérarchie qui semblent pourtant être totalement futiles. Un documentaire dérangeant, effrayant par moment mais avant tout émouvant.

« Restrepo », as well as its sequel entitled « Korengal », is a documentary directed by journalists Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington and released in 2010. They followed a US Army infantry company deployed in the Korengal Valley, one of Afghanistan’s most dangerous areas. The film does not analyze the conflict in political terms and does not seek to portray the soldiers in a heroic way, it simply shows the war! It is not based on a narration but on the testimony of the survivors and humanizes this report of the fighting by showing the laughter, tears and smiles of the soldiers following the orders of their hierarchy, which however seem to be totally pointless. A troubling documentary, scary at times but first and foremost moving with very raw moments.
