Si « Free Guy » était le film de l’été 2021, cette année « Bullet Train » s’impose comme le parfait divertissement estival !
Après « Atomic Blonde », « Deadpool 2 », et « Hobbs & Shaw », David Leitch revient avec une nouvelle comédie à grand spectacle hors franchise quelque part entre du Tarantino et du Guy Ritchie. Le réalisateur et ancienne doublure cascade de Brad Pitt retrouve son poulain dans le rôle principal d’un impressionnant casting avec notamment Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Andrew Koji et une large distribution surprise … Brad Pitt y prend un malin plaisir à jouer Coccinelle, un assassin malchanceux qui embarque dans un train à grande vitesse japonais aux côtés de redoutables adversaires partageant tous des objectifs complémentaires mais contradictoires.
Avec « Bullet Train » on oublie le film d’action ultra réaliste et on passe tout au second degré dans une ambiance manga mélangeant très efficacement une action déjantée et un humour rocambolesque. Avec son scénario alambiqué, son rythme particulièrement soutenu, et son style hyper coloré et dynamique, « Bullet Train » réussit son pari et nous embarque dans un divertissement très agréable. Tourné intégralement durant le Covid, il faut par ailleurs souligner l’excellent travail sur les décors créés intégralement en studio, et qui ne font pas réalistes, mais réussissent à donner au film son esthétique dans des espaces très réduits et s’inscrivent ainsi parfaitement dans une comédie d’action au ton décalé.

After “Atomic Blonde”, “Deadpool 2”, and “Hobbs & Shaw”, David Leitch returns with a new non-franchise comedy sensation somewhere between Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. The director and former stunt double for Brad Pitt reunites with his protégé in the lead role of an impressive cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Andrew Koji and an extensive surprise cast … Brad Pitt has fun playing Ladybug, an unlucky assassin who boards a Japanese high-speed train alongside fearsome adversaries all with connected and yet conflicted objectives.
With “Bullet Train” forget the ultra-realistic action movie and switch everything to the second degree in a manga environment mixing very effectively a crazy action and a ridiculous humor. With its convoluted plot, its particularly fast pace, and its hyper colored and dynamic style, “Bullet Train” succeeds in its mission and takes us into a very pleasant entertainment. Shot entirely during Covid, it is worth mentioning the excellent work on the sets created entirely on a soundstage, which do not look realistic, but give the film its aesthetics in very tight spots and are therefore perfectly in line with an action comedy with an offbeat tone.
