François Civil et Lyna Khoudri se retrouvent une nouvelle fois après « Les Trois Mousquetaires » et « Buzz L’Eclair » poursuivant ainsi leur couple de cinéma dans une intrigue les mettant en scène dans une ZAD (zone à défendre pour les uns ; zone d’aménagement différé pour les autres) française. Greg est un officier de police chargé d’infiltrer la ZAD où Myriam est militante à temps plein. Produit par Chi-Fou-Mi, « Une zone à défendre » est le premier long-métrage français diffusé sur Disney+, témoignant une nouvelle fois des choix politiques du géant américain pour ses productions françaises après la série militante « Oussekine » qui faisait état de la faillite de l’Etat français et maintenant avec un film où les gendarmes frappent des manifestants face caméra. Ce dernier mêle drame, romance et thriller dans une fiction sans temps morts traversés par des enjeux politiques et surtout des questions morales.
Pour son troisième film, Romain Cogitore (Nos résistances) nous emmène dans un milieu presque inexistant au cinéma, dans une ZAD crédible, une communauté hors de la République et hors du temps. Si c’est bien un film de plateforme, « Une zone à défendre » ne tombe pas dans la caricature, ni dans sa romance, ni dans sa dimension d’infiltration à suspense. Malgré un troisième acte un peu plus hésitant, le film se veut honnête avec ses deux protagonistes, et met en scène une histoire captivante et pertinente tant son sujet est toujours d’actualité.

Produced by Chi-Fou-Mi, “A place to fight for” is the first French feature film to air on Disney+, once again demonstrating the American giant’s political approach to its French productions, after the activist TV show “Oussekine”, which explored the failure of the French state, and now with a film in which policemen beat up demonstrators on camera. This movie mixes drama, romance and thriller in a non-stop fictional story with political issues and, above all, moral questions.
For his third feature, Romain Cogitore (Nos résistances) takes us into a world almost non-existent in cinema, a believable ZAD, a community beyond the Republic and beyond time. If this is indeed a streaming movie, “A place to fight for” doesn’t fall into caricature, either in its romance or its suspenseful undercover element. Despite a slightly more hesitant third act, the film is true to its two protagonists, and stages a captivating and relevant story, as its subject matter is still very much alive.
