Avec cette adaptation du roman éponyme de Sandro Veronesi (Prix Strega 2020), Francesca Archibugi (Question de Cœur) met en scène une fresque sentimentale menée par Pierfrancesco Favino aux côtés de Bérénice Bejo, Kasia Smutniak, Laura Morante et Nanni Moretti. Dans sa jeunesse au bord de la mer toscane, Marco Carrera rencontra la belle Luisa Lattes faisant naître un amour jamais consommé mais jamais éteint. Actuellement en salles en France, ce film italo-français (à 6,5% seulement) propose l’étude d’un personnage et de son entourage sur quatre générations des années 70 à nos jours au gré d’une narration non-linéaire illustrée par un montage complexe et de belles idées de mise en scène. « Le Colibri » superpose ainsi les temporalités, les tragédies et joies intimes ou familiales, recomposant de la sorte le puzzle de la vie. Cependant tout comme son oiseau-titre, le film fait quelque peu du surplace avec un récit un peu trop mécanique qui tire parfois en longueurs et peine à créer un réel attachement aux personnages dont le maquillage fonctionne plus ou moins bien sur la fin de vie. Un film intéressant qui aborde plusieurs sujets mais ne nous marque pas.

With this adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sandro Veronesi (2020 Strega Prize), Francesca Archibugi (A Question of the Heart) directs a sentimental epic starring Pierfrancesco Favino, Bérénice Bejo, Kasia Smutniak, Laura Morante and Nanni Moretti. In his youth by the Tuscan seaside, Marco Carrera met the beautiful Luisa Lattes, sparking a love that was never fulfilled but never faded. Currently in theaters in France, this Italian-French (French by only 6.5% of production) movie offers a study of a character and his entourage over four generations, from the 1970s to the present day, through a non-linear narrative illustrated by an intricate editing style and some beautiful staging ideas. “The Hummingbird” thus overlaps temporalities, intimate and family tragedies, thereby putting the puzzle of life back together. However, like its title bird, the film stalls a little, with a story that’s a bit too clockwork, sometimes running long, and struggling to build a real bond with the characters, whose make-up works to varying degrees towards the end of their lives. An interesting film that tackles a number of subjects, but fails to really hit home.
Con questo adattamento dell’eponimo romanzo di Sandro Veronesi (Premio Strega del 2020), Francesca Archibugi (regista di Questione di cuore) realizza un affresco sentimentale diretto da Pierfrancesco Favino insieme a Bérénice Bejo, Kasia Smutniak, Laura Morante e Nanni Moretti. Nella sua gioventù sul litorale toscano, Marco Carrera incontra la bella Luisa Lattes; nasce allora un amore mai consumato però mai spento. Attualmente in programmazione nelle sale francesi, questo film italo-francese (infatti al 6.5% francese) propone lo studio di un protagonista e del suo entourage durante quattro generazioni dagli anni ’70 ad oggi con una non lineare narrazione illustrata da un montaggio complesso e belle idee registiche. « Il colibrì » sovrappone temporalità, tragedie e gioie tanto intime quanto familiari; ricompone così il puzzle della vita. Nondimeno, come il suo uccello-titolo, il film cammina poco, con una trama leggermente troppo meccanica che a volte pare lunga e non riesce a creare un reale attaccamento per i personaggi, il cui trucco funziona più o meno bene sulla fine di vita. Un film interessante che tratta di diversi argomenti, ma che non colpisce.
