Un bon mais classique thriller d’action.
Le Second Maître John Kelly des Navy SEALs participe à une opération de la CIA à Alep. Trois mois plus tard, les membres de son équipe sont éliminés, sa famille est attaquée et les tueurs le blessent gravement. John ne cherche alors plus qu’une chose : un nom, celui du commanditaire. Rien ni ses blessures, ni la prison, ni l’armée ne pourra alors l’arrêter … Mais c’était sans compter l’envergure du complot dans lequel il se retrouve être un pion, qui va l’obliger à changer de stratégie …
Nouveau volet de l’œuvre de Tom Clancy (les romans Jack Ryan & Rainbow Six, les jeux Ghost Recon & The Division etc.), ce film produit par Paramount et Skydance et distribué par Amazon tout comme la série « Jack Ryan », met en scène un thriller politique d’action aux airs de nouvelle guerre froide qui fonctionne bien. Si le film réalisé par Stefano Sollima (La guerre des cartels), bascule vite dans le revenge-movie et ne surprend guère sur la complexité de son complot, les motivations du méchant sont cependant logiques et compréhensibles dans le contexte actuel.
Pour la première fois producteur, Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther) s’avère très convaincant dans un rôle tout en intensité, mâchoire serrée, déterminé et au meilleur de sa forme physique. Mais l’acteur principal est également accompagné par une bonne équipe avec Jamie Bell, Guy Pearce et Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) qui incarne Karen Greer. Ecrit par Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Comancheria et dont le prochain film débarque en salles le 24 mai), l’intrigue et le complot sont bien ancrés dans le réalisme autant dans les situations d’espionnage que dans les scènes militaires. Si le film est très différent du roman original, il est néanmoins, en cela, une bonne adaptation d’un Tom Clancy.
Mais « Sans aucun remords » s’avère surtout être une origin-story du célèbre personnage John Clark (déjà joué par Willem Dafoe et Liev Shrieber dans les films de la saga Jack Ryan) ouvrant donc potentiellement la voie à une nouvelle saga d’action-thriller avec sa scène post-générique. Mais contrairement à son compère Ryan, Clarke sera clairement plus orienté action !
Si cela se réalise, soyez sûrs que je suis totalement partant !

A good but traditional action thriller.
Navy SEAL Senior Chief John Kelly is involved in a CIA operation in Aleppo. Three months later, his team members are killed, his family is attacked and the killers severely wound him. John is now looking for only one thing: a name, that of the instigator. Nothing, neither his wounds, nor the prison, nor the army will be able to stop him … But it was not counting the scope of the plot in which he finds himself a pawn in, which will force him to change his strategy …
Latest addition to Tom Clancy’s collection (the Jack Ryan & Rainbow Six novels, the Ghost Recon & The Division games, etc.), this film produced by Paramount and Skydance and distributed by Amazon like the “Jack Ryan” series, stages a political-action thriller with a new Cold War flavor that works well. If the film, directed by Stefano Sollima (Day of the soldado), quickly turns into a revenge-movie and doesn’t surprise us with the complexity of its plot, the motivations of the villain are however logical and understandable in the current context.
First time producer, Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther) proves to be very convincing in a role all in intensity, determined, jaw clenched and at the best of his physical shape. But the lead actor is also supported by a good team with Jamie Bell, Guy Pearce and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) who plays Karen Greer. Written by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Comancheria and whose next film opens in theaters on May 14), the plot and conspiracy are well grounded in realism in both the espionage situations and the military scenes. If the film is very different from the original novel, it is nevertheless, in that respect, a good adaptation of a Tom Clancy.
But « Without Remorse » is above all an origin-story of the famous character John Clark (already played by Willem Dafoe and Liev Shrieber in the Jack Ryan saga films), thus potentially opening the way to a new action-thriller saga with its post-credit scene. But unlike his fellow Ryan, Clarke will clearly be more action driven!
If it does happen, I’d be all in!
