Après avoir adapté « Jack Ryan » en série, Amazon Studios nous propose désormais une transition en série des aventures d’un autre célèbre Jack, le héros de Lee Child. Celui-ci avait déjà eu droit à deux adaptations sur grand écran sous les traits d’un Tom Cruise trop petit et pas suffisamment imposant pour incarner un personnage dont l’impressionnante carrure est un trait distinctif.
C’est donc Alan Ritchson (Smallville ; Titans) qui reprend le rôle-titre dans cette série disponible sur la plateforme SVOD du géant américain depuis vendredi dernier. Ritchson est en effet beaucoup plus ressemblant que Cruise et s’est attaché à incarner le personnage le plus fidèlement possible en lisant l’ensemble des 26 romans de la saga littéraire trouvant un juste équilibre entre violence stoïque, intelligence et sens de l’humour.
Créée par Nick Santora, scénariste de la série « les Soprano », cette nouvelle adaptation des aventures de l’ex officier MP américain est à l’image de son héros : brutale mais aussi intelligente, attentionnée et méticuleuse ! La série est en cela très fidèle aux romans. Elle reprend l’intrigue du premier tome « Du fond de l’abîme » tout en intégrant des éléments et traits de personnages issus d’autres opus pour permettre aux spectateurs d’entrer facilement dans ce monde. Reacher y est arrêté à l’entrée d’une petite ville de Géorgie pour un crime qu’il n’a pas commis, un banquier avoue un crime qu’il n’a pas commis et Joe le frère de Jack refait surface après des années !
Comme toujours chez Lee Child, l’enquête est excellente et les nombreux retournements de situation sont logiques pour l’ensemble des personnages. Alan Ritchson incarne très bien ce mystérieux personnage qui s’impose sans un mot par son physique, ne craint pas pour sa vie et est toujours en observation pour avoir un coup d’avance. La construction de la série est également bien gérée en huit épisodes au rythme soutenu et avec d’intrigants cliffhangers à chaque fin d’épisode. « REACHER » est donc une très bonne adaptation et une très bonne série.
Si les deux premiers opus sur grand écran sonnaient plus Hollywood, ils n’en étaient pas moins de bonnes adaptations également en particulier le premier film avec l’excellente réalisation de Christopher McQuarrie. On ne peut pas vraiment dire que la série est ainsi meilleure ou plus faible que les films Jack Reacher, c’est simplement un autre style d’adaptation moins cinématique et plus fidèle aux romans. Le format série fonctionne en revanche très bien et une chose est sûre si la saison 2 continue d’adapter l’œuvre de Lee Child avec ce niveau de qualité, ce sera pleinement satisfaisant !
After adapting “Jack Ryan” into a series, Amazon Studios now offers us a series transition of the adventures of another famous Jack, Lee Child’s iconic hero. This one had already had two adaptations on the big screen with a Tom Cruise too small and not imposing enough to play a character whose impressive bulk is a distinctive feature.
It is therefore Alan Ritchson (Smallville; Titans) who takes over the title role in this series available on the SVOD platform of the American giant since last Friday. Ritchson is indeed much more similar than Cruise and aimed to embody the character as faithfully as possible by reading all 26 novels of the literary saga, finding the right balance between stoic violence, intelligence and sense of humor.
Created by Nick Santora, screenwriter of the series “The Sopranos”, this new adaptation of the adventures of the former American MP officer is in line with its protagonist: brutal but also smart, careful and meticulous! The series is thus very faithful to the novels. It takes up the plot of the first book “Killing Floor” while introducing elements and character traits from other books to allow the audience to step easily into this world. Reacher is arrested in a small Georgia town for a crime he didn’t commit, a banker confesses to a crime he didn’t commit and Jack’s brother Joe reappears after many years!
As always with Lee Child, the investigation is excellent and the many twists and turns make sense for all the characters. Alan Ritchson plays this mysterious character very well who imposes himself without a word by his physicality, does not fear for his life and is always observing to be one step ahead. The construction of the series is also well managed in eight episodes with a steady pace and intriguing cliffhangers at the end of each episode. “REACHER” is therefore a very good adaptation and a very good series.
If the first two big screen installments looked more Hollywood, they were also good adaptations, especially the first film with Christopher McQuarrie’s brilliant direction. So, we can’t really say that the series is better or weaker than the Jack Reacher movies, it’s just another style of adaptation less cinematic and more faithful to the novels. The series format works very well though and one thing is sure if season 2 continues to adapt Lee Child’s work with this level of quality, it will be thoroughly fulfilling!
