Deux astronomes (Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence) font une découverte stupéfiante : une comète assez large pour endommager irrémédiablement notre planète se dirige droit sur nous ! Mais problème, personne ne semble vraiment s’en soucier. Ils s’embarquent alors dans une course contre la montre pour avertir la population mais se heurtent à une presse résolument positive, un système politique résolument opportuniste et une société globalement aveugle.
Cette année pour Noël, Netflix nous a offert le nouveau film d’Adam McKay qui continue sa satire de l’Amérique et plus généralement de la société actuelle après « The Big Short » et « Vice ». Mais ses débuts dans la plus pure comédie se font également ressentir dans cette farce grinçante de notre quotidien. C’est en effet l’un des films les plus drôle de l’année, en particulier dans sa première partie, tout en étant également un film très riche traitant plusieurs thèmes, de l’inaction politique au poids sans cesse accru des GAFAM, en passant par le désastre de l’Info-spectacle. « Don’t look up : Déni cosmique » mélange ainsi les genres du film d’anticipation au film catastrophe en passant par la comédie dramatique s’aventurant jusqu’à l’absurde.
Mais ce film est avant tout un cri d’alarme retentissant ! Son message subliminal sur le réchauffement climatique est fort et nous exhorte à agir sur le champ. Si l’histoire semble absurde, elle pourrait tout à fait paraître crédible dans le fond et c’est cela la force de cette satire. Elle dépeint notre réalité actuelle dans un style très caricatural nous mettant donc face au fait accompli que nous vivons d’ores et déjà dans un monde totalement fou. La logique ne fait plus sens, la science n’est plus l’aboutissement de l’humain, et on ne semble plus attirer que par notre propre perte.
Le casting réuni pour l’occasion (Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill …) est très impressionnant et incarne parfaitement les différents personnages sans exception. Si ce n’est un petit ralentissement de rythme au milieu autour du personnage de Timothée Chalamet, « Don’t look up » s’impose comme un très bon film et l’un des plus important de l’année.

They then start a race against time to warn the population but face a resolutely positive press, a resolutely pragmatic political system and a globally blind society.
This year for Christmas, Netflix gifted us with the new film from Adam McKay who keeps on satirizing America and more generally the current society after « The Big Short » and « Vice ». But his debut in the realm of comedy is also reflected in this wry farce of our daily lives. It is indeed one of the funniest films of the year, especially in its first part, while also being a very rich film dealing with several themes, from political inaction to the ever-increasing power of GAFAM, as well as the disaster of the Infotainment. « Don’t look up » thus blends the genres of anticipation film, disaster film and dramatic comedy venturing all the way to the absurd.
But above all, this film is a resounding warning cry! Its underlying message about global warming is strong and urges us to act now. If the story seems absurd, it could actually seem credible at its core and that is the strength of this satire. It depicts our current reality in a very caricatural style, therefore confronting us with the absolute fact that we are already living in a totally crazy world. Logic no longer makes sense, science is no longer the culmination of the human being, and we seem to be drawn only by our own loss.
The cast assembled for the occasion (Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill …) is very impressive and perfectly embodies the different characters with no exception. Except for a small slowdown in the middle regarding Timothée Chalamet’s character, « Don’t look up » is a very good film and certainly one of the most important of the year.
