Le nouvel opus de la saga Thor et plus largement de l’univers Marvel sort demain avec Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok ; Jojo Rabbit) de retour aux commandes. Chris Hemsworth et Tessa Thompson reprennent leur rôle du Dieu du tonnerre et de King Valkyrie avec le retour de Natalie Portman dans le rôle de Jane alias Mighty Thor dorénavant. Russell Crowe et Christian Bale font maintenant aussi partie de l’aventure en interprétant Zeus et Gorr le boucher des Dieux.
Thor avait dit adieu à l’ambiance Shakespeare de Kenneth Branagh avec « Ragnarok », l’un des films les plus appréciés du MCU, l’ancrant véritablement dans le style Taika Waititi : comique et dramatique étaient réunis dans une aventure cosmique haute en couleur. « Thor : Love & Thunder » continue donc dans cette direction en s’aventurant encore plus dans le ridicule que dans le précédent opus mais équilibre moins le comique et le dramatique en allant plus loin dans chacun des deux registres. Dans l’ensemble, c’est une aventure agréable, drôle et épique, soit une bonne formule Marvel sans être réellement innovante, et devrait donc vous satisfaire si vous appréciez ce Thor loufoque.
Néanmoins, ce quatrième opus Thor se retrouve être l’antépénultième moins bien noté aux USA des 29 films du MCU, seulement devant « Thor 2 » et « les Éternels », et donc bien loin derrière le succès de « Ragnarok » (4e). Trois intrigues sont en effet développées alors qu’elles auraient peut-être pu être séparées, ni le prologue ni la conclusion ne sont vraiment convaincants, et ni l’introduction de Gorr le boucher ni celle de Mighty Thor ne sont vraiment développées. Mais l’alchimie entre Thor et Jane fonctionne enfin très bien, Christian Bale infuse toute sa frayeur dans son personnage, et l’énergie Guns N’Roses se marie parfaitement au ton du film. A noter également le très bon étalonnage dans le monde des ténèbres contrastant fortement avec l’univers très coloré des Dieux.
Globalement c’est donc un bon divertissement et un meilleur moment que le récent « Doctor Strange 2 » pour moi !

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson reprise their roles as the God of Thunder and King Valkyrie with the return of Natalie Portman as Jane aka Mighty Thor from now on. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are now joining the fun as Zeus and Gorr the God Butcher.
Thor farewelled Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespearean vibe with “Ragnarok”, one of the MCU’s most beloved films, truly grounding him in the Taika Waititi style: comedy and drama were combined in a colorful cosmic adventure. “Thor: Love & Thunder” follows this path, venturing even more into the ridiculous than in the previous film, but balances the comedy and drama less, going further in both directions. Overall, it’s an enjoyable, funny and epic adventure, a good Marvel formula without being really original, and should therefore delight you if you like this wacky Thor.
Nevertheless, this fourth Thor movie is the antepenultimate lowest rated in the US among the 29 MCU movies, only ahead of “Thor 2” and “Eternals”, and therefore far behind the success of “Ragnarok” (4th). Three storylines are indeed developed when they could perhaps have been split, neither the prologue nor the conclusion is really convincing, and neither the introduction of Gorr the Butcher nor Mighty Thor’s is really fleshed out. But the chemistry between Thor and Jane finally works very well, Christian Bale infuses all his creepiness into his character, and the Guns N’Roses energy fits the tone of the film perfectly. Also of note is the very good color grading in the world of darkness strongly contrasting with the very colorful universe of the Gods.
Overall, it’s a good entertainment and a better time than the recent “Doctor Strange 2” for me!
