Nous retrouvons notre araignée du quartier juste après les événements de « Far From Home » ayant vu l’inconditionnel J. Jonah Jameson révéler l’identité de Spider-Man à la suite de son affrontement avec Mystério. La vie de Peter, M.J. et Ned est alors profondément chamboulée entre la célébrité à outrance et les accusations meurtrières poussant Peter à demander l’aide de son coéquipier Avenger, Dr. Strange. Mais souhaitant trop compliquer le sort magique, ils provoquent l’ouverture du multivers attirant de nombreuses connaissances de Spider-Man dans cet univers.
Ce 27e film de la saga vient clôturer la trilogie Spider-Man codéveloppée par Marvel et Sony au sein du MCU et réussit le tour de force d’être à la hauteur de l’engouement des fans. C’est en effet un film très réussi à la fois divertissant avec beaucoup d’humour mais aussi émouvant. Bien évidemment, il intègre de nombreuses surprises et retours de personnages d’autres univers provoquant les acclamations du public. S’il y a beaucoup de fan service, il est rattaché à l’intrigue permettant ainsi à l’ensemble de sembler naturel et non forcé. Mais attention toutes les nouvelles inclusions dans le MCU faites par ce film ne sont pas toutes dues au multivers provoqué par le sort raté de Strange ce qui promet de belles choses pour la suite …
La force de « No Way Home » réside donc dans sa capacité à tisser une intrigue centrée sur Peter et ses proches. Chaque personnage – y compris les méchants – ont un arc narratif plus ou moins développé à l’exception de Dr. Strange qui est essentiel à l’intrigue mais n’est finalement qu’un outil scénaristique. Enfin détaché de l’ombre de Tony Stark, Peter Parker prend réellement son envol dans ce film pour y assumer de grandes responsabilités et permettant à Tom Holland de faire preuve d’une plus grande palette de jeu aux côtés d’un vaste casting au top.
Malgré quelques facilités scénaristiques et s’il est vrai que le film aurait pu être un peu plus ambitieux encore, « No Way Home » étend le cadre et les enjeux de la franchise sans perdre de vue son humour et son cœur en faisant donc un excellent film de super-héros.

Our friendly neighborhood spider is back right after the events of “Far From Home” which saw the unapologetic J. Jonah Jameson reveal Spider-Man’s identity following his confrontation with Mysterio. Peter, M.J. and Ned’s lives are then thrown into disarray between excessive fame and murderous accusations, prompting Peter to seek the help of his fellow Avenger, Dr. Strange. But wishing to overcomplicate the magic spell, they trigger the multiverse to open, drawing many of Spider-Man’s acquaintances into this universe.
This 27th film of the saga closes the Spider-Man trilogy co-developed by Marvel and Sony within the MCU and succeeds in living up to the fans’ expectations. It is indeed a very accomplished film that is both entertaining with a lot of humor but also moving. Of course, it features many surprises and characters returning from other universes, earning cheers from the audience. If there is a lot of fan service, it is tied to the plot allowing the story to feel natural and not forced. But beware that not all of the new additions to the MCU made by this film are due to the multiverse caused by Strange’s failed spell, promising great things for the future…
The strength of “No Way Home” then lies in its ability to weave a plot centered on Peter and his loved ones. Each character – including the villains – have a more or less developed narrative arc, except for Dr. Strange who is essential to the plot but is only a plot device. Finally free of Tony Stark’s shadow, Peter Parker really comes into his own in this film, taking on great responsibilities and allowing Tom Holland to bring out a greater range of acting alongside a wide, top-notch cast.
Despite a few plot holes and while it is true that the film could have been a little more ambitious, “No Way Home” expands the scope and stakes of the franchise without losing sight of its humor and heart, making it an excellent superhero film.
