“Je suis rancunier !”
Un convoyeur de fonds récemment engagé et surnommé H surprend ses collègues par son attitude et sa précision face à un braquage. Il continue par la suite à les impressionner au point qu’ils se demandent tous qui il peut bien être réellement. Son personnage, ses motivations et ses ennemis apparaissent progressivement plus clairs révélant un profond désir de vengeance !
Nouvelle collaboration de Guy Ritchie (The Gentleman ; Code U.N.C.L.E.) avec Jason Statham (Le Transporteur) après « Snatch » sorti en 2000, « Un homme en colère » se présente au départ comme un remake du film français « Le Convoyeur » (2004) avec Albert Dupontel et Jean Dujardin. Mais le film américain se distingue bien vite de son cousin français avec un scénario déviant rapidement et révélant un thriller d’action entre revenge-movie et film à mystère. La chronologie est une nouvelle fois chamboulée dans les films de Ritchie, et permet ici d’étoffer une intrigue qui serait sinon très simple et caricaturale en créant des retournements de situation et en introduisant plusieurs points de vue enrichissant les personnages et les laissant respirer. Si le film démarre donc sur des bases mystérieuses, il humanise ensuite ses personnages, y compris les méchants de l’histoire, révélant ainsi les visages derrière les masques et ajoutant donc une profondeur supplémentaire au film.
Il n’en reste pas moins que le principal focus du film, reste ses scènes d’action pure très immersives et particulièrement réussies dans un retour aux sources pour Ritchie : action sombre, violence et humour. Le tout est très bien porté par Statham accompagné notamment de Holt McCallany, Scott Eastwood et des quelques apparitions non créditées d’Andy Garcia.

“I do bear a grudge!”
A newly hired guard of a cash truck company nicknamed H surprises his colleagues with his behavior and accuracy in the face of a heist. He subsequently continues to impress them to the point that they all wonder who he really is. His character, his motivations and his enemies gradually become clearer revealing a deep hunger for revenge!
New collaboration of Guy Ritchie (The Gentleman; The man from U.N.C.L.E.) with Jason Statham (The Transporter) after “Snatch” released in 2000, “Wrath of Man” is initially set up as a remake of the French movie “Le Convoyeur” (2004) with Albert Dupontel and Jean Dujardin. But the American film quickly differs from its French cousin with a scenario that quickly moves away and reveals an action thriller between revenge-movie and mystery film. The chronology is once again turned upside down in Ritchie’s films, and allows here to flesh out a plot that would otherwise be very simple and cartoonish by creating twists and turns and introducing several points of view enriching the characters and letting them breathe. If the film starts on a mysterious premise, it then humanizes its characters, including the villains of the story, thus revealing the faces behind the masks and adding an additional depth to the film.
Nevertheless, the main focus of the film remains its pure action scenes, which are very immersive and particularly well done in a return to Ritchie’s roots: dark action, violence and humor. Statham delivers a great performance, accompanied by Holt McCallany, Scott Eastwood and a few uncredited appearances by Andy Garcia.
