Été 1998, après la guerre contre les soviétiques puis la guerre civile opposant les différents groupes moudjahidines, Kaboul est en ruines et occupée par les Talibans. La Charia instaurée, des règles extrêmement strictes sont appliquées et c’est dans ce contexte particulièrement difficile que l’intrigue des « Hirondelles de Kaboul » s’ouvre. Adapté du roman de Yasmina Khadra paru en 2002, ce film réalisé par l’actrice et réalisatrice Zabou Breitman et la graphiste Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec, suit un couple de jeunes afghans et un gardien de prison forcé de travailler avec les Talibans. Terriblement d’actualité avec leur potentiel retour au pays, ce film s’impose comme un acte de résistance contre l’obscurantisme et l’intégrisme tout en restant une histoire d’amour sincère. Les voix de Simon Abkarian, Zita Hanrot, Swann Arlaud et Hiam Abbass s’ajoutent à la beauté des dessins et de la bande son pour créer ce récit terriblement émouvant. « Aucun rayon de soleil ne résiste à la nuit ! ».

In summer 1998, after the war against the Soviets and the civil war between the various Mujahideen groups, Kabul was in ruins and occupied by the Taliban. With the Sharia law in effect, extremely strict rules are applied and it is in this particularly harsh context that the plot of the « The Swallows of Kabul » is set up. Adapted from Yasmina Khadra’s 2002 novel, this film, directed by actress and director Zabou Breitman and graphic designer Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec, follows a young Afghan couple and a prison guard forced to work with the Taliban. Terribly topical with their potential return to Afghanistan, this film stands out as an act of resistance against obscurantism and fundamentalism while remaining a genuine love story. The voices of Simon Abkarian, Zita Hanrot, Swann Arlaud and Hiam Abbass add to the beauty of the drawings and soundtrack to create this terribly moving story. « No sunlight can resist the night! ».
