Un titre polys\u00e9mique \u00e0 l\u2019image du film et de la situation que vont vivre ses protagonistes \u2026 \u2018au bord de la folie\u2019. \u00ab\u00a0Border Line\u00a0\u00bb met donc en sc\u00e8ne un couple d\u2019Espagnols d\u00e9barquant \u00e0 New York pour y commencer une nouvelle vie de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019Atlantique au pays de la libert\u00e9 o\u00f9 il est permis de tout esp\u00e9rer\u00a0!<\/p><p>Il est alors facile de s\u2019identifier \u00e0 ces personnages qui comme nous tous sont souriants, en sueur et s\u00e9rieux \u2013 tout \u00e0 la fois \u2013 face au douanier au moment de pr\u00e9senter le passeport. On attend in\u00e9vitablement qu\u2019il nous le rende avec un \u201cBienvenue aux \u00c9tats-Unis\u201d plut\u00f4t que d\u2019entendre \u201cSuivez-moi, s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet\u201d, cette invitation courtoise mais ferme qui peut faire tr\u00e9bucher nos vies. Commencent alors les probl\u00e8mes avec une s\u00e9rie d\u2019interrogatoires de plus en plus intrusifs et l\u2019\u00e9mergence d\u2019une m\u00e9fiance mutuelle fissurant progressivement le couple. Ce qui n\u2019\u00e9tait qu\u2019un point de d\u00e9part (tr\u00e8s) anodin, une situation somme toute banale, va vite se transformer en cauchemar dans ce thriller parano\u00efaque particuli\u00e8rement bien structur\u00e9, mis en sc\u00e8ne, et au d\u00e9nouement explosif.<\/p><p>\u00c9crit et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par le duo Alejandro Rojas (monteur) et Juan Sebasti\u00e1n V\u00e1squez (directeur de la photographie), \u00ab\u00a0Border Line\u00a0\u00bb est le premier film de ce duo de cin\u00e9astes v\u00e9n\u00e9zu\u00e9liens vivant en Espagne. Film multilingue (espagnol, catalan, anglais) tourn\u00e9 en seulement 17 jours pour une dur\u00e9e totale d\u20191h15, c\u2019est un r\u00e9cit court au rythme soutenu, en essence tr\u00e8s simple, et aussi minimaliste qu\u2019haletant port\u00e9 par un duo tr\u00e8s juste et naturel avec Bruna Cus\u00ed (\u00c9t\u00e9 93) &amp; Alberto Ammann (Narcos) sans oublier l\u2019autre actrice cl\u00e9 Laura G\u00f3mez au personnage tr\u00e8s all\u00e9gorique.<\/p><p>Avec une grande \u00e9conomie de moyens, le duo de cin\u00e9astes r\u00e9ussit un excellent thriller gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un huis-clos anxiog\u00e8ne et des choix de mise en sc\u00e8ne cr\u00e9ant une certaine claustrophobie. Leur film repose ainsi sur une (quasi) unit\u00e9 de temps et de lieu cr\u00e9ant d\u2019une part un rythme synchrone entre protagonistes et spectateurs, et d\u2019autre part des d\u00e9cors \u00e9touffants o\u00f9 il n\u2019y a gu\u00e8re d\u2019issue. Il n\u2019y a ainsi aucune sc\u00e8ne d\u2019ext\u00e9rieur (m\u00eame dans le taxi, c\u2019est toujours film\u00e9 depuis l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du v\u00e9hicule), seulement quelques rares d\u00e9cors d\u00e9vitalis\u00e9s o\u00f9 travaillent des employ\u00e9s d\u00e9shumanis\u00e9s. Les personnages passent ainsi d\u2019une banquette \u00e0 une file d\u2019attente en passant par des bureaux impersonnels et des salles d\u2019attente silencieuses, bref que des non-lieux (Marc Aug\u00e9). Ils y sont film\u00e9s dans un cadrage souvent resserr\u00e9 semblant les emprisonner et sont perturb\u00e9s par les indications vagues des employ\u00e9s ou les rares bruits environnants (beau travail sur le son, sans aucune musique) participant \u00e0 leur malaise croissant qui s\u2019av\u00e8re contagieux pour les spectateurs.<\/p><p>C\u2019est donc un quasi huis-clos tr\u00e8s travaill\u00e9 cr\u00e9ant un suspense saisissant dans ce dialogue de sourds entre une administration et ses candidats \u00e0 \u2018l\u2019American Dream\u2019. Fort d\u2019une ironie acerbe, \u00ab\u00a0Border Line\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9veloppe une m\u00e9canique implacable qui tient en haleine. C\u2019est un film court, tendu, et dr\u00f4le. This polysemous title mirrors the film and the situation in which its protagonists find themselves &#8230; \u2018bordering on madness\u2019. \u201cUpon Entry\u201d thus features a Spanish couple landing in New York to start a new life on the other side of the Atlantic in the land of freedom, where you can hope for anything!<\/p><p>This makes it easy to identify with these characters who, like the rest of us, are smiling, sweating and serious \u2013 all at the same time \u2013 as they face the customs officer presenting their passport. We unavoidably wait for him to hand it back to us with a \u00ab\u00a0Welcome to the United States\u00a0\u00bb rather than hearing \u00ab\u00a0Follow me, please\u00a0\u00bb, that polite but strong invitation that can throw our lives off course. Then the troubles begin, with a series of increasingly intrusive interrogations and the rise of mutual distrust gradually tearing the couple apart. What was a (very) harmless starting point, an ordinary situation, soon turns into a nightmare in this paranoid thriller, which is particularly well-structured and staged, with a powerful ending.<\/p><p>Written and directed by the pair Alejandro Rojas (editor) and Juan Sebasti\u00e1n V\u00e1squez (director of photography), \u201cUpon Entry\u201d is the first feature by this Venezuelan filmmaking duo living in Spain. This multilingual film (Spanish, Catalan, English), shot in just only 17 days for a total running time of 75 minutes, is a short, fast-paced narrative, in essence very simple, and as minimalist as it is thrilling. It stars Bruna Cus\u00ed (Summer 1993) &amp; Alberto Ammann (Narcos) as a very fitting and authentic couple, along with the other key actress, Laura G\u00f3mez, who plays a very allegorical part.<\/p><p>With a minimum of resources, the filmmaking duo pull off an excellent thriller thanks to an anxiety-inducing enclosed space and staging choices that generate a sense of claustrophobia. Their film is built upon an (almost) unity of time and place, creating a synchronous flow between protagonists and viewers, as well as suffocating settings with virtually no escape. There are no exterior scenes (even in the cab, which is always filmed from the inside of the car), just a few devitalized sets where dehumanized employees work. The characters therefore move from a seat to a queue, passing through impersonal offices and silent waiting rooms &#8211; in other words, only non-places (Marc Aug\u00e9). They are shot in an often tight frame that seems to imprison them, and are distracted by the vague indications of employees or the rare surrounding noises (beautiful work on the sound, without any music), adding to their growing unease, which is contagious for the spectators.<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s an elaborate, almost closed-door situation, creating a gripping suspense in this absurd dialogue between an administration and its applicants for the \u2018American Dream\u2019. With its biting irony, \u201cUpon Entry\u201d delivers a relentless process that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It&rsquo;s short, tense and funny. A real gem!<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ESPA\u00d1OL<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Literalmente, el t\u00edtulo franc\u00e9s de este thriller psicol\u00f3gico significa a la vez \u00ab\u00a0l\u00ednea de frontera\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 el espacio geogr\u00e1fico y pol\u00edtico, la esclusa, que precede a la entrada en un nuevo pa\u00eds \u2013 y tambi\u00e9n describe un trastorno de la personalidad que fluct\u00faa entre la psicosis y la neurosis. Es un t\u00edtulo polis\u00e9mico que refleja la pel\u00edcula y la situaci\u00f3n en la que se encuentran sus protagonistas&#8230; &lsquo; en la frontera de la locura&rsquo;. Por lo tanto \u201cLa Llegada\u201d cuenta la historia de una pareja espa\u00f1ola que llega a Nueva York para empezar una nueva vida al otro lado del Atl\u00e1ntico, en el pa\u00eds de la libertad, \u00a1donde se puede aspirar a todo!<\/p><p>Es f\u00e1cil identificarse con estos personajes que, como el resto de nosotros, sonr\u00eden, transpiran y se muestran serios \u2013 todo al mismo tiempo \u2013 cuando se enfrentan al funcionario de aduanas presentando su pasaporte. Inevitablemente, esperamos a que nos lo devuelva con un \u00ab\u00a0Bienvenido a los Estados Unidos\u00a0\u00bb antes que o\u00edr \u00ab\u00a0S\u00edgame, por favor\u00a0\u00bb, esa cort\u00e9s pero firme invitaci\u00f3n que puede hacernos fracasar la vida. Entonces surgen los problemas, con una sucesi\u00f3n de interrogatorios cada vez m\u00e1s indiscretos y la aparici\u00f3n de una desconfianza mutua que va resquebrajando poco a poco a la pareja. Lo que era un punto de partida (muy) inocuo, una situaci\u00f3n bastante banal, pronto se convierte en una pesadilla en este thriller paranoico, muy bien construido y dirigido, con un final explosivo.<\/p><p>Escrita y dirigida por el t\u00e1ndem Alejandro Rojas (montador) y Juan Sebasti\u00e1n V\u00e1squez (director de fotograf\u00eda), \u201cLa Llegada\u201d es la primera pel\u00edcula de este d\u00fao de realizadores venezolanos afincados en Espa\u00f1a. Una pel\u00edcula multiling\u00fce (castellano, catal\u00e1n, ingl\u00e9s) rodada en tan s\u00f3lo 17 d\u00edas para una metraje total de 75 minutos, es una historia corta y de ritmo trepidante, muy simple esencialmente, y tan minimalista como sobrecogedora, interpretada por un d\u00fao muy acertado y natural con Bruna Cus\u00ed (Verano 1993) y Alberto Ammann (Narcos), sin olvidar a la otra actriz clave, Laura G\u00f3mez, que interpreta un personaje muy aleg\u00f3rico.<\/p><p>Con una gran econom\u00eda de medios, los realizadores logran un excelente thriller gracias a un lugar cerrado angustioso y a unas decisiones de direcci\u00f3n que crean un clima claustrof\u00f3bico. Su pel\u00edcula se basa en una (casi) unidad de tiempo y lugar, creando un ritmo sincr\u00f3nico entre los protagonistas y los espectadores, as\u00ed como decorados asfixiantes en los que apenas hay salida. No hay escenas exteriores (ni siquiera en el taxi, que siempre se filma desde el interior del veh\u00edculo), s\u00f3lo algunos decorados desvitalizados donde trabajan empleados deshumanizados. Los personajes pasan de un asiento a una cola, atraviesan oficinas impersonales y salones silenciosos, es decir, solo no-lugares (Marc Aug\u00e9). Est\u00e1n filmados en encuadres a menudo estrechos, que parecen aprisionarlos, y se ven perturbados por las indicaciones imprecisas de los empleados o los escasos ruidos circundantes (buen trabajo del sonido, sin m\u00fasica), que contribuyen a su creciente malestar, contagioso para los espectadores.<\/p><p>Es un metraje elaborado, casi a c\u00e1mara, que crea un suspense apasionante en este di\u00e1logo absurdo entre una administraci\u00f3n y sus candidatos al \u00ab\u00a0sue\u00f1o americano\u00a0\u00bb. Con su acerada iron\u00eda, \u201cLa llegada\u201d desarrolla un mecanismo implacable que te mantiene al borde del asiento.
