Le B-17 \u00e9tait le bombardier lourd de l\u2019arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine utilis\u00e9 durant la seconde guerre mondiale abritant ses dix membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage qui nageaient au milieu de la pluie de flaks nazis. La 100<sup>e<\/sup> escadre \u2013 bas\u00e9e en Angleterre \u2013 et ses B-17, \u00e9taient ainsi au c\u0153ur des efforts de l\u2019arm\u00e9e de l\u2019air naissante pour tenir t\u00eate au III<sup>e<\/sup> Reich et pr\u00e9parer le terrain pour le d\u00e9barquement. Elle devint connue sous le nom de \u201cBloody Hundredth\u201d tant elle fut d\u00e9cim\u00e9e par ses sorties en plein jour sous le feu ennemi. Cette s\u00e9rie limit\u00e9e raconte son histoire\u00a0!<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s avoir suivi les parachutistes du d\u00e9barquement \u00e0 la capitulation dans \u00ab Band of Brothers \u00bb puis les marines dans l\u2019enfer des combats jusqu\u2019en Asie dans \u00ab The Pacific \u00bb, Tom Hanks et Steven Spielberg nous embarquent donc dans les ciels europ\u00e9ens pour d\u00e9crire avec minutie l\u2019histoire m\u00e9connue des bombardiers am\u00e9ricains. Vingt-trois ans apr\u00e8s avoir initi\u00e9 leur trilogie historique sur la seconde guerre mondiale sur <em>HBO<\/em>, le duo hollywoodien (assist\u00e9 de Gary Goetzman en showrunner) conclut leur triptyque cette fois sur <em>Apple TV+<\/em>. \u00ab\u00a0Band of Brothers\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9tait \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque un projet r\u00e9volutionnaire pour les s\u00e9ries TV de par son ampleur et son budget ($125M en 2001) et devint pr\u00e9curseur des superproductions TV. D\u00e9j\u00e0 engag\u00e9 sur des projets \u00e0 gros budget, <em>HBO<\/em> a cette fois d\u00e9clin\u00e9 la proposition, et c\u2019est donc <em>Apple TV+<\/em> qui h\u00e9rite du projet. La plateforme se positionne en effet depuis son lancement sur les s\u00e9ries de prestige et dispose de consid\u00e9rables r\u00e9serves financi\u00e8res pour lancer de gros projets et lui donner une image de marque. La cha\u00eene <em>HBO<\/em> et la plateforme <em>Apple TV+<\/em> devenant ainsi les deux garantes de qualit\u00e9 sur le march\u00e9 TV am\u00e9ricain. Il est s\u00fbr qu\u2019ils n\u2019ont clairement pas l\u00e9sin\u00e9 sur les moyens (avec un budget entre les $250M et $300M) pour nous offrir un ballet a\u00e9rien, r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9pisodes en \u00e9pisodes, \u00e0 couper le souffle. Son utilisation du StageCraft d\u2019<em>ILM<\/em> nous plonge dans l\u2019avion aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019\u00e9quipage au plus pr\u00e8s de l\u2019action. La reconstitution est saisissante, les sc\u00e8nes d\u2019action vertigineuses, la photographie magnifique et la r\u00e9alisation, entre autres, confi\u00e9e \u00e0 Cary Joji Fukanaga (Mourir peut attendre\u00a0; Beasts of No Nation\u00a0; True Detective S1) toujours tr\u00e8s soign\u00e9e. Avec les immenses pertes subies par la 100<sup>e<\/sup>, il pourrait \u00eatre difficile de s\u2019attacher aux personnages, mais il n\u2019en est rien gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un superbe casting compos\u00e9 notamment d\u2019Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Raff Law, Ncuti Gatwa ou encore Barry Keoghan (Saltburn ; Les Banshees d\u2019Inisherin). Au c\u0153ur de l\u2019action se trouve le duo ins\u00e9parable form\u00e9 par les Majors Egan &amp; Cleven. Le premier est fougueux, buveur, bagarreur et plein d\u2019une \u00e9nergie p\u00e9tillante quand le second plus introverti porte sur lui un charisme r\u00e9serv\u00e9 qui compl\u00e8te et temp\u00e8re son fr\u00e8re d\u2019armes. Jou\u00e9s respectivement par Callum Turner (Les Animaux Fantastiques ; The Boys in the Boat ; The Capture) et Austin Butler (Elvis ; Dune ; The Bikeriders), tous deux fantastiques, ils cr\u00e9ent une relation fraternelle touchante et captivante au gr\u00e9 de leurs bombardements cauchemardesques tant leurs missions sont synonymes d\u2019une loterie de la mort. On ne sait jamais combien reviendront \u2026<\/p><p>Cette d\u00e9monstration implacable de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de la guerre joue sur le destin des personnages jou\u00e9s par des acteurs plus ou moins connus. La s\u00e9rie rappelle ainsi le prix fort pay\u00e9 par toute une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration perdue \u00e0 la guerre ou revenue avec des blessures plus ou moins visibles. D\u00e9termin\u00e9e \u00e0 ne pas glorifier la guerre, elle est aussi \u00e9pique et palpitante qu\u2019elle est terrible et \u00e9prouvante. \u00c9pisodes apr\u00e8s \u00e9pisodes, elle parvient \u00e0 nous s\u00e9cher. Les fins d\u2019\u00e9pisodes sont fortes malgr\u00e9 le fait que la s\u00e9rie varie r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement de protagoniste (ce qui peut cr\u00e9er une certaine distance avec le spectateur), signe de la force du r\u00e9cit lui-m\u00eame. R\u00e9aliste et d\u00e9chirante, c\u2019est une le\u00e7on d\u2019histoire fascinante entre drame et action, et d\u00e9faites et victoires, qui ne perd jamais de vue son humanit\u00e9.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25631 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Si l\u2019on pourrait reprocher \u00e0 \u00ab Masters of the Air \u00bb un certain patriotisme US, une mise en valeur de la bravoure militaire, ou son ton h\u00e9ro\u00efque avec ses plans emphatiques sur les saluts, les regards vers l\u2019horizon ou encore les enfants contemplant le ciel ; cela reste coh\u00e9rent avec l\u2019intrigue et dans la continuit\u00e9 de la trilogie historique et militaire produite par le tandem Hanks\/Spielberg. Non, le principal d\u00e9faut de la s\u00e9rie, se trouve dans ses deux derniers \u00e9pisodes et en particulier dans leurs scenarii. La chronologie change brusquement pour inclure de nombreuses ellipses tout en pr\u00e9sentant de nouveaux personnages rapidement qui auront certes un r\u00f4le dans l\u2019intrigue mais seront une fois celui-ci pass\u00e9, compl\u00e8tement oubli\u00e9s par la s\u00e9rie qui les abandonne aussi vite qu\u2019elle les a introduits. Une autre relation entre deux personnages est \u00e9galement brusquement abandonn\u00e9e (alors certes, ne pas donner suite \u00e0 certaines histoires, est aussi une le\u00e7on de la guerre, mais sur un plan narratif \u00e7a laisse un vide). M\u00eame la relations des personnages principaux en p\u00e2tit avec une conclusion qui est loin de l\u2019impact \u00e9motionnel des \u00e9pisodes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, ce qui est bien dommage. Pourtant le dernier \u00e9pisode est une v\u00e9ritable prouesse technique avec une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de nouveaux d\u00e9cors, des sc\u00e8nes d\u2019action terrestres, et de tr\u00e8s nombreux figurants : c\u2019est un vrai film (1h30) de conclusion de la s\u00e9rie, et plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de ce triptyque historique. La fin de la s\u00e9rie n\u2019est pas rat\u00e9e, mais elle s\u2019av\u00e8re frustrante tant elle frappe in fine moins fort que les premiers \u00e9pisodes.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Masters of the Air\u00a0\u00bb reste n\u00e9anmoins une histoire vraie incroyablement racont\u00e9e qui force l\u2019admiration. Apr\u00e8s la terre et l\u2019eau, elle conclut logiquement dans les airs cette trilogie TV, et comme les deux volets pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, elle fait \u0153uvre de m\u00e9moire \u00e0 partir des souvenirs des derniers survivants. The B-17 was the U.S. Army&rsquo;s heavy bomber during the Second World War, sheltering its ten crew members as they sailed through the storm of Nazi flak. The 100<sup>th<\/sup> Bomb Group \u2013 based in England \u2013 and its B-17s were therefore pivotal to the emerging air force&rsquo;s efforts to stand up to the Third Reich and pave the way for D-Day. It became known as the \u00ab\u00a0Bloody Hundredth\u00a0\u00bb, as it was so decimated by its daylight runs under enemy fire. This limited series brings its story to life!<\/p><p>After following the airborne troops from D-Day to capitulation in \u201cBand of Brothers\u201d, then the Marines through the hell of combat all the way to Asia in \u201cThe Pacific\u201d, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg now take us to the skies of Europe to describe in detail the unsung history of American bombers. Twenty-three years after launching their WWII historical trilogy on <em>HBO<\/em>, the Hollywood duo (assisted by showrunner Gary Goetzman) conclude their triptych this time on <em>Apple TV+<\/em>. At the time, \u201cBand of Brothers\u201d was a revolutionary project for TV series in terms of its scale and budget ($125M in 2001), and became a precursor to TV super-productions. Already committed to big-budget projects, <em>HBO<\/em> turned down the offer this time, so <em>Apple TV+<\/em> took over the reins. Since its launch, the platform has focused on prestige series, and has considerable financial resources to develop major projects and build its brand image. The <em>HBO<\/em> channel and the <em>Apple TV+<\/em> platform are therefore becoming the two guarantees of quality on the American TV market. Clearly, they&rsquo;ve spared no expense (with a budget of between $250M to $300M) to bring us a breathtaking air ballet, with every episode. Some scenes from this chaos of the skies will stick with you!<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25635 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_906.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_906.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_906-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_906-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_906-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>It&rsquo;s clearly one of those spectacular series we&rsquo;d love to see on the big screen. Its use of <em>ILM<\/em>&lsquo;s StageCraft brings us into the plane alongside the crew, right up close to the action. The recreation is striking, the action scenes soaring, the photography stunning and the direction handled, among others, by Cary Joji Fukanaga (No Time to Die; Beasts of No Nation; True Detective S1) always highly sophisticated. With the tremendous losses suffered by the 100th, it could be difficult to get attached to the characters, but this is actually quite the opposite, thanks to a great cast including Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Raff Law, Ncuti Gatwa and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn; The Banshees of Inisherin). At the heart of the action is the unbreakable duo of Majors Egan &amp; Cleven. The former is fiery, hard-drinking, brawling and full of sparkling energy, while the latter, more introverted, carries a reserved charisma that complements and tempers his brother-in-arms. Played respectively by Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts; The Boys in the Boat; The Capture) and Austin Butler (Elvis; Dune; The Bikeriders), both of whom are fantastic, they create a touching and captivating brotherly bond as their nightmarish bombings become a death lottery. You never know how many will come back&#8230;<\/p><p>This relentless demonstration of the reality of war hinges on the fate of the characters played by actors of varying degrees of renown. The series is a reminder of the heavy cost paid by an entire generation lost in war or returning with more or less visible wounds. Committed to not glorifying war, it is as epic and thrilling as it is terrible and harrowing. Episode after episode, it manages to hit hard. The endings of the episodes are strong, despite the fact that the series regularly shifts protagonists (which can create a certain distance from the viewer), a testament to the power of the story itself. Realistic and heartbreaking, it&rsquo;s a fascinating history lesson between drama and action, and defeats and victories, that never loses sight of its humanity.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25631 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Snapshot_902-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>While \u201cMasters of the Air\u201d could be criticized for a certain US flag-waving, an emphasis on military bravery, or its heroic tone with its emphatic shots of salutes, looks to the horizon or children gazing up at the sky, it remains coherent with the plot and in the continuity of the historical and military trilogy produced by the Hanks\/Spielberg pair. The series&rsquo; main flaw, however, lies in its last two episodes, and in particular in their storylines. The timeline suddenly jumps around several times while at the same time introducing a number of new characters who may have a role to play in the plot, but once this role is over, the series completely forgets about them, abandoning them as quickly as it introduced them. Another relationship between two characters is also abruptly dropped (yes, not following up on certain relationships is also a lesson of war, but from a narrative standpoint it just feels flat). Even the relationships of the main characters are affected, with a conclusion that falls far short of the emotional impact of previous episodes, which is quite a shame. Yet the final episode is a real technical feat, with a wide variety of new sets, land-based action scenes and a large number of extras: this is a real conclusion movie (90&prime;) to the series, and in general to this historical three-part cycle. The end of the series isn&rsquo;t a misfire, but it&rsquo;s frustratingly weaker than the first episodes.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, \u201cMasters of the Air\u201d remains an incredibly well-told true story that commands admiration. After land and water, it logically concludes this TV trilogy in the air, and like the two previous installments, it is a work of memorial based on the recollections of the last survivors. Although surprisingly low-key, with very few hype around it, this is a very impressive, high-quality limited series.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s
