<em>Conjuring<\/em> lanc\u00e9 par James Wan, \u00ab\u00a0La Mal\u00e9diction de Sainte-Lucie\u00a0\u00bb constitue la suite de \u00ab\u00a0La Nonne\u00a0\u00bb, sorti en 2018. L\u2019on y retrouve le d\u00e9mon Valak, r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour prendre la forme d\u2019une religieuse gla\u00e7ante, qui a migr\u00e9 de la Roumanie vers la France. Et son passage dans l\u2019Hexagone comme partout ailleurs ne se fait pas sans heurts\u2026<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s la mort troublante d\u2019un pr\u00eatre de la r\u00e9gion, notre d\u00e9mon-nonne se retrouve ainsi en Provence \u00e0 hanter un pensionnat pour jeunes filles. Alert\u00e9 par la situation, le Vatican d\u00e9p\u00eache S\u0153ur Ir\u00e8ne qui avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu affaire \u00e0 la Nonne dans le pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent opus. Co\u00efncidence, S\u0153ur Ir\u00e8ne constate alors que Maurice, lui aussi t\u00e9moin des pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents \u00e9v\u00e8nements en Roumanie, travaille dans le pensionnat. Aurait-il un lien plus direct avec le d\u00e9mon Valak\u00a0?<\/p><p>Paradoxalement, le sc\u00e9nario de \u00ab\u00a0La Nonne 2\u00a0\u00bb manque quelque peu d\u2019originalit\u00e9 tout en s\u2019\u00e9parpillant par moments. Certes, les relations entre les personnages et la construction de ces derniers restent assez superficielles, \u00e0 l\u2019image d\u2019un sch\u00e9ma narratif relativement classique. Mais parfois sont cr\u00e9\u00e9es des explications et sous-intrigues d\u00e9monologiques et martyrologiques qui apparaissent comme capillotract\u00e9es, \u00e0 l\u2019instar des liens entre Lucie de Syracuse (Sainte Lucie), Valak et S\u0153ur Ir\u00e8ne. Ce n\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs pas le premier film \u00e0 \u00eatre con\u00e7u de la sorte.<\/p><p>En revanche, outre des bons <em>jump scares<\/em>, \u00ab\u00a0La Nonne 2\u00a0\u00bb pr\u00e9sente de beaux effets sp\u00e9ciaux autour de son d\u00e9mon f\u00e9tiche et de belles sc\u00e8nes horrifiques qui valent le d\u00e9tour. Ainsi de la marquante et bien vue sc\u00e8ne des magazines, et de la poursuite dans le clocher du pensionnat. Le climax du film se r\u00e9v\u00e8le lui aussi assez prenant. Le long-m\u00e9trage se montre ainsi efficace et entre dans la lign\u00e9e de l\u2019univers Conjuring. It features the demon Valak, reputed to take the form of a chilling nun, who moved from Romania to France. And his visit to France, like everywhere else, is not going unnoticed&#8230;<\/p><p>After the disturbing death of a local priest, our demon-nun finds herself haunting a boarding school for young girls in Provence. Warned of the situation, the Vatican dispatches Sister Ir\u00e8ne, who had already dealt with the Nun in the previous film. As a coincidence, Sister Ir\u00e8ne notices that Maurice, who also witnessed the previous events in Romania, is also currently working at the boarding school. Could he have a more direct connection with the demon Valak?<\/p><p>Paradoxically, \u201cThe Nun 2\u201d&rsquo;s screenplay lacks a little originality, and is at times unfocused. Admittedly, the relationships between the characters and the development of the latter remain rather superficial, in line with a relatively conventional narrative pattern. At times, however, demonological and martyrological explanations and subplots are created that come across as far-fetched, such as the connection between Lucia of Syracuse (Saint Lucy), Valak and Sister Irene. This is surely not the first film to be crafted in this way.<\/p><p>On the other hand, in addition to some good jump scares, \u201cThe Nun 2\u201d features some great special effects around its fetish demon and some great horrific scenes that are well worth the detour. These include the striking and well-executed magazine scene, and the chase through the bell tower of the boarding school. The film&rsquo;s climax also proves quite gripping. It&rsquo;s an effective movie, fully in line with the Conjuring universe. Moreover, the epilogue (in addition to tying Valak&rsquo;s story to the Warren couple) suggests a sequel or the development of a plot centered on the Maurice\/Frenchie character, already mentioned in other films in the saga.
