produite par la <em>20<sup>th<\/sup> Century Fox<\/em>, \u00ab\u00a0Myst\u00e8re \u00e0 Venise\u00a0\u00bb conclut les aventures d\u2019Hercule Poirot r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par Kenneth Branagh. Apr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Le Crime de l\u2019Orient-Express\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0Mort sur le Nil\u00a0\u00bb, le r\u00e9alisateur et acteur nord-irlandais (Belfast\u00a0; Thor\u00a0; Henri V) adapte cette fois-ci un roman moins connu de la l\u00e9gendaire auteure de romans policiers, \u00e0 savoir \u00ab\u00a0Le Crime d\u2019Halloween\u00a0\u00bb (La f\u00eate du potiron). Michael Green, sc\u00e9nariste des deux pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents volets est \u00e9galement de retour, et prend de nombreuses libert\u00e9s par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019origine en ajoutant une dimension presque fantastique et en transposant l\u2019intrigue \u00e0 Venise.<\/p><p>On retrouve donc notre d\u00e9tective belge \u00e0 Venise, \u00e0 la veille de la Toussaint, deux ans apr\u00e8s la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Retrait\u00e9, seul, amer depuis les ravages caus\u00e9s par les guerres et les crimes dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00e9moin au cours de sa carri\u00e8re, il vit d\u00e9sormais en ermite de luxe et a renonc\u00e9 \u00e0 sa vocation d\u2019enqu\u00eateur. C\u2019est alors qu\u2019une c\u00e9l\u00e8bre auteure de romans policiers lui rend visite et l\u2019invite \u00e0 assister \u00e0 une s\u00e9ance de spiritisme. Elle compte sur Poirot, en tant que farouche cart\u00e9sien, pour d\u00e9jouer la probable imposture. Mais s\u2019il s\u2019y rend \u00e0 contrec\u0153ur, le crime ne tardera pas \u00e0 le rattraper et le remettre en selle \u2026<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Myst\u00e8re \u00e0 Venise\u00a0\u00bb reprend alors les m\u00eames ingr\u00e9dients de la formule utilis\u00e9e dans les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents opus\u00a0: un ou deux meurtres spectaculaires, toute une s\u00e9rie d\u2019alibis et de mobiles en tous genres, et toute une panoplie d\u2019acteurs entourant le d\u00e9tective moustachu une fois de plus l\u00e9g\u00e8rement \u00e9toff\u00e9 par rapport au roman (m\u00eame si en guise de conclusion, il aurait pu l\u2019\u00eatre encore plus) avec notamment Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kelly Reilly, Jamie Dornan, et la fran\u00e7aise Camille Cottin. Le casting est moins c\u00e9l\u00e8bre que dans les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, mais r\u00e9ussit tr\u00e8s bien \u00e0 dispara\u00eetre dans leur personnage quand on ne voyait que les vedettes et leurs costumes \u00e9tincelants dans \u00ab\u00a0Mort sur le Nil\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p><p>Un autre atout de ce troisi\u00e8me volet est son environnement qui \u2013 contrairement au pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent film \u2013 nourrit l\u2019intrigue avec une atmosph\u00e8re sombre et myst\u00e9rieuse entourant les canaux v\u00e9nitiens mettant habilement en sc\u00e8ne la parano\u00efa des personnages et des spectateurs. Branagh glisse cette fois hors du r\u00e9el, vers le film de genre mi-horrifique mi-fantastique tout en conservant la structure du \u2018<em>whodunnit\u2019<\/em> policier avec une \u00e9nigme \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre dans un huis-clos. C\u2019est un <em>cluedo<\/em> dans un <em>palazzo<\/em> d\u00e9cr\u00e9pit et hant\u00e9. Un m\u00e9lange tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussi qui en fait probablement le film le plus palpitant de la trilogie bien qu\u2019il soit \u00e9galement quelque peu pr\u00e9visible. Si le deuxi\u00e8me opus avait doubl\u00e9 le budget du premier, celui-ci revient \u00e0 un budget abordable et reprend une formule dont il assemble cette fois correctement les pi\u00e8ces.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Myst\u00e8re \u00e0 Venise\u00a0\u00bb est donc un thriller policier v\u00e9nitien teint\u00e9 de surnaturel et jouant avec les codes de l\u2019horreur, certes assez conventionnel mais n\u00e9anmoins agr\u00e9ablement divertissant.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><p>PS\u00a0: Attention\u00a0! After \u201cMurder on the Orient Express\u201d and \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d, the Northern Irish director and actor (Belfast ; Thor ; Henry V) this time adapts a lesser-known novel by the legendary mystery writer, namely \u201cHallowe\u2019en Party\u201d. Michael Green, screenwriter of the previous two films, is also back, and takes a few liberties with the original work, adding an almost fantastical dimension and setting the plot in Venice.<\/p><p>We find our Belgian detective in Venice on Halloween, two years after the end of the Second World War. Retired, alone and bitter about the devastation caused by the wars and crimes he witnessed during his career, he now lives as a fancy hermit and has given up his calling as an investigator. Then a famous mystery writer visits him and invites him to attend a seance. She&rsquo;s counting on Poirot, as a staunch Cartesian, to foil the suspected hoax. But if he goes reluctantly, it won&rsquo;t be long before the crime catches up with him and sets him back up again&#8230;<\/p><p>\u201cA Haunting in Venice\u201d features all the same ingredients of the formula used in the previous movies: one or two dramatic murders, a whole series of alibis and motivations of all kinds, and a slew of actors surrounding the moustached detective, once again slightly fleshed out in comparison with the novel (even though, for a conclusion, he could have been developed even more so), including Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kelly Reilly, Jamie Dornan and Frenchwoman Camille Cottin. The cast is less star-studded than in previous installments, but manages very well to disappear into their characters when all we saw in \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d were the big names and their shiny costumes.<\/p><p>Another plus of this third film is its setting, which \u2013 unlike in the previous one \u2013 fuels the plot with a dark, mysterious atmosphere surrounding the Venetian canals, skillfully staging the paranoia of characters and viewers alike. This time, Branagh drifts away from reality, towards the half-horrific, half-fantasy genre film, while maintaining the structure of a detective whodunnit with a mystery to be solved under closed doors. It&rsquo;s a <em>cluedo<\/em> in a decaying, and haunted <em>palazzo<\/em>. It&rsquo;s a very good blend, making it probably the most exciting film in the trilogy, although it&rsquo;s also somewhat predictable. While the second installment doubled the budget of the first, this one returns to a reasonable budget and takes up a formula, this time correctly assembling the pieces.<\/p><p>\u201cA Haunting in Venice\u201d is therefore a Venetian crime thriller tinted with the supernatural and embracing the codes of horror, admittedly fairly conventional but nonetheless pleasantly entertaining.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><p>PS: Beware!
