Le r\u00e9alisateur australien r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 rendre parfaitement compr\u00e9hensible une intrigue et des enjeux financiers qui auraient pu \u00eatre n\u00e9buleux en utilisant beaucoup d\u2019\u00e9crans et de journaux TV r\u00e9sumant la situation en avan\u00e7ant \u00e0 la vitesse d\u2019une com\u00e9die. Le sc\u00e9nario tr\u00e8s bien ficel\u00e9 de Lauren Schuker Blum &amp; Rebecca Angelo tr\u00e8s joue justement sur un ton comique et m\u00e9nage le suspense (si vous n\u2019avez pas suivi l\u2019affaire) autour d\u2019une question : les petits investisseurs vendront-ils leurs actions pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer leurs b\u00e9n\u00e9fices au risque de briser le bras de fer contre les vautours des fonds d\u2019investissements ?<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Bien loin du \u00ab Loup de Wall Street \u00bb, le film suit ici le d\u00e9nomm\u00e9 Roaring Kitty superbement interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Paul Dano, excellent en geek ordinaire sans complexe mais convaincu, autour d\u2019un gros casting compos\u00e9 notamment d\u2019America Ferrara et Anthony Ramos en pauvres investisseurs, de Pete Davidson en fr\u00e8re burlesque, de la tr\u00e8s juste Shailene Woodley, et du trio Seth Rogen, Vincent D\u2019Onofrio et Sebastian Stan dans le camp Wall-Street. Si les portraits ne sont pas tant d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019exception du personnage principal et de sa famille, c\u2019est bien parce que cette mosa\u00efque de personnages constitue des groupes et c\u2019est ensemble qu\u2019ils se cr\u00e9ent un r\u00e9el poids dans cette histoire.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Film-manifeste savoureux et pertinent, \u00ab Dumb Money \u00bb porte un message fort \u2013 dans une d\u00e9clinaison moderne de Robin des Bois \u2013 le pouvoir des masses est capable de renverser les riches et refl\u00e8te aussi une Am\u00e9rique fractur\u00e9e qui prend sa revanche sur l\u2019\u00e9lite. O\u00f9 l\u2019aberration de la sp\u00e9culation boursi\u00e8re est alors prise \u00e0 son propre pi\u00e8ge par des gens qui ont choisi d\u2019investir dans une belle histoire, une histoire dont ils ont pu ma\u00eetriser le cours ! This is \u201cDumb Money\u201d, as retail investments are called by financial professionals, a film that looks back at the Robinhood scandal and GameStop&rsquo;s stock market craze.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">When a ragtag group of small US investors, loosely led by a YouTuber and Reddit poster, flooded GameStop shares in the wake of the pandemic, the company&rsquo;s value plummeted, putting several hedge funds that had shorted the stock (essentially, betting on the company&rsquo;s decline) suddenly at risk. The event not only sent shockwaves through Wall Street, but also heralded the democratization of the stock market, which until then had been closed and controlled by a minority of the ultra-rich.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Along the lines of Adam McKay&rsquo;s brilliant movie \u201cThe Big Short\u201d about the sub-prime crisis \u2013 but without the 4th wall breaks and less offbeat \u2013 Craig Gillespie&rsquo;s (I, Tonya; Cruella; Pam &amp; Tommy) latest film is a light-hearted retelling of a real-life David versus Goliath story set in the world of finance. The Australian director succeeds in making a plot and financial stakes that could have been confusing perfectly understandable by using lots of screens and TV news to summarize the situation, while moving at the speed of a comedy. Lauren Schuker Blum &amp; Rebecca Angelo&rsquo;s very well-crafted script takes indeed a comical tone and builds suspense (if you haven&rsquo;t been following the story) around one question: will small investors sell their shares to recoup their profits at the risk of breaking the contest with the corporate money lords?<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">A far cry from \u201cThe Wolf of Wall Street\u201d, the film follows Roaring Kitty, wonderfully played by Paul Dano, who excels as an unapologetic but committed ordinary geek, alongside a huge cast including America Ferrara and Anthony Ramos as the poor investors, Pete Davidson as the oddball brother, the very good Shailene Woodley, and the trio of Seth Rogen, Vincent D&rsquo;Onofrio and Sebastian Stan on the Wall-Street side. If the character studies are not so developed, with the exception of the main character and his family, it&rsquo;s because this motley crew of characters creates groups, and it&rsquo;s together that they make a real impact on the story.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">\u201cDumb Money\u201d is a clever and relevant manifesto movie with a strong message \u2013 in a modern take on Robin Hood \u2013 the power of the masses is able to overthrow the rich, and it also mirrors a fractured America that is taking its revenge on the elite. The absurdity of stock market speculation is thus caught in its own trap by people who have chosen to invest in a good story, a story whose price they can control! And in the end, the film is perhaps not as revealing of the financial markets as it is of the Internet&rsquo;s ability to rally &#8230;<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">While not 100% realistic in its depiction of the Reddit community, \u201cDumb Money\u201d nonetheless manages to tell the story in a pleasant, simple, light-hearted and often funny way, with definitely some good moments. It&rsquo;s a critical film, but it&rsquo;s a positive and stimulating one, which will certainly inspire you to get involved in the stock market too!<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div
