Cette obscurit\u00e9 des entrailles de la terre que creusent les h\u00e9ros de ce film r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Mathieu Turi. En 1956, dans le nord de la France, des mineurs descendent \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de mille m\u00e8tres de profondeur au service d\u2019un chercheur d\u00e9sireux de faire des pr\u00e9l\u00e8vements. Mais parmi les veines carbon\u00e9es et autres cavit\u00e9s, ces hommes vont faire d\u2019\u00e9tranges d\u00e9couvertes\u2026<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">B\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant d\u2019un pr\u00e9alable et complet travail de recherche, \u00ab Gueules noires \u00bb s\u2019apparente dans son premier tiers \u00e0 un documentaire immersif, o\u00f9 l\u2019on suit le regard initi\u00e9 d\u2019Amir, jeune Marocain en qu\u00eate d\u2019une vie meilleure en France, tout juste recrut\u00e9 dans un groupe de mineurs issus des diverses vagues d\u2019immigration. Progressivement, l\u2019on s\u2019impr\u00e8gne de la promiscuit\u00e9 des souterrains, de l\u2019oppression des boyaux, pour mieux y trouver un malaise grandissant et une peur qui se substitue \u00e0 la curiosit\u00e9, surtout apr\u00e8s le constat que les lieux sont hant\u00e9s, voire habit\u00e9s\u2026<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Visuellement, le film pr\u00e9sente une photographie et un \u00e9clairage savamment travaill\u00e9s, o\u00f9 les lampes en constant mouvement se perdent dans les ab\u00eemes d\u2019une obscurit\u00e9 angoissante, ce qui met efficacement en valeur les d\u00e9cors pourtant simples mais r\u00e9els \u2013 le tournage ayant eu lieu dans de v\u00e9ritables mines et une \u00e9glise monolithique. La musique d\u2019Olivier Derivi\u00e8re (dont c\u2019est le premier travail cin\u00e9matographique) accompagne et rehausse cette tension g\u00e9n\u00e9rale qui crispe les personnages et augmente le myst\u00e8re autour de l\u2019univers qu\u2019ils explorent.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Inspir\u00e9 d\u2019ailleurs de l\u2019\u0153uvre lovecraftienne et d\u2019\u00ab Alien \u00bb, \u00ab Gueules noires \u00bb flirte aussi avec un \u00e9sot\u00e9risme horrifique affich\u00e9, incarn\u00e9 par un monstre osseux con\u00e7u par l\u2019artiste Keisuke Yoneyama. Avec peu d\u2019effets sp\u00e9ciaux, donc, le film marie r\u00e9alisme et fantastique dans ces t\u00e9n\u00e8bres humaines, sources de r\u00eaves et de cauchemars. The darkness of the bowels of the earth that the heroes of this film, directed by Mathieu Turi, dig. In 1956, in the north of France, miners descend to a depth of almost a thousand meters, working for a scientist who wants to take samples. But among the carbon veins and other cavities, these men are about to make some strange discoveries&#8230;<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Drawing on extensive background research, the first third of \u201cThe Deep Dark\u201d (litteraly in French \u201cBlack faces\u201d) resembles an immersive documentary, as we follow Amir, a young Moroccan in search of a better life in France, who has just been recruited into a group of miners from various waves of immigration. Gradually, we are drawn into the promiscuity of the underground, the oppression of the bowels, only to find a growing sense of unease and fear replacing curiosity, especially once we realize that the places are haunted, even living&#8230;<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Visually, the film&rsquo;s photography and lighting are skilfully crafted, with constantly moving lights lost in the abyss of eerie darkness, effectively highlighting the simple yet real sets &#8211; filming took place in real mines and a monolithic church. The music by Olivier Derivi\u00e8re (whose first film score it is) adds to and enhances the general tension that grips the characters and increases the mystery surrounding the universe they are exploring.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Inspired by Lovecraftian works and \u201cAlien\u201d, \u201cThe Deep Dark\u201d also flirts with a horrific esotericism, embodied by a bony monster designed by artist Keisuke Yoneyama. With few special effects, then, the film marries realism and fantasy in this human darkness, a source of dreams and nightmares. Innovative in form (though classic in plot), \u201cThe Deep Dark\u201d is a tribute to miners and the fears they have nurtured and accumulated over the decades down here.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Axel
