Un film nostalgique qui nous berce dans les bons et mauvais souvenirs de l\u2019adolescence nord-am\u00e9ricaine de la d\u00e9cennie 1970.<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"25f70-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"25f70-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"25f70-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"dg1m1-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"dg1m1-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"dg1m1-0-0\">Nous voici donc dans une banlieue hupp\u00e9e de D\u00e9troit, Michigan. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque de la non-mixit\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole, des jeunes hommes se lient d\u2019amiti\u00e9 et s\u2019amourachent pour les cinq s\u0153urs Lisbon, dont la cadette, Cecilia, se fait d\u2019abord conna\u00eetre de tout le voisinage suite \u00e0 une premi\u00e8re tentative de suicide inexpliqu\u00e9e. Mais Cecilia finit par r\u00e9ussir son coup, laissant ses quatre s\u0153urs et ses parents dans un d\u00e9sarroi total\u2026 Les gar\u00e7ons assistent et participent alors indirectement, impuissants, \u00e0 une s\u00e9rie de drames chez les Lisbon qui les marqueront et les obs\u00e8deront \u00e0 jamais\u2026<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"3a6f1-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3a6f1-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3a6f1-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"2nbdt-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2nbdt-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2nbdt-0-0\">Bizarrement (au vu de son titre \u00e9vocateur), \u00ab Virgin Suicides \u00bb pr\u00e9sente avec douceur et avec tendresse les interrogations et les traumatismes de l\u2019adolescence. De par son fil narratif construit par bribes de souvenirs et t\u00e9moignages rapi\u00e9c\u00e9s de la part de plusieurs narrateurs, le long-m\u00e9trage suit une trame qui se veut \u00e0 la fois coh\u00e9rente et impr\u00e9cise, nous laissant alors libres d\u2019appr\u00e9cier certains \u00e9v\u00e8nements comme s\u2019il s\u2019agissait de nos propres vies. Outre une grande diversit\u00e9 de points de vue (et, cin\u00e9matographiquement, de plans \u2013 parfois \u00e9tonnants), le film offre une grande proximit\u00e9 avec les personnages, leurs actions et leurs sentiments, ce qui donne \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble une saveur rass\u00e9r\u00e9nante, m\u00eame lors des moments moins joyeux.<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"3uon0-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3uon0-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3uon0-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"14d3q-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"14d3q-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"14d3q-0-0\">Car le long-m\u00e9trage ne fait pas que raviver des souvenirs d\u2019une \u00e9poque r\u00e9volue : le film traite avant tout de la fulgurance des suicides, de leur violence surgie sans crier gare, qu\u2019il y ait des signes avant-coureurs ou non. Les s\u0153urs Lisbon souffrent en effet sans mot dire de la pression qu\u2019exercent leurs parents (notamment leur m\u00e8re) croyants et tr\u00e8s conservateurs, pression qui entre en contradiction avec leurs envies d\u2019amiti\u00e9, d\u2019amour et d\u2019\u00e9mancipation. A nostalgic film that lulls us into the good and bad memories of North American adolescence in the 1970s.<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"8ca8h-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8ca8h-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8ca8h-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"8bcet-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8bcet-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8bcet-0-0\">So here we are in an affluent suburb of Detroit, Michigan. In the era of single-sex schools, young men befriend and fall in love with the five Lisbon sisters, the youngest of whom, Cecilia, first makes herself known to the whole neighbourhood after her first unexplained suicide attempt. But Cecilia eventually succeeds, leaving her four sisters and her parents in total disarray&#8230; The boys then witness and participate indirectly, powerless, in a series of tragedies in the Lisbon household that will scar and obsess them forever&#8230;<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"38sc8-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"38sc8-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"38sc8-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"eg9lo-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"eg9lo-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"eg9lo-0-0\">Oddly enough (given its evocative title), \u201cVirgin Suicides\u201d gently and tenderly explores the questions and traumas of adolescence. With its narrative thread built around snatches of memories and patched-together testimonies from several narrators, the film follows a framework that is both coherent and imprecise, leaving us free to appreciate certain events as if they were our own lives. In addition to a wide variety of points of view (and, some astonishing shots), the film offers a close relationship with the characters, their actions and their feelings, which gives the whole thing a reassuring flavor, even during the less happy moments.<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"bniua-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bniua-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bniua-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3f9mf\" data-offset-key=\"6657a-0-0\"><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6657a-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6657a-0-0\">The film does more than simply revive memories of a bygone era: it is above all about the fulgurating nature of suicides, the violence that erupts without warning, whether there are early indications or not. The Lisbon sisters suffer wordlessly from the pressure exerted by their religious and very conservative parents (particularly their mother), a pressure that clashes with their desire for friendship, love and emancipation. The fate of the five sisters is similar to that of the elm trees that Cecilia found so fascinating, watched over, sickened and then cut down&#8230; A bittersweet story that leaves its mark on the
