Lorsqu\u2019une crise \u00e9clate \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un attentat visant son homologue russe, un ultimatum du Kremlin pousse le chef de l\u2019\u00c9tat et son cabinet restreint \u00e0 d\u00e9battre d\u2019une d\u00e9cision vertigineuse dans le PC Jupiter sous l\u2019\u00c9lys\u00e9e.<\/p><p>Le r\u00e9alisateur-sc\u00e9nariste Alexandre Smia inscrit son premier film derri\u00e8re la cam\u00e9ra dans la lign\u00e9e du genre atomique de \u00ab Point Limite \u00bb (Sidney Lumet, 1964) \u00e0 \u00ab House of Dynamite \u00bb (Kathryn Bigelow, 2025) \u2013 en passant r\u00e9cemment chez nous par \u00ab Le Chant du Loup \u00bb (Antonin Baudry, 2019) \u2013, en adaptant ces enjeux \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 g\u00e9opolitique actuelle dans un contexte plausible (mais fictif) d\u2019une Ukraine accul\u00e9e et de dirigeants occidentaux divis\u00e9s face \u00e0 une OTAN d\u00e9laiss\u00e9e par les USA et une Russie plus encline \u00e0 menacer les alli\u00e9s europ\u00e9ens. Quasiment uniquement tourn\u00e9 en huis-clos dans ce lieu secret de d\u00e9cisions aux lourdes cons\u00e9quences, son film est construit en cinq actes et selon une (quasi) unit\u00e9 de temps et de lieu rappelant la forme classique de la trag\u00e9die. Mais si le drame se profile d\u00e8s l\u2019introduction, c\u2019est bien la tension qui s\u2019installe avant tout et progresse tout du long dans un rythme soutenu o\u00f9 s\u2019encha\u00eenent les situations dans une efficacit\u00e9 haletante.<\/p><p>Denis M\u00e9nochet y livre une prestation remarquable d\u2019intensit\u00e9 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s notamment d\u2019Andr\u00e9 Dussollier en Chef-d\u2019\u00c9tat Major, Dominique Blanc en Ministre des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res et Reda Kateb en Ministre des arm\u00e9es. En jouant de tr\u00e8s gros plans sur les visages et d\u2019un cadre resserr\u00e9 par l\u2019\u00e9troitesse des lieux, le film insiste sur l\u2019enfermement du protagoniste, de son isolement familial \u00e0 la solitude de la figure pr\u00e9sidentielle, en allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 jouer avec les spectres de la mort lorsque les possibilit\u00e9s de frappes sont \u00e9voqu\u00e9es, car <em>in fine<\/em> si la puissance destructrice d\u2019une arme nucl\u00e9aire est bel et bien incommensurable, la d\u00e9cision de sa frappe ne revient qu\u2019\u00e0 un seul homme (ou femme \u2026).<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30840 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Snapshot_6801.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Snapshot_6801.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Snapshot_6801-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Snapshot_6801-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Snapshot_6801-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Dans une atmosph\u00e8re cr\u00e9pusculaire et claustrophobique jouant sur les ombres et les lumi\u00e8res comme pr\u00e9monitoire d\u2019un monde fun\u00e8bre, \u00ab\u00a0Jupiter\u00a0\u00bb explore le poids de la fonction pr\u00e9sidentielle sous la V<sup>e<\/sup> R\u00e9publique, et la fragilit\u00e9 d\u2019un humain face \u00e0 son pouvoir de foudre. Le sc\u00e9nario questionne ainsi les notions de dignit\u00e9 &amp; d\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9 et les d\u00e9limitations de nos int\u00e9r\u00eats vitaux dans une s\u00e9rie de dialogues tendus autour de l\u2019abstraction d\u2019une telle menace. Car toute l\u2019action du film est contenue dans ces rafales de r\u00e9pliques qui fusent telle une fusillade de controverse o\u00f9 \u2018tout peut \u00eatre envisageable\u2019 pour \u00e9viter l\u2019annihilation. Si quelques dialogues peuvent para\u00eetre un peu explicatifs (parfois totalement cr\u00e9dibles, parfois moins), le sc\u00e9nario rec\u00e8le deux superbes inflexions \u2013 l\u2019une \u00e9thique, l\u2019autre tactique \u2013 qui jouent justement dans cette suppos\u00e9e fragilit\u00e9 face au poids de la menace nucl\u00e9aire. When a crisis erupts following an attack on his Russian counterpart, an ultimatum from the Kremlin forces the president and his inner circle to debate a staggering decision in the Jupiter Command Center beneath the \u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace.<\/p><p>Director-screenwriter Alexandre Smia brings his directorial debut into the tradition of the nuclear genre, ranging from \u201cFail-Safe\u201d (Sidney Lumet, 1964) to \u201cHouse of Dynamite\u201d (Kathryn Bigelow, 2025) \u2013 including most recently, here in France, \u201cThe Wolf\u2019s Call\u201d (Antonin Baudry, 2019) \u2013, by adapting these themes to today\u2019s geopolitical reality within a plausible (yet fictional) context of a cornered Ukraine and divided Western leaders facing a NATO deserted by the U.S. and a Russia more inclined to threaten the European allies. Shot almost entirely behind closed doors in this secret venue where decisions with far-reaching consequences are made, his film is structured in five acts and follows a (near) unity of time and place reminiscent of the classical form of tragedy. But while the drama looms from the very beginning, it is the tension that takes hold first and foremost, building steadily throughout at a brisk pace as one situation follows another with breathless effect.<\/p><p>Denis M\u00e9nochet delivers a remarkably intense performance alongside, notably, Andr\u00e9 Dussollier as the Chief of Defence Staff, Dominique Blanc as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Reda Kateb as the Minister of the Armed Forces. The screenplay thus examines the notions of dignity and integrity, as well as the boundaries of our vital interests, through a series of tense dialogues centered on the abstract nature of such a threat. For the film\u2019s entire action is contained within these rapid-fire exchanges, which erupt like a shootout of controversy where \u201canything is possible\u201d to prevent annihilation. While some of the dialogue may seem a bit explanatory (sometimes entirely credible, sometimes less so), the screenplay features two brilliant insights \u2013 one ethical, the other tactical \u2013 that play precisely on this alleged fragility in the face of the overwhelming threat of nuclear war. For above all, this is a film thoroughly researched on its subject: nuclear deterrence, and more specifically French nuclear deterrence and the doctrine that comes with it \u2013 which seems all the
