Deux communaut\u00e9s. Deux villages. L\u2019un de bergers, perch\u00e9 sur la montagne, et l\u2019autre de cultivateurs, en contrebas. Un passif ancestral subsiste entre le haut et le bas de cette g\u00e9ographie, une rivalit\u00e9 topographique, historique et sociale persiste au gr\u00e9 des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations comme l\u2019angoisse s\u00e9culaire des voisins. C\u2019est l\u2019histoire d\u2019une communaut\u00e9 qui en arrive au point d\u2019envisager de vivre sans l\u2019autre.<\/p><p>Emin Alper nous plonge \u00e0 nouveau dans une petite communaut\u00e9 turque qu\u2019il explore comme un microcosme pour refl\u00e9ter le fonctionnement de tout un pays, voire des relations humaines et soci\u00e9tales de mani\u00e8re plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Il ne donne acc\u00e8s qu\u2019au point de vue d\u2019un des deux villages pour le diss\u00e9quer de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur tel un laboratoire d\u2019o\u00f9 il observe les m\u00e9canismes de la peur et les origines de la violence. Le r\u00e9alisateur de \u00ab\u00a0Burning Days\u00a0\u00bb y explore les dessous de la terreur et, au fond, les racines du conflit en soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 travers la fragile cohabitation de ces deux communaut\u00e9s siamoises. Aucun personnage n\u2019est vraiment rendu attachant, tous \u00e9tant plus ou moins antipathiques, dans ce qui s\u2019impose avant tout comme un film d\u2019\u00e9tude qui s\u2019attache \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne loin d\u2019\u00eatre propre \u00e0 cette situation. Ce n\u2019est pas un r\u00e9cit qui se veut sp\u00e9cifiquement (et encore moins exclusivement) turc, mais au contraire qui tend bien plus vers l\u2019universel et offre ainsi de fortes r\u00e9sonances politiques actuelles et historiques dans sa construction fantasmagorique d\u2019un ennemi.<\/p><p>Or le mal s\u2019accompagne toujours de sa justification morale. Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse d\u2019une l\u00e9gitime d\u00e9fense, souvent pr\u00e9ventive d\u2019ailleurs (\u00ab\u00a0finissons-en, avant que cette guerre ne commence\u00a0\u00bb), ou du sens de l\u2019histoire, souvent directement issu de la volont\u00e9 divine (ici, l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation onirique), c\u2019est toujours une violence qui nous d\u00e9passe, qui n\u2019est pas de notre volont\u00e9 ou de notre ressort. Cette l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 passe de plus, souvent par des r\u00e9f\u00e9rences au pass\u00e9 (ici, l\u2019\u00e9poque faste du grand-p\u00e8re) et d\u2019une grandeur perdue qui n\u2019attend qu\u2019\u00e0 revenir, une fois guid\u00e9e. Le parall\u00e8le avec le terrorisme (que les personnages tentent pourtant de combattre ici) ou le fascisme du XX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle est donc assez clair. Que ce soit pour la religion ou d\u2019autres formes de pouvoir plus s\u00e9culaires, il y a une claire propension dans l\u2019Histoire \u00e0 attribuer son malheur \u00e0 des \u00ab\u00a0ennemis\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 diriger les haines \u2013 qu\u2019elles soient territoriales ou fantasm\u00e9es \u2013 vers l\u2019Autre, et de mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale \u00e0 exploiter les frustrations d\u2019une population pour faire communaut\u00e9 au prix des autres.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30460 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Snapshot_6720.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Snapshot_6720.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Snapshot_6720-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Snapshot_6720-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Snapshot_6720-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Que ce soit dans l\u2019opposition entre les chefs de village ou entre les cheikhs du village en question, la dynamique est toujours la m\u00eame\u00a0: entre un homme qui veut la paix et un qui veut la guerre, c\u2019est toujours cette derni\u00e8re qui prime dans une augmentation de l\u2019animosit\u00e9 envers les minorit\u00e9s partout dans le monde, et une progression de la dimension g\u00e9nocidaire. La peur est alors vue comme le catalyseur originel. Et la terreur de toute une r\u00e9gion n\u2019est donc ici que la r\u00e9sultante de la peur d\u2019un homme (de sa jalousie \u00e0 sa parano\u00efa). Et m\u00eame si les dits-terroristes ne sont jamais visibles dans l\u2019intrigue, la menace qu\u2019ils repr\u00e9sente est, elle, bien omnipr\u00e9sente.<\/p><p>Drame implacable sous tension, \u00ab\u00a0Salvation\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose tout autant pour son esth\u00e9tique rocheuse \u00e0 flanc de montagnes dans des paysages anatoliens film\u00e9s \u00e0 la Sergio Leone, que pour sa mise en sc\u00e8ne \u00e0 la lisi\u00e8re du fantastique. Le cin\u00e9aste turc joue en effet d\u2019une succession de r\u00eaves pour interroger la proph\u00e9tie et l\u2019embrigadement dans des r\u00eaves partag\u00e9s qui refl\u00e8tent \u00e0 la fois l\u2019\u00e9tat mental du protagoniste, les angoisses collectives de la communaut\u00e9 et l\u2019aspect pr\u00e9monitoire de la parano\u00efa. La maison du protagoniste et ses escaliers labyrinthiques servent \u00e9galement de m\u00e9taphore pour des peurs et incertitudes que son regard per\u00e7ant dissimule dans la nuit. Mais le plus remarquable reste la mani\u00e8re dont la r\u00e9alisation laisse entrevoir d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part deux directions (notamment \u00e0 travers la danse religieuse) en conflit permanent tout du long jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019il n\u2019en reste plus qu\u2019une seule, et qu\u2019elle souligne alors subtilement les \u00e9volutions de la communaut\u00e9 \u00e0 travers le d\u00e9placement du lieu saint, le jugement de l\u2019\u00e9rudition et une lutte entre haut et bas permanente (entre deux villages mais aussi entre hommes et femmes dans ce m\u00eame village) qui m\u00e8ne au bord d\u2019une folie o\u00f9 finalement la terreur devient contagieuse.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42480e6 elementor-widget__width-initial exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42480e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>Two clans. Two communities. Two villages. One of shepherds, nestled high in the mountains, and the other of farmers, below. An ancestral animosity lingers between the upper and lower parts of this landscape; a topographical, historical, and social rivalry persists through the generations, much like the age-old anxiety between neighbors. This is the story of a community that has reached the point of considering life without the other.<\/p><p>Emin Alper once again takes us into a small Turkish community, which he explores as a microcosm to reflect the workings of an entire country, if not human and societal relationships as a whole. He offers a perspective from only one of the two villages, dissecting it from the inside like a laboratory from which he observes the dynamics of fear and the origins of violence. The director of \u201cBurning Days\u201d explores the underbelly of terror and, ultimately, the roots of social conflict through the fragile coexistence of these two inseparable communities. No character is truly likable here, in what is first and foremost a study film that seeks to illustrate a phenomenon far from being unique to this situation. This is not a story that claims to be specifically (let alone exclusively) Turkish; on the contrary, it leans much more toward the universal and thus offers strong contemporary and historical political resonances in its phantasmagorical construction of an enemy.<\/p><p>Yet evil is always paired with its moral justification. Whether it\u2019s self-defense \u2013 often preventive, for that matter (\u201clet\u2019s put an end to this before the war begins\u201d) \u2013 or the course of history \u2013 often directly stemming from divine will (here, the dreamlike interpretation) \u2013 it\u2019s always a form of violence that transcends us, that is beyond our control or our power. Moreover, this legitimacy often draws on references to the past (here, the grandfather\u2019s golden age) and a lost grandeur that is just begging to return, once properly guided. The parallel with terrorism (which the characters are actually trying to combat here) or 20<sup>th<\/sup>-century fascism is therefore quite clear. Whether it be religion or other, more secular forms of power, there is a clear tendency throughout history to attribute one\u2019s misfortune to \u201cenemies\u201d, to direct hatred \u2013 whether territorial or fantasized \u2013 towards the Other, and, more generally, to exploit a population\u2019s frustrations to forge a sense of community at the expense of others.<\/p><p>Whether it is a conflict between village chiefs or between the sheikhs of that village, the dynamic is always the same: between a man who wants peace and one who wants war, it is always the latter that prevails, leading to increased animosity toward minorities around the world and an escalation toward genocide. Fear is thus seen as the original catalyst. And the terror gripping an entire region is, in this case, merely the result of one man\u2019s fear \u2013 ranging from jealousy to paranoia. And even though the so-called terrorists are never visible in the plot, the threat they pose is, in fact, ever-present.<\/p><p>\u201cSalvation\u201d is a relentless, high-tension drama that stands out as much for its mountain-side aesthetics set against Anatolian landscapes filmed \u00e0 la Sergio Leone, as for its direction, which borders on the fantastical. The Turkish filmmaker uses a series of dreams to explore prophecy and indoctrination through shared dreams that reflect both the protagonist\u2019s mental state, the community\u2019s collective anxieties, and the premonitory nature of paranoia. The protagonist\u2019s house and its labyrinthine staircases also serve as a metaphor for the fears and uncertainties that his piercing gaze conceals in the night. But what is most striking is the way the film hints from the outset at two paths (especially through the religious dance) in perpetual struggle throughout, until only one remains, and then subtly highlights the community\u2019s evolution through the shifting of the sacred site, the judgment of knowledge, and a constant struggle between high and low (between two villages but also between men
