Avec ses airs de \u00ab Braquo \u00bb \u00e0 la sauce m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne, quelque part entre \u00ab BRI \u00bb et \u00ab Marseille \u00bb, c\u2019est du pur Marchal : \u00e7a d\u00e9canille, \u00e7a parle fort, \u00e7a va vite et personne n\u2019h\u00e9site \u00e0 sortir son flingue \u00e0 la moindre occasion.<\/p><p>Nouvelle production <em>Gaumont<\/em> chez <em>Netflix<\/em> (apr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Lupin\u00a0\u00bb), \u00ab\u00a0Pax Massilia\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose comme un polar muscl\u00e9 dont la r\u00e9alisation nerveuse, les dialogues de terrain et les acteurs charismatiques participent \u00e0 son imm\u00e9diate immersion. Port\u00e9e notamment par Tewfik Jallab (C\u0153urs Noirs) et Jeanne Goursaud (Barbares), la s\u00e9rie parle certes de corruption mais nous embarque surtout aupr\u00e8s d\u2019un groupe de police aussi soud\u00e9 qu\u2019isol\u00e9. Si son sc\u00e9nario appara\u00eet quelque peu convenu sur la violence de la cit\u00e9 phoc\u00e9enne, elle d\u00e9veloppe habilement les relations internes et externes de sa troupe de flics <em>borderline<\/em> avec Marseille. Comme l\u2019indique son titre, l\u2019enjeu n\u2019est pas tant la traque d\u2019un gang mais d\u2019assurer \u2013 ou de tenter de trouver \u2013 une certaine paix dans cette ville.<\/p><p>Au gr\u00e9 d\u2019une belle photographie, d\u2019un rythme soutenu et dynamique port\u00e9 par les percussions d\u2019une tension constante sur fond de rap local, \u00ab\u00a0Pax Massilia\u00a0\u00bb captive d\u00e8s ses premiers \u00e9pisodes autour de personnages qui deviennent finalement et rapidement tous plus ou moins attachants. Malheureusement tous ces nouveaux personnages, d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 ou de l\u2019autre du commissariat et de la cit\u00e9, s\u2019av\u00e8re tr\u00e8s unidimensionnels et parfois tr\u00e8s caricaturaux. R\u00e9sultat, les dialogues paraissent moins bons et l\u2019intrigue s\u2019\u00e9parpille plus (malgr\u00e9 de bonnes id\u00e9es sur l\u2019\u00e9largissement politique des enjeux). Si la saison 1 avait surpris par son efficacit\u00e9, cette saison 2 appara\u00eet quelque peu plus poussive \u2013 m\u00eame si elle conserve des qualit\u00e9s d\u2019action, de tension et d\u2019immersion \u2013 notamment \u00e0 travers une fin trop condens\u00e9e.<\/p><p>Si la premi\u00e8re saison faisait plut\u00f4t \u00e9cho \u00e0 la dynamique de la r\u00e9cente \u00ab\u00a0Plaine Orientale\u00a0\u00bb, cette seconde se rapproche plus d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0Mayor of Kingstown\u00a0\u00bb avec l\u2019incarc\u00e9ration d\u2019un personnage principal qui ajoute la prison comme nouvelle ar\u00e8ne de conflit dans cette ville. With its \u201cBraquo\u201d-esque vibe, Mediterranean-style \u2013 somewhere between \u201cBRI\u201d and \u201cMarseille\u201d \u2013 it\u2019s pure Marchal: guns blazing, loud dialogue, fast-paced action, and no one hesitates to pull out their gun at the slightest sign of trouble.<\/p><p>As <em>Gaumont<\/em>&lsquo;s latest production on <em>Netflix<\/em> (following \u201cLupin\u201d), \u201cPax Massilia\u201d stands out as a gritty crime drama whose fast-paced direction, authentic dialogue, and charismatic actors all contribute to its immediate immersive quality. Led notably by Tewfik Jallab (Dark Hearts) and Jeanne Goursaud (Barbarians), the series certainly tackles corruption but, above all, takes us on a journey with a police unit that is as close-knit as it is isolated. While its storyline may seem somewhat clich\u00e9d in its portrayal of violence in Marseille, it skillfully explores the internal and external dynamics of this group of borderline cops in Marseille. As the title suggests, the focus isn\u2019t so much on hunting down a gang as it is on ensuring \u2013 or attempting to find \u2013 a certain peace in this city.<\/p><p>With beautiful cinematography and a steady, dynamic pace driven by the constant tension of the beats against a backdrop of local rap, \u201cPax Massilia\u201d captivates viewers from the get-go with characters who all quickly become, to varying degrees, quite endearing. Unfortunately, all these new characters \u2013 on both sides of the police station and the housing project \u2013 turn out to be very one-dimensional and, at times, highly stereotypical. As a result, the dialogue feels weaker and the plot becomes more scattered (despite some good ideas regarding the broader political implications). While Season 1 surprised viewers with its effective storytelling, Season 2 feels somewhat more lackluster \u2013 even if it retains its strengths in action, tension, and immersion \u2013 particularly due to an overly rushed ending.<\/p><p>While the first season was more reminiscent of the dynamic of the recent \u201cPlaine Orientale\u201d, this second season is closer to a \u201cMayor of Kingstown\u201d, with the incarceration of a main character that introduces the prison as a new arena of conflict in this city.
