Apr\u00e8s un premier opus sur le super-h\u00e9ros le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre de son catalogue, il fait le choix de laisser un personnage moins connu \u00e9largir l\u2019univers \u00e0 travers ce second film consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 une figure f\u00e9minine et une proche de Clark Kent pour pouvoir relier le tout. Et m\u00eame en \u00e9tant r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par un autre, la patte James Gunn se ressent bel et bien dans ce nouvel opus qui s\u2019aventure dans le <em>space-opera<\/em> dont le style de science-fiction atterrit quelque part entre \u00e9videmment un \u00ab Gardien de la Galaxie \u00bb et un \u00ab Star Trek \u00bb dans le look des esp\u00e8ces aliens, des lieux et de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Toujours tr\u00e8s simpliste et enfantin dans sa trame, dans la continuit\u00e9 coh\u00e9rente de cet univers, force est de constater que m\u00eame si explorer l\u2019\u00e9tendue de l\u2019univers dans le second opus apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9tabli son ton est plut\u00f4t une bonne id\u00e9e, ce nouvel univers <em>DC<\/em> n\u2019est d\u00e9cidemment pas parti sur des bases tr\u00e8s solides \u2026<\/p><p>Le message de fond n\u2019est pas inint\u00e9ressant en montrant que les jeunes filles peuvent \u00eatre pleinement elles-m\u00eames avec toutes leurs imperfections et leur authenticit\u00e9 sans pour autant cesser d\u2019\u00eatre des h\u00e9ro\u00efnes, que ces deux aspects ne sont pas mutuellement exclusifs, et que rencontrer des difficult\u00e9s dans la vie n\u2019emp\u00eache pas forc\u00e9ment de r\u00e9ussir. Le sous-texte met ici en valeur la force de la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 et la puissance de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 dans une intrigue o\u00f9 \u00eatre une h\u00e9ro\u00efne ne signifie pas n\u00e9cessairement sauver le monde, mais aussi et plut\u00f4t se sauver soi-m\u00eame. A l\u2019image de la <em>tagline<\/em> du poster (<em>V\u00e9rit\u00e9. Justice. Et tout le blabla<\/em>), ce \u00ab\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0\u00bb met en sc\u00e8ne une excellente id\u00e9e, celle d\u2019une figure de super-h\u00e9ros d\u00e9sint\u00e9ress\u00e9e par sa vocation de super-h\u00e9ros, malheureusement pas exploit\u00e9e ad\u00e9quatement dans un film plomb\u00e9 par ses enjeux et personnages creux, binaires et fondamentalement inint\u00e9ressants qui le rendent au final beaucoup plus assommant que plaisant malgr\u00e9 sa dur\u00e9e relativement courte.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29558 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Mais au-del\u00e0 de ce fond int\u00e9ressant inexploit\u00e9, c\u2019est surtout un film tr\u00e8s in\u00e9gal dont la trame principale s\u2019av\u00e8re beaucoup moins int\u00e9ressante que ses <em>flashbacks<\/em> r\u00e9serv\u00e9s \u00e0 des moments d\u2019introspection. La trame principale s\u2019av\u00e8re ainsi \u00eatre plus celle de Ruthye que celle de Kara (alias Supergirl) \u2013 dans une dynamique un peu \u00e0 la \u00ab\u00a0True Grit\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 ce qui n\u2019est pas un probl\u00e8me en soi, car le film peut tout \u00e0 fait suivre deux adolescentes plut\u00f4t que de se concentrer exclusivement sur la super-h\u00e9ro\u00efne en tourn\u00e9e (d\u00e9pressive) des bars, mais encore faudrait-il d\u00e9velopper cet autre personnage sur lequel repose toute cette trame principale. On se retrouve alors avec absolument aucun personnage nuanc\u00e9 ou un minimum intrigant, de ces brigands anonymes et g\u00e9n\u00e9riques dont le chef jou\u00e9 par Matthias Schoenaerts n\u2019a absolument rien \u00e0 offrir si ce n\u2019est un horrible costume, \u00e0 cet alli\u00e9 de circonstance jou\u00e9 par un Jason Momoa dont le jeu en roue libre appara\u00eet plus ridicule que second degr\u00e9 tant son personnage est inutile \u00e0 l\u2019intrigue telle une pi\u00e8ce rapport\u00e9e uniquement en vue d\u2019autres films \u00e0 venir.<\/p><p>En revanche, les bribes de l\u2019histoire personnelle de Kara sont beaucoup plus prenantes et offrent enfin l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 \u00e0 Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) d\u2019\u00e9toffer sa palette de jeu. Que ce soit la sc\u00e8ne de rencontre avec Clark ou les s\u00e9quences sur Krypton et Argo, ces sc\u00e8nes profitent non seulement d\u2019une langue \u00e9trang\u00e8re (extraterrestre) sous-titr\u00e9e renfor\u00e7ant le c\u00f4t\u00e9 <em>galaxie lointaine tr\u00e8s lointaine<\/em>, et nous plongent dans un trauma d\u2019adieu adolescent qui a un fort potentiel malheureusement sous exploit\u00e9.<\/p><p>Si au final ce \u00ab\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0\u00bb manque donc cruellement sa cible, il faut dire que si la mission de Craig Gillespie (Moi, Tonya\u00a0; Dumb Money\u00a0; Cruella) \u00e9tait de poursuivre le style du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent opus dans une dimension quelque peu plus cosmique, la mission reste relativement remplie mais accouche par cons\u00e9quent d\u2019un d\u00e9but d\u2019univers qui cimente de plus en plus sa futilit\u00e9. Gillespie aurait-il alors trop cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 imiter le style James Gunn\u00a0? Ce qui est s\u00fbr, c\u2019est que pour un r\u00e9alisateur qui change de genre \u00e0 chaque film, il faut applaudir un tel \u00e9clectisme, mais regretter que son nouveau film s\u2019impose facilement comme son plus faible. Mais les deux films (cf. After a first installment featuring the most famous superhero in the <em>DC<\/em> library, he\u2019s chosen to let a lesser-known character expand the universe through this second film, which centers on a female character and a family member of Clark Kent to tie everything together. And even though it was directed by someone else, James Gunn\u2019s touch is clearly evident in this new installment, which ventures into the realm of space opera, with a sci-fi style that lands somewhere between \u2013 obviously \u2013 \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d and \u201cStar Trek\u201d in terms of the look of the alien species, the locations, and the overall atmosphere. While the plot remains very simplistic and childish, very much consistent with the continuity of this universe, it\u2019s clear that even though exploring the vastness of the universe in the second installment after establishing its tone is a pretty good idea, this new <em>DC<\/em> universe definitely didn\u2019t start out on very solid ground\u2026<\/p><p>The underlying message is thought-provoking, showing that young girls can be fully themselves\u2014with all their flaws and faults\u2014and still be heroes. It demonstrates that these two aspects are not mutually exclusive, and that facing difficulties in life does not necessarily prevent one from succeeding. The subtext here highlights the strength of vulnerability and the power of humanity in a plot where being a heroine doesn\u2019t necessarily mean saving the world, but rather saving oneself. Whatever<\/em>), this \u201cSupergirl\u201d brings to life an excellent idea \u2013 that of a superhero figure who is uninterested in her superhero calling \u2013 which, unfortunately, isn\u2019t properly utilized in a film weighed down by its empty, black-and-white characters and plotlines that are inherently uninteresting, ultimately making it far duller than fun despite its relatively short runtime.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29558 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6539-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>But beyond this interesting, untapped premise, it\u2019s above all a very uneven film whose main storyline turns out to be far less compelling than its flashbacks, which are dedicated to intimate character insights. The main storyline thus turns out to be more about Ruthye than Kara (aka Supergirl) \u2013 in a way reminiscent of \u201cTrue Grit\u201d \u2013 which isn\u2019t a problem in itself, since the film can certainly follow two teenage girls rather than focusing exclusively on the superheroine on her (depressive) bar crawl, but this other character on whom the entire main plot rests would really need to be further developed. As it stands, we\u2019re left with absolutely no nuanced or even remotely intriguing characters, from these anonymous, generic bandits \u2013 whose leader, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, has absolutely nothing to offer except a hideous costume \u2013 to that unlikely ally played by Jason Momoa, whose over-the-top performance comes across as more ridiculous than tongue-in-cheek, given how utterly useless his character is to the plot \u2013 like an afterthought included solely for the sake of future films.<\/p><p>In contrast, the glimpses into Kara\u2019s personal history are much more compelling and finally give Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) the opportunity to flesh out her acting range. Whether it\u2019s the scene where she meets Clark or the sequences set on Krypton and Argo, these scenes not only benefit from a subtitled foreign (extraterrestrial) language that enhances the <em>far, far away galaxy<\/em> feel, but also immerse us in the trauma of a teenage farewell \u2013 a theme with strong potential that is, unfortunately, largely underutilized.<\/p><p>So, while this \u201cSupergirl\u201d ultimately falls short by a few miles, it\u2019s fair to say that if Craig Gillespie\u2019s (I, Tonya; Dumb Money; Cruella) mission was to carry forward the style of the previous installment into a slightly more cosmic dimension, he\u2019s largely achieved that goal \u2013 but the result is the birth of a universe whose emptiness is becoming increasingly apparent. Did Gillespie try too hard to imitate James Gunn\u2019s style? One thing is for sure: for a director who switches genres with every film, such versatility deserves praise, but it\u2019s a shame that his latest film easily stands out as his weakest.
