Cette mol\u00e9cule est depuis l\u2019un des principaux substituts du sucre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale. Elle donne aussi son nom \u00e0 ce film d\u2019horreur australien r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Natalie Erika James \u2013 qui a puis\u00e9 dans ses propres souvenirs et traumas afin de cr\u00e9er ce long-m\u00e9trage \u00e9tonnant.<\/p><p>Fusionnant le body horror et le surnaturel, mais invoquant aussi des angoisses personnelles et des sujets de soci\u00e9t\u00e9, \u00ab Saccharine \u00bb prend de fait une trajectoire inattendue d\u00e8s ses premi\u00e8res minutes. Le ton g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du film, assez d\u00e9cal\u00e9 et presque anti-conformiste, oscille par cons\u00e9quent entre le dramatique, le cauchemardesque et l\u2019absurde \u2013 quitte \u00e0 infuser un peu de confusion sur la nature des hantises qui troublent l\u2019h\u00e9ro\u00efne.<\/p><p>Cette derni\u00e8re, justement, pr\u00e9nomm\u00e9e Hana, est une \u00e9tudiante en m\u00e9decine qui cherche \u00e0 perdre du poids. Un chou\u00efa entich\u00e9e par une influenceuse <em>fitness<\/em>, elle se met donc au sport, mais \u00e7a ne suffit pas ; jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019elle entende parler d\u2019une pilule miracle (qu\u2019elle parvient \u00e0 reproduire elle-m\u00eame) aux r\u00e9sultats impressionnants mais aux effets ind\u00e9sirables emb\u00eatants.<\/p><p>Hana ne parvient pas \u00e0 calmer sa boulimie aux \u00e9pisodes gargantuesques \u2013 aliment\u00e9e elle-m\u00eame par la honte de son propre reflet face aux sempiternels standards de beaut\u00e9 et de corpulence \u2013 et se retrouve ainsi prisonni\u00e8re (psychiquement comme paranormalement) d\u2019une addiction \u00e0 la fois vitale et mortif\u00e8re : la nourriture.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28918 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6409.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6409.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6409-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6409-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Snapshot_6409-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u00ab Saccharine \u00bb pr\u00e9sente ainsi la bouffe comme une drogue motrice de d\u00e9sir et de plaisir, mais aussi de frustration immense lorsqu\u2019elle s\u2019oppose aux injonctions soci\u00e9tales qui imposent un contr\u00f4le des corps. Since then, this molecule has been one of the world\u2019s leading sugar substitutes. It also lends its name to this Australian horror film directed by Natalie Erika James \u2013 who drew on her own memories and traumas to craft this astonishing motion picture.<\/p><p>Blending body horror with the supernatural, while also exploring personal anxieties and social issues, \u201cSaccharine\u201d takes an unexpected turn right from the opening minutes. The film\u2019s overall tone \u2013 quite quirky and almost nonconformist \u2013 therefore switches between the dramatic, the nightmarish, and the absurd \u2013 even if it means creating a bit of confusion about the nature of the fears that plague the heroine.<\/p><p>Hana, as it happens, is a medical student trying to lose weight. Slightly smitten by a fitness influencer, she starts working out, but that isn\u2019t enough \u2013 until she hears about a miracle pill (which she manages to recreate herself) that delivers impressive results but comes with annoying side effects.<\/p><p>Hana is unable to overcome her binge-eating episodes \u2013 fueled by the shame she feels when she sees her own reflection in the face of the never-ending standards of beauty and body image \u2013 and thus finds herself trapped (both psychologically and paranormally) in an addiction that is both vital and deadly: food.<\/p><p>\u201cSaccharine\u201d thus depicts food as a drug that fuels desire and pleasure, but also immense frustration when it clashes with societal norms that impose control over the body. However, the crises and deprivations that Hana inflicts on herself (and which, moreover, stem from two extreme family situations) are not without consequences: neither for her, as she grows dangerously thin, nor for her loved ones, who no longer recognize her and literally watch her waste away, obsessed with her body, which has become a mere shadow of its former self.<\/p><p>Hana\u2019s story \u2013 admittedly imagined within an innovative horror framework \u2013 thus offers a unique reflection on our relationship with appearances and on the terrifyingly trivialized dangers of eating disorders \u2013 which are now often hidden in the overconsumption of only moderately effective medications, in the excessive pursuit of physical activity, or in the submission to restrictive orthorexia, all three of which reflect a profound sense of unease that is difficult to treat in a world of facades.<\/p><p>Axel
