Depuis, la saga n\u2019a cess\u00e9 d\u2019interroger ce que signifie \u00eatre un jouet face aux diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tapes de l\u2019enfance : le remplacement (dans le 1), l\u2019abandon (le 2), l\u2019acceptation de la s\u00e9paration (le 3), puis l\u2019identit\u00e9 m\u00eame du jouet avec \u00ab Toy Story 4 \u00bb. Cette cinqui\u00e8me aventure poursuit intelligemment cette r\u00e9flexion en posant une question profond\u00e9ment contemporaine : que devient un jouet dans une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019enfants qui grandit d\u00e9sormais avec une tablette entre les mains ?<\/p><p>L\u2019id\u00e9e est tout simplement excellente. Sans jamais opposer b\u00eatement technologie et jouets traditionnels, <em>Pixar<\/em>\u00a0utilise l\u2019arriv\u00e9e des \u00e9crans dans le quotidien des plus jeunes pour questionner l\u2019\u00e9volution du fait de jouer, de l\u2019imagination et m\u00eame de l\u2019amiti\u00e9. La tablette n\u2019est jamais r\u00e9duite au rang de m\u00e9chant pur et dur, elle devient plut\u00f4t le symbole d\u2019une fascination soigneusement fabriqu\u00e9e et d\u2019une mani\u00e8re nouvelle de cr\u00e9er (ou parfois d&rsquo;appauvrir) les relations humaines. Les r\u00e9seaux sociaux trouvent ainsi une place \u00e9tonnamment pertinente dans ce r\u00e9cit, en montrant comment ils peuvent acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer certaines dynamiques de groupe pouvant enfermer les enfants dans une forme de d\u00e9pendance permanente \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cran.<\/p><p>Si \u00ab Toy Story 4 \u00bb venait conclure l\u2019histoire sp\u00e9cifiquement de Woody \u00e0 travers une dynamique plus intime et moins chorale, c\u2019est au tour de Jessie la cowgirl d\u2019\u00eatre au centre de l\u2019intrigue de ce nouvel opus. Une belle id\u00e9e dans une franchise o\u00f9 elle peut offrir une perspective diff\u00e9rente jusque-l\u00e0 rel\u00e9gu\u00e9e au second plan mais qui souligne aussi le plus gros reproche que l\u2019on pourrait faire \u00e0 ce cinqui\u00e8me volet : ne pas avoir os\u00e9 faire le film sans Woody (et Buzz dans une moindre mesure). Car oui, <em>Pixar<\/em> leur consacre encore beaucoup de temps \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran dans une intrigue o\u00f9 ils sont d\u00e9sormais bien secondaires, leur histoire respective \u00e9tant d\u00e9j\u00e0 achev\u00e9e. A l&rsquo;inverse, la trame secondaire autour des Buzz 2.0 appara\u00eet d\u2019abord d\u00e9connect\u00e9e de l\u2019intrigue mais r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 retrouver le fil conducteur de mani\u00e8re r\u00e9jouissante. Malgr\u00e9 une introduction un peu laborieuse, la trame progresse efficacement vers une seconde partie plus forte et \u00e9mouvante sur des jouets qui ne doivent plus seulement s\u2019adapter \u00e0 la situation, aux nouveaux arrivants ou \u00e0 leurs nouveaux propri\u00e9taires mais cherchent d\u00e9sormais aussi \u00e0 leur montrer \u00e0 quel point ils ont tort. Peut-on r\u00e9ellement se faire des amis en passant ses journ\u00e9es \u00e0 faire d\u00e9filer un \u00e9cran\u00a0? Une question qui doit tarauder de nombreux parents et importer pour beaucoup d\u2019enfants tant l\u2019amiti\u00e9 est la seule forme de sentiment susceptible de toujours \u00eatre l\u00e0 o\u00f9 on l\u2019a laiss\u00e9 la derni\u00e8re fois.<\/p><p>S\u2019il est d\u00e9sormais impossible pour la saga d\u2019atteindre les sommets de la trilogie originale, ce \u00ab\u00a0Toy Story 5\u00a0\u00bb va n\u00e9anmoins bien au-del\u00e0 de la suite nostalgique et prouve que les \u00e9quipes de <em>Pixar<\/em> parviennent \u00e0 conjuguer film d\u2019aventure et critique de nos d\u00e9pendances au num\u00e9rique. Since then, the franchise has continually explored what it means to be a toy as children go through the different stages of childhood: replacement (in Toy Story 1), abandonment (in Toy Story 2), acceptance of separation (in Toy Story 3), and finally, the very identity of what a toy is in \u201cToy Story 4\u201d. This fifth adventure cleverly continues this exploration by posing a profoundly contemporary question: what becomes of a toy in a generation of children who are now growing up with a tablet in their hands?<\/p><p>The idea is simply brilliant. Without ever simplistically pitting technology against traditional toys, <em>Pixar<\/em> uses the arrival of screens in young children\u2019s daily lives to explore the evolution of play, imagination, and even friendship. The tablet is never reduced to the role of a purely evil villain; rather, it becomes a symbol of a carefully crafted obsession and a new way of creating \u2013 or sometimes undermining \u2013 human relationships. Social media thus finds a surprisingly relevant role in this story, illustrating how it can accelerate certain group dynamics that can trap children in a form of constant screen dependency.<\/p><p>While \u201cToy Story 4\u201d wrapped up Woody\u2019s specific story through a more intimate, less ensemble-driven narrative, it\u2019s now cowgirl Jessie\u2019s turn to take front and center in the plot of this new installment. It\u2019s a great idea in a franchise where she can offer a different perspective \u2013 one that had previously been overshadowed \u2013 but it also highlights the biggest flaw in this fifth installment: it didn\u2019t dare to make the film without Woody (and Buzz, to a lesser extent). The fact is, <em>Pixar<\/em> still devotes a lot of screen time to them in a plot where they\u2019re now clearly supporting characters, since their respective stories have already been wrapped up. Conversely, the subplot centered on the Buzz 2.0 characters initially seems disconnected from the main plot but manages to reconnect with the main server in a delightful way. Despite a somewhat clumsy introduction, the plot moves effectively toward a stronger and more moving second half, in which toys must no longer simply adapt to the situation, to newcomers, or to their new owners, but now also seek to show the kids just how wrong they are. Can you really make friends by spending your days scrolling through a screen?
