Face \u00e0 la page blanche et \u00e0 la peur d\u2019\u00e9crire un mauvais film, il va puiser son inspiration dans le malheur soudain de sa proche collaboratrice. Le film alterne alors une double mise en ab\u00eeme, o\u00f9 Raul et le personnage f\u00e9minin de Elsa existent alors comme un double \u2018Je\u2019.<\/p><p>Pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 en comp\u00e9tition officielle au Festival de Cannes, le nouveau film d&rsquo;Almod\u00f3var d\u00e9\u00e7oit dans son incapacit\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer un r\u00e9cit. Un film dont le m\u00e9canisme narratif supplante tout le reste. Un nouveau film dont on questionne l&rsquo;utilit\u00e9 tant il se roule dans un vide sc\u00e9naristique \u00e9tonnant o\u00f9 les personnages sont bien trop lisses et ne se d\u00e9couvrent qu&rsquo;en surface.<\/p><p>On peut tout de m\u00eame souligner l&rsquo;exercice remarquable de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe d\u00e9co. Un travail toujours aussi \u00e9l\u00e9gant, mais qui s&rsquo;apparente maintenant plus \u00e0 une signature d&rsquo;architecte d&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur qu&rsquo;\u00e0 un d\u00e9cor de cin\u00e9ma au service du r\u00e9cit.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Autofiction\u00a0\u00bb est, comme son nom l&rsquo;indique, un r\u00e9cit au nombrilisme \u00e9trange dont on questionne l&rsquo;utilit\u00e9 face au merveilleux \u00ab\u00a0Dolor y Gloria\u00a0\u00bb et \u00e0 sa grandeur narrative et visuelle. Bien loin \u00e9galement d&rsquo;un \u00ab\u00a0Madres paralelas\u00a0\u00bb au discours politique incarn\u00e9, \u00ab\u00a0Autofiction\u00a0\u00bb semble n\u2019\u00eatre qu\u2019un assemblage de sayn\u00e8tes au proc\u00e9d\u00e9 d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu. Faced with writer\u2019s block and the fear of writing a bad film, he draws inspiration from the sudden misfortune of his close female collaborator. The film then alternates between a double <em>mise en ab\u00eeme<\/em>, in which Raul and the female character Elsa coexist as a dual first-person narrative.<\/p><p>Presented in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Almod\u00f3var\u2019s new film disappoints in its inability to unfold a narrative. It is a film in which the narrative structure overshadows everything else. A new film whose purpose is questionable, as it gets bogged down in a surprising scriptural void where the characters are far too one-dimensional and remain superficial.<\/p><p>Still, the set design team\u2019s remarkable work deserves mention. Their work remains as elegant as ever, but now feels more like the signature style of an interior designer than a film set designed to serve the narrative.<\/p><p>\u201cBitter Christmas\u201d is, as its French title suggests (Autofiction), a strangely self-absorbed story whose purpose is questionable when compared to the marvelous \u201cDolor y Gloria\u201d in all its narrative and visual excellence. A far cry as well from \u201cMadres paralelas\u201d with its embodied political discourse, \u201cBitter Christmas\u201d seems to be nothing more than a collection of sketches using a formula we\u2019ve seen time and time before. This is a film lacking in passion and full of clumsy storytelling.<\/p><p>Sacha
