Alors qu\u2019elle br\u00fble de retourner sur le terrain, la direction pr\u00e9f\u00e8re la charger de former une prometteuse recrue pour faire la liaison avec la DGSI lui laissant peu de man\u0153uvre pour enqu\u00eater en douce sur les \u00e9tonnantes circonstances de l\u2019\u00e9chec de sa mission au Sahel \u2026 Quelque part entre \u00ab Le Bureau des L\u00e9gendes \u00bb, \u00ab Les Patriotes \u00bb (\u00e9galement) d\u2019\u00c9ric Rochant ou \u00ab Les Trois Jours du Condor \u00bb de Sydney Pollack, \u00ab Mata \u00bb nous embarque dans un vrai jeu de dupes qui n\u2019emprunte ni \u00e0 James Bond ni \u00e0 James Le Carr\u00e9. Assez original dans le paysage cin\u00e9matographique fran\u00e7ais, ce thriller d\u2019espionnage au f\u00e9minin plut\u00f4t anti-spectaculaire, d\u00e9veloppe une enqu\u00eate absolument passionnante, bien plus int\u00e9ress\u00e9e par la psych\u00e9 de sa protagoniste que par l\u2019accumulation de sc\u00e8nes d\u2019action.<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Mon L\u00e9gionnaire\u00a0\u00bb (2021), long m\u00e9trage document\u00e9 sur l\u2019arm\u00e9e appr\u00e9hend\u00e9e \u00e0 hauteur du couple, la sc\u00e9nariste et r\u00e9alisatrice Rachel Lang continue d\u2019ausculter le milieu militaire en explorant les \u00e9motions de ces soldats de l\u2019ombre. Cette ex-l\u00e9gionnaire et membre de la r\u00e9serve op\u00e9rationnelle de l\u2019arm\u00e9e de terre depuis plus de vingt ans tire ainsi de son exp\u00e9rience personnelle pour soulever habilement des enjeux \u00e0 la fois personnels et g\u00e9opolitiques dans un polar psychologique o\u00f9 l\u2019action est avant tout bureaucratique au gr\u00e9 de quelques surveillances atones qui installent un \u00e9trange fatalisme dans un faux-calme finalement et \u00e9tonnamment mena\u00e7ant. Interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e avec conviction par Eye Ha\u00efdara (aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des tr\u00e8s justes Jos\u00e9phine Japy et Rapha\u00ebl Personnaz), c\u2019est l\u2019introspection d\u2019une femme obstin\u00e9e et taiseuse qui ne montre jamais qu\u2019elle craque bien qu\u2019elle s\u2019aventure peu \u00e0 peu dans un labyrinthe de parano\u00efa \u2013 d\u2019o\u00f9 le choix de cette sc\u00e8ne dans la p\u00e9nombre o\u00f9 elle est entour\u00e9e de sup\u00e9rieurs silencieux face \u00e0 son r\u00e9cit et ses questions comme plan d\u2019ouverture installant imm\u00e9diatement un doute ambiant.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28246 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Snapshot_6254.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Snapshot_6254.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Snapshot_6254-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Snapshot_6254-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Snapshot_6254-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>D\u2019une grande ma\u00eetrise dans sa mise en sc\u00e8ne et son sc\u00e9nario, \u00ab\u00a0Mata\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose comme un film d\u2019espionnage tr\u00e8s abouti jusque dans un nom de protagoniste qui donne son titre au film et fait \u00e0 la fois r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 Mata Hari (fusill\u00e9e pour espionnage pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale) et sert de pseudonyme tranchant caract\u00e9risant parfaitement les risques du m\u00e9tier (dans sa traduction espagnole \u00ab\u00a0tue\u00a0\u00bb). Dans un \u00e9talonnage froid et une musique angoissante de Yuksek (Les Fant\u00f4mes), la r\u00e9alisation sophistiqu\u00e9e joue des ombres et des reflets pour d\u00e9velopper son intrigue dans deux mondes distincts mais parall\u00e8les, ceux de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 (ext\u00e9rieure &amp; int\u00e9rieure) et montrer comment les services se servent les uns des autres. Le contraste entre la DGSE et la DGSI est ainsi frappant dans des d\u00e9cors tr\u00e8s antinomiques, souterrains et t\u00e9n\u00e9breux dans un style de bunker lugubre et militaire pour les uns, et dans les hauteurs des bureaux d\u2019une tour moderne de Paris observant la ville dont les nombreuses vitres font entrer la lumi\u00e8re pour les autres.<\/p><p>Plus un film d\u2019enqu\u00eate que d\u2019infiltration, cet excellent polar d\u2019espionnage interroge la notion de v\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans une troublante et introspective intrigue sur un maillon d\u2019une grande cha\u00eene qui d\u00e9passe de loin notre protagoniste et donc notre horizon (sans vision globale de la situation). En somme, c\u2019est un thriller haletant et r\u00e9aliste sur l\u2019illusion de contr\u00f4le, sur ce sentiment persistant d\u2019impuissance qui pousse \u00e0 la d\u00e9ception, la suspicion et la m\u00e9fiance. Though she is eager to get back in the field, her superiors instead assign her the task of training a promising recruit to serve as a liaison officer with the DGSI, leaving her little room to quietly investigate the surprising circumstances surrounding the failure of her mission in the Sahel\u2026 Somewhere between \u00c9ric Rochant\u2019s \u201cLe Bureau des L\u00e9gendes\u201d and \u201cLes Patriotes\u201d or Sydney Pollack\u2019s \u201cThree Days of the Condor\u201d, \u201cMata\u201d takes us on a true game of deception that borrows from neither James Bond nor James Le Carr\u00e9. Quite original in the French film industry, this rather unspectacular female-led spy thriller unfolds an absolutely gripping investigation, far more interested in the protagonist\u2019s psyche than in a succession of action scenes.<\/p><p>After \u201cMon L\u00e9gionnaire\u201d (2021), a very documented film that examined the military through the lens of a couple\u2019s relationship, screenwriter and director Rachel Lang continues to dissect the military world by exploring the emotions of these soldiers of the shadows. This former legionnaire and member of the Army\u2019s operational reserve for over twenty years draws on her personal experience to skillfully raise both personal and geopolitical issues in a psychological thriller where the action is primarily bureaucratic, unfolding through a series of lackluster surveillance scenes that instill a strange fatalism in a false calm that is ultimately and surprisingly threatening. Convincingly portrayed by Eye Ha\u00efdara (alongside the spot-on performances of Jos\u00e9phine Japy and Rapha\u00ebl Personnaz), this is the introspection of a stubborn, secretive woman who never shows that she is breaking down, even as she gradually ventures into a maze of paranoia \u2013 hence the choice of this opening scene in the dim light, where she is surrounded by silent superiors as she recounts her story and asks her questions, immediately establishing a sense of doubt.<\/p><p>With masterful direction and screenwriting, \u201cMata\u201d stands out as a highly accomplished spy film, right down to the protagonist\u2019s name \u2013 which lends the film its title and references both Mata Hari (executed for espionage during World War I) and serves as a stark nickname that perfectly captures the risks of the profession (in Spanish, \u201cmata\u201d means \u201ckills\u201d). With a cool color grading and the unsettling music of Yuksek (Les Fant\u00f4mes), the sophisticated direction plays with shadows and reflections to unfold its plot across two distinct yet parallel worlds \u2013 those of national security (foreign and domestic) \u2013 and to show how the agencies exploit each other. The contrast between the DGSE and the DGSI is thus striking in starkly opposing settings: underground and gloomy, in a grim, military bunker-style for the former, and high up in the offices of a modern Parisian tower overlooking the city, with light streaming in through its many windows, for the latter.<\/p><p>More of a detective story than an undercover thriller, this excellent spy film questions the notion of truth in a disturbing and introspective plot about a single link in a vast chain that far exceeds our protagonist\u2019s \u2013 and thus our own \u2013 horizon (without a comprehensive view of the situation). In short, it is a gripping and realistic thriller about the illusion of control, about that persistent feeling of powerlessness that leads to disappointment, suspicion, and mistrust. As if the entire film ultimately had no bearing on the case that Mata has been pursuing all along?<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
