cin\u00e9matographique de la figure monstrueuse de la Momie \u2013 apparue pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 1932 sous la franchise <em>Universal Monsters<\/em> \u2013, Lee Cronin signe un film d\u2019horreur multilingue (chose rarissime \u00e0 Hollywood) dont l\u2019intrigue fait des allers-retours entre deux contr\u00e9es arides et d\u00e9sertiques : l\u2019\u00c9gypte et le Nouveau-Mexique. Dans cet opus, Katie, une jeune fille ayant myst\u00e9rieusement disparu au Caire r\u00e9appara\u00eet tout aussi myst\u00e9rieusement huit ans plus tard, \u00ab momifi\u00e9e \u00bb dans un sarcophage. Et, bien s\u00fbr, son retour dans sa famille \u00e0 Albuquerque s\u2019accompagne d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e8nements effrayants.<\/p><p>Construite comme une enqu\u00eate \u2013 d\u2019o\u00f9 la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019une flic cairote (May Calamawy) et d\u2019un reporter am\u00e9ricain (Jack Reynor) \u2013, l\u2019intrigue monte en intensit\u00e9 en m\u00eame temps que se multiplient les sc\u00e8nes d\u2019\u00e9pouvante et les r\u00e9v\u00e9lations sur ce qu\u2019a r\u00e9ellement subi Katie. Comme dans \u00ab Evil Dead Rise \u00bb, Lee Cronin ne l\u00e9sine pas sur le crade, le gore et l\u2019excellent maquillage de l\u2019abomination qui maltraite et terrorise ses personnages, sans pour autant minimiser l\u2019int\u00e9ressante mythologie \u00e9sot\u00e9rique au c\u0153ur des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de l\u2019histoire \u2013 le film durant plus de deux heures !<\/p><p>Les protagonistes et le sc\u00e9nario sont ainsi un peu plus d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019accoutum\u00e9e, mais le tout demeure <em>mainstream<\/em> et, comme souvent, constitue plus un divertissement qu\u2019une r\u00e9flexion sur, dans ce cas pr\u00e9cis, le deuil, la famille et l\u2019h\u00e9ritage. In this installment, Katie, a young girl who mysteriously disappeared in Cairo, reappears just as mysteriously eight years later, \u201cmummified\u201d inside a sarcophagus. And, of course, her return to her family in Albuquerque comes with a series of terrifying events.<\/p><p>Built like a police investigation \u2013 hence the presence of a Cairo policewoman (May Calamawy) and an American reporter (Jack Reynor) \u2013 the plot ramps up in intensity as the horror scenes and revelations about what Katie actually went through unfold. As in \u201cEvil Dead Rise,\u201d Lee Cronin doesn\u2019t hold back on the filth, the gore, and the excellent makeup of the abomination that abuses and terrorizes his characters, without downplaying the intriguing esoteric mythology at the heart of the story\u2019s phenomena \u2013 the film clocking in at over two hours!<\/p><p>The characters and the plot are thus a bit more developed than usual, but the film remains mainstream and, as is often the case, serves more as entertainment than as a commentary on, in this particular instance, grief, family, and legacy. This horror film remains enjoyable and entertaining; it might even awaken \u2013 not a mummy, but an interest in ancient Egypt and hieratic writing for the most curious among us!<\/p><p>Axel
