Une sc\u00e8ne, des regards, d\u00e9j\u00e0 des tensions sous-jacentes \u2014 comme si d\u00e9j\u00e0 quelque chose clochait dans cet apparent succ\u00e8s. Puis survient cette \u00ab lettre jaune \u00bb, d\u2019abord pour Aziz, professeur et dramaturge \u00e0 Ankara, puis pour son \u00e9pouse com\u00e9dienne. Une simple feuille administrative, mais dont le poids est vertigineux : celui d\u2019une condamnation sans bruit, d\u2019une mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart sans violence apparente. Apr\u00e8s le coup d\u2019\u00c9tat de 2016, la Turquie a orchestr\u00e9 des purges massives dans les milieux intellectuels et artistiques, contraignant nombre d\u2019artistes \u00e0 jouer un r\u00f4le apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 licenci\u00e9s, mais non plus sur sc\u00e8ne (o\u00f9 ils \u00e9taient eux-m\u00eames) mais cette fois sur la sc\u00e8ne publique dans un r\u00f4le de conformit\u00e9, de leurs relations personnelles \u00e0 leurs r\u00e9seaux sociaux, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la mosqu\u00e9e. C\u2019est dans ce contexte qu\u2019Ilker \u00c7atak inscrit son r\u00e9cit. Non pas en montrant la terreur frontalement, mais en captant ce poison lent : celui de l\u2019effacement social, de l\u2019attente interminable, des compromis qui s\u2019installent et fissurent peu \u00e0 peu les \u00eatres.<\/p><p>Car \u00ab Yellow Letters \u00bb n\u2019est pas tant un film politique au sens classique qu\u2019un drame intime sur les r\u00e9percussions de l\u2019autoritarisme. Contraints de quitter Ankara pour Istanbul, le couple tente de recomposer une existence entre pr\u00e9carit\u00e9 et fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 \u00e0 leurs id\u00e9aux. Tr\u00e8s vite, le film glisse du constat social vers une exploration plus trouble : que reste-t-il d\u2019un engagement quand il menace ce que l\u2019on a de plus proche ? La famille devient alors le v\u00e9ritable terrain de bataille. Entre reproches larv\u00e9s, silences et choix divergents, chacun projette sur l\u2019autre la responsabilit\u00e9 de leur chute. Et c\u2019est l\u00e0 que le film trouve sa justesse : dans cette ind\u00e9termination des causes, dans ces motifs flous \u2013 un propos trop politique dans la pi\u00e8ce, une prise de position sur les r\u00e9seaux, un geste de trop, une incitation indirecte \u2013 sugg\u00e9r\u00e9s pour que le mari comme la femme puissent se reprocher le poids de la situation, tout comme rejeter la faute sur l\u2019autre.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27334 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6039.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6039.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6039-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6039-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6039-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Le choix de tourner en Allemagne, avec Berlin et Hambourg \u00ab jouant \u00bb litt\u00e9ralement le r\u00f4le d\u2019Ankara et d\u2019Istanbul, d\u00e9passe la simple contrainte de production. Il installe une distance, presque un trouble, qui \u00e9largit le propos. Ce subtil choix de mise en sc\u00e8ne \u2013 ne faisant qu\u2019\u00e9noncer le d\u00e9placement des lieux \u2013 fait non seulement \u00e9cho aux propos du film mais refl\u00e8te aussi une situation similaire en Allemagne o\u00f9 le d\u00e9bat universitaire et artistique sur Isra\u00ebl et la Palestine a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s controvers\u00e9. Ce qui se joue ici n\u2019est soudain plus uniquement \u201cl\u00e0-bas\u201d. Et la r\u00e9alisation joue de ce choix sc\u00e9nique comme un contrat qu\u2019elle passe avec son spectateur en laissant des inscriptions en allemand sur les murs et dans le cadre. \u00c0 l\u2019heure o\u00f9 les d\u00e9bats sur la libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression traversent aussi l\u2019Europe, le film agit ainsi comme un miroir discret mais tenace et rend sa situation plus universelle qu\u2019il n\u2019y para\u00eet.<\/p><p>Port\u00e9 par deux interpr\u00e8tes remarquables \u2013 dont ces r\u00f4les font preuve de leur courage \u2013 \u00d6zg\u00fc Namal et Tansu Bi\u00e7er, le film impressionne par la qualit\u00e9 de ses dialogues et la finesse de son \u00e9criture. Si sa trajectoire peut parfois sembler relativement balis\u00e9e, elle n\u2019en reste pas moins d\u2019une efficacit\u00e9 redoutable, notamment dans un dernier tiers qui resserre l\u2019\u00e9tau jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une forme d\u2019\u00e9puisement moral. Moins tendu que \u00ab\u00a0La Salle des profs\u00a0\u00bb, mais peut-\u00eatre plus ample dans ses r\u00e9sonances, \u00ab\u00a0Yellow Letters\u00a0\u00bb interroge la place de l\u2019artiste dans la cit\u00e9 : doit-il r\u00e9sister, se taire, ou jouer un r\u00f4le ? Au fond, que reste-t-il de nous lorsque nos id\u00e9es deviennent un danger\u00a0? Et \u00e0 quel point notre id\u00e9al peut-il bouleverser nos relations\u00a0lorsque nos choix nous entra\u00eenent dans une chute silencieuse\u00a0?<\/p><p>Avec cette fois une barri\u00e8re de la langue \u00e0 surmonter, l\u2019\u00e9quipe habituelle d\u2019Ilker \u00c7atak \u2013 dont la directrice de la photographie Judith Kaufmann (La Salle des Profs\u00a0; En Premi\u00e8re Ligne\u00a0; Corsage) compose une atmosph\u00e8re \u00e0 la fois lisse et oppressante dans des cadres d\u2019une grande pr\u00e9cision, des mouvements ma\u00eetris\u00e9s et une palette de couleurs froide \u2013 signe une \u0153uvre \u00e9l\u00e9gante, aboutie et profond\u00e9ment actuelle o\u00f9, sans jamais c\u00e9der au manich\u00e9isme, la r\u00e9sistance ne se mesure pas dans de grands gestes et des choix cruciaux, mais dans l\u2019usure quotidienne des convictions.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42480e6 elementor-widget__width-initial exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42480e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>It all begins amid the uproar of the raving ovation at the end of the premiere of a play at the National Theater in Ankara, attended by the regional governor. A stage, glances, underlying tensions already in the air \u2013 as if something were already amiss in this apparent success. Then comes the \u201cyellow letter\u201d first for Aziz, a professor and playwright in Ankara, and then for his actress wife. A simple administrative document, yet one of staggering implications: that of a silent conviction, of marginalization without overt violence. After the 2016 coup, Turkey orchestrated massive purges in intellectual and artistic circles, forcing many artists to play a role after being fired \u2013 but no longer on stage (where they were themselves) but this time on the public stage in a role of conformity, from their personal relationships to their social media, all the way to the mosque. It is within this context that Ilker \u00c7atak sets his story. Not by showing terror head-on, but by capturing this slow-acting poison: that of social erasure, of endless waiting, of the compromises that take root and gradually crack people\u2019s souls.<\/p><p>For \u201cYellow Letters\u201d is not so much a political film in the traditional sense as an intimate drama about the repercussions of authoritarianism. Forced to leave Ankara for Istanbul, the couple tries to rebuild their lives, caught between precarious circumstances and loyalty to their ideals. Very quickly, the film shifts from social commentary to a more troubling exploration: what remains of a commitment when it threatens what is closest to us? The family then becomes the true battleground. Amid simmering resentments, silences, and divergent choices, each person projects onto the other the blame for their downfall.
