richissime h\u00e9ritage familial, il n\u2019a qu\u2019une seule obsession : venger sa m\u00e8re reni\u00e9e et r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer l\u2019h\u00e9ritage qui lui est d\u00fb. Son probl\u00e8me se r\u00e9sume en soi uniquement aux sept membres de la famille qui le devance dans la lign\u00e9e. La solution est donc on ne peut plus simple : les \u00e9liminer un par un ! A partir de ce postulat s\u00e9duisant (emprunt\u00e9 \u00e0 la satire anglaise de 1949 \u00ab Noblesse Oblige \u00bb) installant d\u2019embl\u00e9e un cadre narratif clair et prometteur, \u00ab L\u2019ultime h\u00e9ritier \u00bb semble r\u00e9unir tous les ingr\u00e9dients pour un r\u00e9cit de succession empoisonn\u00e9e comme il se doit, aussi cruel que jubilatoire.<\/p><p>Le film de John Patton Ford \u2013 apr\u00e8s le tr\u00e8s bon portrait criminalo-social \u00ab\u00a0Emily, The Criminal\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 m\u00eale ici thriller meurtrier et com\u00e9die noire o\u00f9 la tension c\u00f4toie en permanence un sens du d\u00e9calage assez savoureux. Le film trouve rapidement son rythme dans un encha\u00eenement de situations oscillant entre absurdit\u00e9 et suspense, port\u00e9 par un montage dynamique et un sens du timing comique. Les meurtres, souvent inventifs, flirtent avec un burlesque discret sans jamais totalement basculer dans la farce. Cette l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 assum\u00e9e, presque d\u00e9sinvolte, permet au r\u00e9cit de ne jamais se prendre trop au s\u00e9rieux, tout en conservant une certaine coh\u00e9rence dans la trajectoire de son protagoniste.<\/p><p>Mais derri\u00e8re cette m\u00e9canique bien huil\u00e9e se dessine aussi une impression de potentiel sous-exploit\u00e9. \u00c0 trop vouloir \u00e9quilibrer romance, satire et thriller, le sc\u00e9nario reste parfois en surface, notamment dans une critique sociale assez convenue qui n\u2019ose pas s\u2019aventurer plus dans le c\u00f4t\u00e9 sadique \/ comique d\u00e9jant\u00e9. Certes le film opte pour un ton un peu diff\u00e9rent pour se distinguer de son pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseur, mais m\u00eame si l\u2019ensemble reste r\u00e9ussi, il aurait clairement pu approfondir les deux dynamiques suivantes. D\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9, il y a dans la balance le dilemme entre revanche familiale et ultime promesse <em>vs<\/em> une carri\u00e8re en solo r\u00e9ussie au bout d\u2019un certain temps et une idylle romantique tout juste entam\u00e9e. De l\u2019autre, il y a une dimension m\u00e9thodique des meurtres (propre aux jeux \u00ab\u00a0Hitman\u00a0\u00bb) o\u00f9 le film aurait pu passer plus de temps dans le rep\u00e9rage des lieux et des personnages \u00e0 assassiner pour \u00e9chafauder un plan qu\u2019il aurait potentiellement fallu changer en cours de route.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26943 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_5934.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_5934.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_5934-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_5934-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_5934-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Ainsi, en d\u00e9veloppant soit la dimension morale, soit la dimension suspense de son intrigue, le film aurait pu sortir d\u2019une structure assez sch\u00e9matique et faire \u00e9voluer progressivement ses enjeux sans n\u00e9cessairement alourdir un film qui mise aussi beaucoup sur sa dur\u00e9e raisonnable (1h45) et son rythme soutenu \u2013 ou alors approfondir les deux, et assumer un projet plus long, moins dense et divertissant. D\u2019autant que d\u2019un point de vue sc\u00e9naristique, sa structure en <em>flash-forward<\/em> s\u2019av\u00e8re assez contre-productive. Certes, elle permet d\u2019ins\u00e9rer des explications facilement et de passer d\u2019une \u00e9tape \u00e0 l\u2019autre rapidement, mais elle annihile aussi certaines surprises ou aboutissements narratifs pour r\u00e9ellement cr\u00e9er un impact \u00e9motionnel.<\/p><p>N\u00e9anmoins, il n\u2019y a pas de grosses fausses notes, les p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties sont r\u00e9ussies, le montage est rythm\u00e9, l\u2019esth\u00e9tique est soign\u00e9e dans une photographie assez lumineuse et lisse, et un style \u00e9l\u00e9gant presque aseptis\u00e9 qui traduisent de mani\u00e8re coh\u00e9rente un univers domin\u00e9 par l\u2019opulence et les apparences. Les premiers exploits de l\u2019apprenti tueur et la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition des sc\u00e8nes d\u2019enterrement \u2013 o\u00f9 notre protagoniste \u00e9volue progressivement dans la foule \u2013 fonctionnent particuli\u00e8rement bien dans ce style joyeusement absurde dont l\u2019ensemble est port\u00e9 par les interpr\u00e9tations convaincantes d\u2019une Margaret Qualley (The Substance\u00a0; Honey Don\u2019t) qui joue pleinement sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 caricatural de son personnage de femme fatale \u2013 au risque d\u2019\u00eatre en d\u00e9calage avec le reste du film, certains diront qu\u2019elle a mieux saisi le ton de ce qu\u2019il devait \u00eatre \u2026 \u2013, et d\u2019une Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist\u00a0; Glass Onion) comme toujours excellente, qui s\u2019impose comme le v\u00e9ritable c\u0153ur \u00e9motionnel de ce r\u00e9cit au gr\u00e9 d\u2019une alchimie r\u00e9ussie avec un Glen Powell \u00e0 l\u2019aise dans son r\u00f4le de bell\u00e2tre antipathique.<\/p><p>Oscillant entre efficacit\u00e9 ponctuelle et potentiel sous-exploit\u00e9, \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019ultime h\u00e9ritier\u00a0\u00bb offre une s\u00e9ance agr\u00e9able mais loin d\u2019\u00eatre m\u00e9morable ou marquante. With this appealing premise (borrowed from the 1949 English satire \u201cKind Hearts and Coronets\u201d), which immediately establishes a clear and promising narrative setting, \u201cHow to Make a Killing\u201d seems to have all the ingredients for a properly poisonous succession story \u2013 as cruel as it is exhilarating.<\/p><p>John Patton Ford\u2019s film \u2013 following the very good crime-social drama \u201cEmily, The Criminal\u201d \u2013 blends a murderous thriller with black comedy, where tension constantly coexists with a rather delightful sense of incongruity. The film quickly finds its rhythm in a series of situations that swing between absurdity and suspense, driven by dynamic editing and a keen sense of comic timing. The murders, often inventive, flirt with a subtle burlesque without ever fully veering into farce. This self-assured, almost light-hearted tone allows the narrative to never take itself too seriously, while maintaining a certain coherence in the protagonist\u2019s journey.<\/p><p>But behind this finely tuned structure, there\u2019s also a sense of underutilized potential. In its eagerness to balance romance, satire, and thriller elements, the screenplay sometimes remains superficial, particularly in its rather conventional social critique, which doesn\u2019t dare to delve deeper into the sadistic or wildly zany aspects. Admittedly, the film adopts a slightly different tone to set itself apart from its predecessor, but even though the overall result is successful, it could clearly have delved deeper into the following two dynamics. On one hand, there\u2019s the dilemma weighing family revenge and an ultimate promise against a successful solo career after some time and a newly blossoming romantic relationship. Especially since, from a screenwriting perspective, its flash-forward structure proves rather detrimental. While it certainly allows for easy exposition and quick transitions between events, it also undermines certain surprises or narrative resolutions that could have truly created an emotional impact.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, there are no major missteps; the plot twists are well-executed, the editing is brisk, and the visuals are immaculate, featuring bright, smooth cinematography and an elegant, almost sterile style that reflects a world dominated by opulence and superficiality. The apprentice killer\u2019s early exploits and the recurring funeral scenes \u2013 where our protagonist gradually moves through the crowd \u2013 work particularly well in this delightfully absurd style, which is brought to life by the convincing performances of Margaret Qualley (The Substance; Honey Don\u2019t), who fully embraces the cartoonish nature of her femme fatale character \u2013 at the risk of seeming out of sync with the rest of the film; some might say she better grasped the tone it was meant to have\u2026 \u2013 and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist; Glass Onion), who is excellent as always and emerges as the true heart and soul of this story thanks to her great chemistry with Glen Powell, who is perfectly at ease in his role as an unlikable heartthrob.<\/p><p>Alternating between sporadic flashes of brilliance and untapped potential, \u201cHow to Make a Killing\u201d offers an enjoyable viewing experience, though one that is far from memorable or impactful. Following the remake of \u201cThe Running Man,\u201d this marks yet another failure (especially at the box office) for the actor who seemed poised to become Hollywood\u2019s new breakout star after the successes of \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d \u201cTwisters,\u201d and \u201cHit Man\u201d; likely due in part to rather weak marketing, especially considering that the film was distributed by
