D\u00e8s sa sc\u00e8ne d\u2019introduction, \u00ab Love on Trial \u00bb sugg\u00e8re la m\u00e9canique trouble et malsaine qui s\u00e9vit dans cet univers de la J-Pop : les cinq adolescentes de ce <em>girls band<\/em> v\u00eatues de costumes kawaii dansent en parfaite synchro sur une chor\u00e9graphie m\u00e9tronomique, aussi bien \u00e9pi\u00e9e par leur producteur masculin que par une foule de jeunes hommes agit\u00e9s. Mais la sexualisation de ces jeunes femmes ne s\u2019arr\u00eate pas l\u00e0, une fois le concert termin\u00e9, elles rencontrent leurs fans segment\u00e9s en longues queues o\u00f9 chacun choisit sa chanteuse pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, selon un trait de personnalit\u00e9, un fantasme ou sa couleur pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e. Sans jamais les toucher, ces fans leur exprime leur adoration, leur passion et m\u00eame leur amour. Ces jeunes filles sont des \u2018idoles\u2019 travaillant dans une industrie japonaise du divertissement particuli\u00e8rement codifi\u00e9e et r\u00e9gie par l\u2019ultra-patriarcat de la nation nippone.<\/p><p>Le concept d\u2019idole appara\u00eet au Japon dans les ann\u00e9es 1960 avant de s\u2019ancrer dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et de se r\u00e9pandre en Asie, notamment en Cor\u00e9e du Sud avec l\u2019av\u00e8nement de la K-Pop. Le propre des \u2018idoles\u2019 c\u2019est d\u2019\u00eatre des adolescents \u00e0 l\u2019image gaie, sympathique et innocente. Recrut\u00e9s lors d\u2019auditions organis\u00e9es par des maisons de productions et des agences d\u2019artistes, ces adolescent(e)s re\u00e7oivent une formation au chant, \u00e0 la danse, \u00e0 la com\u00e9die, mais aussi \u00e0 des comp\u00e9tences plus comportementales comme la communication et la m\u00e9diatisation. Puis, au sein d\u2019un groupe savamment orchestr\u00e9 autour de diff\u00e9rents traits de personnalit\u00e9s pour fid\u00e9liser un maximum les fans, elles se produisent sur sc\u00e8nes partout dans le pays au gr\u00e9 de m\u00e9lodies, chor\u00e9graphies et paroles con\u00e7ues par une \u00e9quipe de production dans un style tr\u00e8s codifi\u00e9. Le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne des idoles commercialise ainsi l\u2019image de la femme entre un id\u00e9al de puret\u00e9 et un fantasme de disponibilit\u00e9 qui les soumet \u00e0 de strictes r\u00e8gles contraignant fortement leur vie priv\u00e9e. Bien que le terme soit mixte, les attentes ne sont pas aussi fortes pour les idoles masculines que f\u00e9minines dont les libert\u00e9s sont plus restreintes et la vie plus \u00e9pi\u00e9e. D\u2019autant que leurs carri\u00e8res sont br\u00e8ves, et peuvent \u00eatre an\u00e9anties par un scandale dont la presse \u00e0 c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9s raffole. Pr\u00e9server la r\u00e9putation de puret\u00e9 d\u2019une idole est absolument primordial dans ce syst\u00e8me au point que les tribunaux reconnaissent que \u00ab\u00a0le travail d\u2019une idole consiste uniquement \u00e0 accro\u00eetre sa communaut\u00e9 de fans\u00a0\u00bb. Dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 japonaise fortement domin\u00e9e par les hommes, ces jeunes femmes sont ainsi vues comme des objets de fascination qui refl\u00e8tent la violence sous-jacente de cette soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p><p>K\u014dji Fukada diss\u00e8que ici cette culture singuli\u00e8re des \u2018idoles\u2019 en s\u2019attardant sur cette \u00e9conomie de starification \u00e0 l\u2019exc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e8re des r\u00e9seaux et des <em>streams<\/em>, mais sans pour autant condamner l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019industrie et sans jamais juger ses personnages. Si le sujet aurait pu s\u2019enfoncer dans une \u00e9vidente satire et une critique acerbe, il cherche plut\u00f4t un juste milieu en s\u2019adressant autant \u00e0 un public \u00e9tranger qu\u2019\u00e0 un public ayant baign\u00e9 depuis l\u2019enfance dans ce syst\u00e8me. Pour cela, il ancre \u00e9videmment son r\u00e9cit dans un contexte japonais, mais y insuffle des th\u00e9matiques tr\u00e8s universelles sur l\u2019amour, la solitude et la libert\u00e9, et porte un regard une nouvelle fois intimiste sur ses personnages. \u00ab\u00a0Love on Trial\u00a0\u00bb pose ainsi d\u2019abord tout ce cadre soci\u00e9tal avant de s\u2019engouffrer dans une intrigue m\u00ealant drame amical, romance contrari\u00e9e et r\u00e9cit d\u2019\u00e9mancipation. D\u2019abord entre deux p\u00f4les du monde de l\u2019art japonais, avec d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 les chansons et strat\u00e9gies commerciales impos\u00e9es par les agences des idoles, et de l\u2019autre l\u2019art de rue qui s\u2019autoproduit et d\u00e9pend du public face \u00e0 eux quand les premiers n\u2019alimentent qu\u2019une illusion de proximit\u00e9 avec leur public. C\u2019est la confrontation de deux rapports \u00e0 l\u2019argent et \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation artistique. Deux mondes qui se heurtent. Tout comme lors du second contraste qu\u2019introduit le film entre une premi\u00e8re partie color\u00e9e &amp; musicale aux couleurs chaudes et une seconde rigide &amp; impersonnelle aux tonalit\u00e9s froides.<\/p><p>Le r\u00e9alisateur du d\u00e9licatement cruel \u00ab\u00a0Love Life\u00a0\u00bb insuffle sa tendresse et sa douceur habituelles au gr\u00e9 de longs plans qui laissent s\u2019installer la vie dans un formidable sens du cadre et de magnifiques petites touches de po\u00e9sie favorisant une atmosph\u00e8re feutr\u00e9e et sensible.
