Ils ont tout pour eux, ils sont beaux, ont une carri\u00e8re prometteuse, un bel appartement, tout est mignon et idyllique. Mais \u00e0 quelques jours d\u2019un mariage qui semble une \u00e9vidence pour tous, cette m\u00e9canique bien huil\u00e9e va s\u2019enrayer au d\u00e9tour d\u2019une conversation avec leurs t\u00e9moins. Lorsque chacun r\u00e9v\u00e8le ce qu\u2019il pense avoir fait de pire, la trame prend une tournure inattendue pour s\u2019aventurer dans un conte moral et jouissif. Dans la lign\u00e9e du r\u00e9cent \u00ab Materialists \u00bb, ce nouveau film <em>A24<\/em> d\u00e9construit \u00e0 nouveau la romance en y insufflant une lucidit\u00e9 froide et une r\u00e9flexion contemporaine, mais va au-del\u00e0 du cadre du couple et du mariage pour interroger notre perception \u00e0 l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9 et \u00e0 la responsabilit\u00e9.<\/p><p>Tout part donc d\u2019un postulat de d\u00e9part\u00a0simple : un secret peut-il chambouler un couple\u00a0? Peut-il renverser les perceptions de nos amis et proches\u00a0? Comme dans ses deux pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents films \u00ab\u00a0Sick of Myself\u00a0\u00bb (o\u00f9 une illumin\u00e9e s\u2019inventait une maladie imaginaire pour attirer l\u2019attention) et \u00ab\u00a0Dream Scenario\u00a0\u00bb (o\u00f9 un monsieur-tout-le-monde se retrouvait brusquement dans les r\u00eaves de tout-un-chacun), Kristoffer Borgli explore ici un concept provocateur pour en faire un r\u00e9v\u00e9lateur (inconfortable) de notre \u00e9poque. Bien plus s\u00e9rieuse qu\u2019elle n\u2019y para\u00eet, cette fausse com\u00e9die romantique r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 s\u2019imposer \u00e0 la fois comme un outil d\u2019exploration morale et comme un divertissement r\u00e9ellement s\u00e9duisant.<\/p><p>Port\u00e9 par la superbe alchimie entre les deux stars glamour d\u2019Hollywood du moment (\u00e0 l\u2019affiche ensemble de pas moins de trois gros projets cette ann\u00e9e) avec un Robert Pattinson \u00e9tranger (dans tous les sens du terme) \u00e0 la situation qui l\u2019accable et une impressionnante Zendaya dans son r\u00f4le le plus riche entre vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 et opacit\u00e9, \u00ab\u00a0The Drama\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose comme un grand plaisir de salles nous embarquant continuellement de la romance au comique et des surprises au suspense. Dans une atmosph\u00e8re transmettant le malaise ambiant avec une tr\u00e8s bonne composition (pour seulement trois fl\u00fbtes) de Daniel Pimberton, les spectateurs font le m\u00eame trajet que les personnages. L\u2019absurde y rencontre le grin\u00e7ant, l\u2019amour le fardeau, et la magie l\u2019enfer. L\u2019humour y est vari\u00e9, jouant beaucoup sur la g\u00eane (voir le <em>cringe<\/em> ou la <em>g\u00eanance<\/em> pour certains) mais aussi sur des doubles sens dans les dialogues et les choix des personnages. C\u2019est parfois gros, parfois subtil, tout en posant de bonnes questions, bref c\u2019est un film tr\u00e8s complet qui peut s\u2019adresser \u00e0 un public tr\u00e8s large, d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019il reste tr\u00e8s concis (1h45) dans un rythme soutenu m\u00e9langeant parfaitement les tons.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27205 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6010.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6010.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6010-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6010-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6010-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>En somme, c\u2019est une sombre com\u00e9die finement \u00e9crite et r\u00e9alis\u00e9e dans ce bel \u00e9crin d\u2019un Boston id\u00e9alis\u00e9 et chic, o\u00f9 le montage non-lin\u00e9aire nous expose synth\u00e9tiquement et tr\u00e8s efficacement le parcours du couple en croisant les regards, avant de rapidement r\u00e9v\u00e9ler ce fameux secret chamboulant les apparences et la perception initiale, en nous plongeant dans les introspections, imagination et peurs des deux protagonistes. Au fond, c\u2019est moins la nature du secret que le basculement de perception qu\u2019il provoque qui s\u2019impose comme le v\u00e9ritable sujet du film pour inciter une r\u00e9flexion chez le spectateur. Car limitant les explications autour des motivations du personnage cl\u00e9, le sc\u00e9nario renvoie le public \u00e0 sa propre r\u00e9action primaire, entre tentative de compr\u00e9hension de l\u2019autre, rejet imm\u00e9diat ou dissolution progressive de la perception initiale. Au final, peu importe l\u2019opinion du public sur le sujet de fond ou sur la personne en elle-m\u00eame, l\u2019important est ici de cr\u00e9er ce questionnement.<\/p><p>Bien s\u00fbr, le sujet de fond aurait pu \u00eatre trait\u00e9 plus en profondeur par ce qu\u2019il y a clairement un riche sujet qui se cache sous l\u2019intrigue, que ce soit sous l\u2019angle des motivations ou du contexte social, mais non seulement les pistes de cet approfondissement sont bien pr\u00e9sentes dans l\u2019intrigue, mais ce n\u2019est surtout pas le sujet d\u2019un film dont le rythme et le ton tiennent au dosage entre ses dimensions appr\u00e9ciable, <em>fun<\/em>, et romantique &amp; interrogatrice, <em>dark<\/em>, et \u00e9thique. Il se concentre plut\u00f4t sur le regard des autres, la perception de la douleur plut\u00f4t que la douleur elle-m\u00eame ou ses racines, sur l\u2019\u00e9cho des mots plut\u00f4t que sur leurs cicatrices. Il explore ainsi plus la perception de ce sujet de fond, que le sujet en lui-m\u00eame, dans la mesure o\u00f9 c\u2019est un sujet per\u00e7u diff\u00e9remment en fonction des personnages \u2013 et donc des spectateurs \u2013, en fonction des opinions et des exp\u00e9riences de chacun, ainsi que de leur culture, puisqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019un fait propre \u00e0 la culture am\u00e9ricaine. Or le personnage principal (dont on suit majoritairement le point de vue) vit et travaille depuis des ann\u00e9es aux USA mais n\u2019a pas grandi dans cette culture \u2013 tout comme le sc\u00e9nariste\/r\u00e9alisateur \u2013, il y est donc plus \u00e9tranger que d\u2019autres personnages alt\u00e9rant aussi en partie sa r\u00e9action.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27202 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6007.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6007.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6007-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6007-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Snapshot_6007-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Le cin\u00e9aste norv\u00e9gien interroge en fait le concept m\u00eame de relation \u00e0 l\u2019autre avec des personnages qui manquent finalement d\u2019attention envers la personne qui en aurait besoin, au point de la reculpabiliser plut\u00f4t que de s\u2019attarder sur les m\u00e9canismes d\u2019une invisibilisation sociale et du besoin d\u2019attention. Il y d\u00e9cortique l\u2019hypocrisie d\u2019une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration (voire d\u2019une soci\u00e9t\u00e9) qui d\u2019une part aseptise tout pour ne laisser aucune place \u00e0 de violents fantasmes imm\u00e9diatement pass\u00e9s en jugement, et d\u2019autre part se complique la t\u00e2che primordiale du pardon quand bien-m\u00eame la faute est moindre que d\u2019autres. Et il y introduit un intrigant paradoxe en nous identifiant le plus avec le coupable de la pire id\u00e9e. Contre qui nous positionnons-nous au final\u00a0? Celui qui s\u2019expose ou celui qui juge\u00a0? Celui qui a commis une faute ou celui qui aurait pu faire pire\u00a0? Peut-on d\u2019ailleurs \u00eatre coupable d\u2019une id\u00e9e\u00a0? Ou m\u00eame simplement responsable de l\u2019avoir eu\u00a0? Et une fois ces questionnements introduits, que penser de la personne \u00e0 l\u2019heure d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui\u00a0? Est-on coupable de notre pass\u00e9\u00a0? Peut-on accepter quelqu\u2019un pour ce qu\u2019il est, et non ce qu\u2019il a pu \u00eatre\u00a0? But just days before a wedding that seems like a foregone conclusion to everyone, this well-oiled machine begins to sputter during a conversation with their best man and maid of honor. When each reveals what they believe to be their worst deed, the plot takes an unexpected turn, venturing into a moral and exhilarating tale. In an atmosphere that conveys the underlying unease through a superb score (using only three flutes) by Daniel Pimberton, the audience follows the same path as the characters. The absurd meets the gritty, love meets baggage, and magic meets hell. The humor is multifaceted, often playing on awkwardness (and even cringe) but also on double meanings in the characters\u2019 dialogue and choices. Ultimately, it is less the nature of the secret itself than the shift in perception it triggers that emerges as the film\u2019s true focus, prompting reflection in the viewer. By limiting explanations regarding the key character\u2019s motivations, the screenplay leaves the audience to their own initial reactions\u2014whether attempting to understand the other, immediate rejection, or a gradual dissolution of their initial perception. Ultimately, regardless of the audience\u2019s opinion on the underlying issue or the character themselves, the important thing here is to spark this questioning.<\/p><p>Of course, the underlying theme could have been explored in greater depth, as there is clearly a rich subject matter hidden beneath the plot \u2013 whether in terms of motivations or social context \u2013 but not only are the seeds of this deeper exploration clearly planted in the plot, but above all, this is not the focus of a film whose pace and tone depend on the balance between its various dimensions: enjoyable, fun, romantic and questioning, dark, and ethical. Instead, it focuses on how others see things, on the perception of pain rather than the pain itself or its roots, on the echo of words rather than the scars they leave. The one who exposes themselves or the one who judges? The one who committed a fault or the one who could have done worse? Can one even be guilty of an idea? Or even simply responsible for having had it? And once these questions have been raised, what are we to make of the person today? Are we guilty of our past? Can we accept someone for who they are, and not for who they might have been?
