Lord &amp; Chris Miller n\u2019avaient plus sign\u00e9 de r\u00e9alisations depuis leur com\u00e9die adolescente \u00ab\u00a022 Jump Street\u00a0\u00bb en 2014, ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 ils avaient aussi sign\u00e9 leur premi\u00e8re grande r\u00e9ussite d\u2019animation avec \u00ab\u00a0La Grande Aventure LEGO\u00a0\u00bb avant d\u2019\u00e9crire et produire les excellents films \u00ab\u00a0Spider-Verse\u00a0\u00bb. Apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9chec de leur derni\u00e8re aventure spatiale \u2013 le duo avait d\u2019abord entam\u00e9 la r\u00e9alisation du spin-off Star Wars \u00ab\u00a0Solo\u00a0\u00bb avant d\u2019\u00eatre remplac\u00e9s en plein tournage \u2013 ils repartent dans une galaxie lointaine, tr\u00e8s lointaine avec ce <em>space opera<\/em> particuli\u00e8rement efficace, attachant et <em>feel-good<\/em>. Adapt\u00e9 \u2013 semble-t-il de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s fid\u00e8le \u2013 du roman d\u2019Andy Weir (2021), \u00ab\u00a0Project Hail Mary\u00a0\u00bb prend la forme d\u2019un seul sur sc\u00e8ne sur fond galactique \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0Moon\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Gravity\u00a0\u00bb et surtout \u00ab\u00a0Seul sur Mars\u00a0\u00bb (adapt\u00e9 d\u2019un roman du m\u00eame auteur et par le m\u00eame sc\u00e9nariste). Ryan Golsing porte ainsi v\u00e9ritablement le film en y assurant le spectacle par sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 passer de l\u2019enthousiasme au sarcasme \u00e0 la moindre d\u00e9convenue dans ce voyage \u00e0 travers les \u00e9toiles en forme d\u2019ode \u00e0 la science, \u00e0 l\u2019entraide et \u00e0 l\u2019amiti\u00e9.<\/p><p>La menace environnementale vient ici d\u2019un organisme d\u00e9couvert r\u00e9cemment dans notre syst\u00e8me solaire et qui semble d\u00e9vorer peu \u00e0 peu chaque \u00e9toile de l\u2019univers \u2026 toutes, sauf une qui r\u00e9siste encore et toujours \u00e0 l\u2019envahisseur\u00a0! Le monde s\u2019unit alors (oui c\u2019est de la science-fiction) pour monter une mission scientifique et envoyer des astronautes enqu\u00eater sur cette incongruit\u00e9 et, peut-\u00eatre, sauver notre syst\u00e8me solaire, et par la m\u00eame, la vie humaine sur Terre\u00a0\u2026 Cette histoire de sauvetage en solo, va rapidement se muer en <em>buddy movie<\/em> au gr\u00e9 d\u2019une \u2018rencontre du troisi\u00e8me type\u2019 (dont le th\u00e8me est m\u00eame fredonn\u00e9 par le protagoniste) dont les difficult\u00e9s de communication et la familiarisation rappelle quelque peu le beaucoup plus s\u00e9rieux \u00ab\u00a0Premier Contact\u00a0\u00bb de Denis Villeneuve. Si la dynamique du protagoniste avec le personnage de Sandra H\u00fcller est r\u00e9ussie, c\u2019est bien sa relation avec son nouveau bin\u00f4me rocheux, quelque part entre l\u2019intelligence sup\u00e9rieure et l\u2019animal de compagnie, qui est au c\u0153ur du film dans cette dynamique d\u2019entente laborieuse dont l\u2019union des forces cr\u00e9er une chaleureuse et sinc\u00e8re amiti\u00e9.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26549 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Snapshot_5866.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Snapshot_5866.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Snapshot_5866-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Snapshot_5866-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Snapshot_5866-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>B\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant pleinement de son budget de superproduction \u00e0 plus de $200M, le film exploite \u00e0 fond son quasi-huis-clos dans le vaisseau gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 d\u2019excellents d\u00e9cors et effets sp\u00e9ciaux mis en sc\u00e8ne par le chef op\u00e9rateur de splendeurs cin\u00e9matographiques comme \u00ab\u00a0Dune\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0The Batman\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0The Creator\u00a0\u00bb avec un superbe travail du marionnettiste James Ortiz sur l\u2019ami et compagnon de route rocheux de notre protagoniste. Daniel Pimberton signe une B.O. qui accompagne parfaitement avec une poign\u00e9e de chansons, le ton d\u2019un film au rythme enlev\u00e9 bourr\u00e9 de charme et d\u2019humour, que ce soit dans une dimension burlesque, gaguesque, linguistique ou de situation. Le sc\u00e9nario offre de plus un beau message d\u2019espoir sur l\u2019humanit\u00e9 en \u00e9vitant les habituels refrains du couple ou de la famille et en se concentrant sur la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance d\u2019un humain d\u00e9brouillard pour contribuer \u00e0 sauver ce qui peut l\u2019\u00eatre \u2013 sans oublier la m\u00e9taphore \u00e9cologique au c\u0153ur du r\u00e9cit renvoyant aux \u00e9nergies fossiles avec des \u2018astrophages\u2019 \u00e0 la fois sources de carburant et risque majeur pour la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 de l\u2019humanit\u00e9.<\/p><p>En revanche la structure non-lin\u00e9aire du r\u00e9cit casse le rythme de certaines sc\u00e8nes avec (qui plus est) une certaine facilit\u00e9 sc\u00e9naristique d\u2019une amn\u00e9sie servant de pr\u00e9texte \u00e0 des souvenirs revenant en vagues irr\u00e9guli\u00e8res pour nourrir le pr\u00e9sent de r\u00e9ponses au compte-gouttes parfois assez inutiles ou \u00e9videntes, et surtout sans grand d\u00e9veloppement de personnages. Si ce choix de montage sert la dynamique <em>fun<\/em> du r\u00e9cit, elle d\u00e9contenance aussi une grande partie des enjeux narratifs et \u00e9motionnels. De mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, le montage est probablement ce qui s\u2019av\u00e8re le plus maladroit dans ce film, entre cette structure de flash-backs erratique et des sc\u00e8nes qui ne prennent pas toujours suffisamment leur temps pour conjuguer suspense et humour (souvent au d\u00e9triment du premier). Alors oui les montages rapides, lors des s\u00e9quences d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentations scientifiques ou de familiarisation linguistique sont r\u00e9ussis, mais l\u2019ensemble n\u2019est pas toujours reli\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s fluide, au d\u00e9triment de la tension et m\u00eame parfois de l\u2019\u00e9merveillement sur certaines sc\u00e8nes dans l\u2019immensit\u00e9 spatiale.<\/p><p>Au final, \u00ab\u00a0Project Hail Mary\u00a0\u00bb coche toutes les cases d\u2019un excellent divertissement am\u00e9ricain et s\u2019impose comme un v\u00e9ritable <em>crowd-pleaser<\/em>\u00a0: il ne fait peut-\u00eatre pas l\u2019unanimit\u00e9, mais r\u00e9ussit clairement \u00e0 non seulement toucher un tr\u00e8s grand public, mais surtout \u00e0 (au minimum) satisfaire son public, lui faire passer un agr\u00e9able moment, voire aller jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poustoufler. Following the failure of their latest space adventure \u2013 the duo had initially begun directing the Star Wars spin-off \u201cSolo\u201d before being replaced mid-shoot \u2013 they return to a galaxy far, far away with this particularly effective, endearing, and feel-good space opera. Adapted \u2013 apparently very faithfully \u2013 from Andy Weir\u2019s novel (2021), \u201cProject Hail Mary\u201d takes the form of a single-character story set in a galactic backdrop, along the lines of \u201cMoon,\u201d \u201cGravity,\u201d and especially \u201cThe Martian\u201d (adapted from a novel by the same author and by the same screenwriter). Ryan Gosling truly carries the film, delivering a compelling performance through his ability to shift from enthusiasm to sarcasm at the slightest setback on this journey through the stars \u2013 an ode to science, mutual aid, and friendship.<\/p><p>The environmental threat here comes from a microbe recently discovered in our solar system that seems to be gradually devouring every star in the universe\u2026 all of them, except one that continues to resist the invader! The world then unites (yes, this is science fiction) to set up a scientific mission and send astronauts to investigate this anomaly and, perhaps, save our solar system\u2014and, by extension, human life on Earth\u2026 This solo rescue story quickly turns into a buddy movie following an \u201cencounter of the third kind\u201d (whose theme is even hummed by the protagonist), whose communication challenges and process of getting to know one another are somewhat reminiscent of Denis Villeneuve\u2019s much more serious \u201cArrival\u201d. While the dynamic between the protagonist and Sandra H\u00fcller\u2019s character is enjoyable, it is his relationship with his new rocky companion\u2014somewhere between a higher intelligence and a pet\u2014that really drives the film. Daniel Pimberton composes a score that perfectly complements the film\u2019s lively tone \u2013 filled with charm and humor, whether through slapstick, physical comedy, wordplay, or situational humor \u2013 with a handful of songs. The screenplay also offers a beautiful message of hope for humanity by avoiding the usual tropes of romance or family and focusing instead on the perseverance of a resourceful human striving to save what can be saved \u2013 not to mention the ecological metaphor at the heart of the story, which references fossil fuels through \u2018astrophages\u2019. that are both sources of fuel and a major threat to humanity\u2019s future.<\/p><p>On the other hand, the non-linear structure of the narrative disrupts the rhythm of certain scenes, compounded by a scriptwriting device that uses amnesia as a pretext for memories surfacing in irregular waves \u2013 filling the present with answers doled out sparingly, which are sometimes rather pointless or obvious, and above all, lacking in character development. While this editing choice serves the story\u2019s playful dynamic, it also undermines much of the narrative and emotional stakes. Overall, the editing is probably the clumsiest aspect of this film, between the erratic flashback structure and scenes that don\u2019t always take enough time to balance suspense and humor (often at the expense of the former). So yes, the quick montages during the scientific experimentation or language familiarization sequences are effective, but the whole thing isn\u2019t always connected in a very fluid way, to the detriment of the tension and even, at times, the sense of wonder in certain scenes set in the vastness of space.<\/p><p>Ultimately, \u201cProject Hail Mary\u201d checks all the boxes for an excellent piece of American entertainment and stands out as a true crowd-pleaser: it may not be universally loved, but it clearly succeeds not only in appealing to a very wide audience, but above all in (at the very least) satisfying its audience, giving them a good time, or even blowing them away. But there was a time when this kind of success was closer to the norm in Hollywood than the exception\u2026 if it\u2019s so popular today, isn\u2019t that also partly due to the current state of
