C\u2019est le pari lanc\u00e9 par Park Chan-wook dans cette nouvelle adaptation du roman \u00ab Le Couperet \u00bb. Une adaptation folle, qui saisit avec justesse les troubles de notre \u00e9poque. Les m\u00eames troubles qu\u2019\u00e0 la sortie du livre (1997) et dont ne changent que les formes et expressions.<\/p><p>Une mise en sc\u00e8ne brutale et n\u00e9cessaire, qui rappelle la mac\u00e9ration violente du capitalisme, telle une doctrine continuant d\u2019infiltrer chacune des strates de nos soci\u00e9t\u00e9s contemporaines jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nos plus intimes relations.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0No Other Choice\u00a0\u00bb est finalement le constat brutal d\u2019une ali\u00e9nation massive r\u00e9fl\u00e9chie par la mise en place d\u2019un management moderne de la servitude volontaire. Un constat incarn\u00e9 ici par Lee Byung Hun qui offre une performance d\u2019humour noire saisissante.<\/p><p>\u00c0 cette base d\u00e9j\u00e0 implacable, le film ajoute une dimension sensorielle radicale. L\u2019image nous frappe par une colorim\u00e9trie de la saturation, un \u00e9clat brutal et une lumi\u00e8re crue qui plonge le spectateur dans cette \u00e9troite fronti\u00e8re entre fantasme et r\u00e9alisme brute. Un visuel marqu\u00e9 qui s\u2019accompagne d\u2019un remarquable travail sonore. Une redoutable conjugaison des deux sens qui participe avec force \u00e0 ce d\u00e9s\u00e9quilibre sensoriel du spectateur et aiguise l\u2019humour noir port\u00e9 par le film. On ne regarde plus seulement la violence d\u2019un homme et d\u2019un syst\u00e8me, on l\u2019\u00e9prouve physiquement.<\/p><p>Enfin, derri\u00e8re cette m\u00e9canique formelle se dessinent les chim\u00e8res de la r\u00e9ussite sociale. La qu\u00eate d\u2019ascension qui ronge peu \u00e0 peu toute compassion. L\u2019autre devient rival, victime d\u2019une qu\u00eate sociale artificielle. Les lignes du d\u00e9cor franchies ou non par les personnages deviennent alors le symbole d\u2019une d\u00e9cision ou d\u2019une trahison. The same turmoil that existed when the book was first published, with only the shapes and expressions having changed.<\/p><p>A brutal and necessary staging, reminiscent of the violent corrosion of capitalism, like a doctrine that keeps infiltrating every layer of our contemporary societies, right down to our most intimate relationships.<\/p><p>\u201cNo Other Choice\u201d is ultimately a brutal observation of mass alienation reflected in the implementation of modern management techniques designed to encourage willing servitude. This observation is embodied here by Lee Byung Hun, who delivers a striking performance full of dark humor.<\/p><p>To this already relentless premise, the film adds a powerful sensory dimension. The picture is striking for its saturated colors, brutal brightness, and harsh lighting, which draws the viewer into the narrow border between fantasy and raw realism. These striking visuals are accompanied by remarkable sound design. This formidable combination of the two senses contributes powerfully to the viewer&rsquo;s sensory imbalance and sharpens the film&rsquo;s dark humor. We no longer just watch the violence of a man and a system, we experience it physically.<\/p><p>Finally, behind this formal device lie the chimeras of social success. The quest for advancement gradually erodes all compassion. Others become rivals, victims of an artificial social quest. The lines in the set that the characters cross or don&rsquo;t become a symbol of a decision or betrayal. Through gorgeous and meaningful transitions, striking juxtapositions of shots and beautiful reflections that highlight the characters&rsquo; gazes and the stakes at play in a single scene, Park Chan-Wook carries on his work in \u201cDecision to Leave\u201d and once again delivers a film where all the tools of cinema come together to convey the point of this satire which he dedicates to Costa Gavras, and that combines suspense, humor, and drama.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
