Apr\u00e8s \u00ab A Couteaux Tir\u00e9s \u00bb et \u00ab Glass Onion \u00bb, le sc\u00e9nariste et r\u00e9alisateur Rian Jonhson nous propose une enqu\u00eate \u00e0 nouveau d\u00e9connect\u00e9e des pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, dans un cadre et un ton diff\u00e9rents, avec de nouveaux personnages, mais toujours un impressionnant casting choral. Nouveau d\u00e9cor et nouvelle saison \u00e0 chaque fois (automne, \u00e9t\u00e9, printemps), Jonhson sait se renouveler en explorant cette fois le myst\u00e8re en chambre close et son meurtre impossible qui attise tant la curiosit\u00e9 de notre excentrique d\u00e9tective sudiste. Pour ce troisi\u00e8me volet, la trilogie \u00ab Knives Out \u00bb suit donc un parcours parall\u00e8le \u00e0 la r\u00e9cente saga des aventures d\u2019Agatha Christie adapt\u00e9e par Kenneth Branagh avec un premier opus tr\u00e8s british, suivi d\u2019une enqu\u00eate perdue dans un cadre exotique avant de conclure sur une ambiance d\u2019inspiration gothique dans \u00ab Myst\u00e8re \u00e0 Venise \u00bb et ce \u00ab Wake up Dead Man \u00bb.<\/p><p>Ce polar nous embarque ainsi dans un myst\u00e8re cl\u00e9rical au sein d\u2019une Eglise perdue dans la for\u00eat du Nord-Est des \u00c9tats-Unis. Plus sombre et cynique, ce troisi\u00e8me volet conserve la qualit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9criture et de mise en sc\u00e8ne qui a fait la r\u00e9ussite des deux premiers, au gr\u00e9 de subtils d\u00e9tails et diversions diss\u00e9min\u00e9es tout au long de l\u2019enqu\u00eate, sans oublier quelques clins d\u2019\u0153il r\u00e9f\u00e9renc\u00e9s qui ne manqueront pas de faire sourire. Toujours narr\u00e9e par le personnage au centre du conflit, \u00ab\u00a0Wake up dead man\u00a0\u00bb ne joue cette fois-ci pas sur un artifice narratif (respectivement un personnage d\u00e9tecteur de mensonge et une cible-sosie dans le 1 &amp; le 2) mais conserve la grande force de ces r\u00e9cits\u00a0: leur double lecture avant et apr\u00e8s les r\u00e9v\u00e9lations. L\u2019ensemble de cet excellent casting doit ainsi jouer chaque sc\u00e8ne sous deux points de vue tout autant cr\u00e9dibles\u00a0! Dans une intrigue qui r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 placer la croyance, le jugement et les convictions au centre des enjeux sans jamais tomber dans un pr\u00eache ou une condamnation binaire de la religion, la trame fait \u00e9voluer ses deux protagonistes vers une meilleure compr\u00e9hension de soi et des autres. M\u00eame d\u2019un point de vue ath\u00e9e, cette affaire ne peut \u00eatre r\u00e9solue sans alt\u00e9rer la valeur de la foi. La victoire finale se fait ainsi au prix de l\u2019apprentissage du renoncement et de l\u2019acceptation du pouvoir de la foi chez le fid\u00e8le.<\/p><p>Plus profond que les deux pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents volets, cette troisi\u00e8me aventure rel\u00e8gue donc encore un peu plus le cadre du \u2018whodunnit\u2019 en arri\u00e8re-plan. D\u2019autant que son intrigue peut aussi \u00eatre lue sous l\u2019angle d\u2019une all\u00e9gorie sous-jacente du climat politique am\u00e9ricain actuel avec ce leader conservateur charismatique qui radicalise sa congr\u00e9gation, d\u00e9pla\u00e7ant la fronti\u00e8re de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 pour un contr\u00f4le spirituel et intellectuel de ses sujets. Pertinent politiquement et juste religieusement, \u00ab\u00a0Wake up dead man\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose clairement comme l\u2019opus qui explore le plus ses th\u00e8mes et les arcs narratifs de ses protagonistes. En revanche, ses personnages secondaires ne sont pas aussi int\u00e9ressants et \u00e9gaux que dans les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, avec notamment Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis et Kerry Washington ayant droit \u00e0 une caract\u00e9risation plus faible et moins nuanc\u00e9e que Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close ou Josh Brolin. Avec un sc\u00e9nario plus riche en th\u00e9matiques, mais moins riche dans la structure et les rouages de son intrigue, le d\u00e9nouement devient alors moins surprenant, et le myst\u00e8re moins prenant.<\/p><p>C\u2019est donc un opus assez diff\u00e9rent des deux premiers, clairement moins <em>fun<\/em>, moins l\u00e9ger, moins divertissant en somme, tout en restant n\u00e9anmoins coh\u00e9rent avec le ton et le style de cette nouvelle saga qui s\u2019av\u00e8re tr\u00e8s homog\u00e8ne dans cette premi\u00e8re (ou unique, s\u2019il s\u2019agit de l\u2019ultime volet) trilogie. After \u201cKnives Out\u201d and \u201cGlass Onion\u201d, screenwriter and director Rian Johnson delivers another case that is disconnected from the previous ones, with a different setting and tone, new characters, but still an impressive ensemble cast. With a new setting and season each time (fall, summer, spring), Johnson knows how to keep things fresh, this time exploring the locked-room mystery and its impossible crime that so fuels the curiosity of our quirky Southern sleuth. For this third installment, the \u201cKnives Out\u201d trilogy follows a similar path to the recent saga of Agatha Christie\u2019s adventures adapted by Kenneth Branagh, with a very British first chapter, followed by a murder mystery set in an exotic location, before culminating in a Gothic-inspired atmosphere in \u201cA Haunting in Venice\u201d and this \u201cWake Up Dead Man.\u201d<\/p><p>This crime thriller takes us on a journey into a clerical mystery set in a church lost in the forests of the northeastern United States. Darker and more cynical, this third installment still has the same great writing and staging that made the first two so successful, with subtle details and diversions scattered throughout the investigation, as well as a few clever references that will make you smile. Still narrated by the character at the center of the dispute, \u201cWake Up Dead Man\u201d does not rely on storytelling gimmicks this time around (respectively a lie detector character and a doppelganger target in parts 1 and 2), but retains the great strength of these films: their double interpretation before and after the revelations. The whole stellar cast must therefore play each scene from two equally credible points of view! In a plot that manages to put belief, judgment, and convictions at the center of the matter without ever falling into binary preaching or indictment of religion, the story drives its two protagonists toward a better understanding of themselves and others. Even from an atheist point of view, this case cannot be solved without altering the value of faith. The ultimate victory thus comes through learning the virtue of self-sacrifice to let others redeem and believing in the power of faith for the faithful.<\/p><p>Deeper than the previous two installments, this third venture pushes the \u201cwhodunnit\u201d framework even further into the background. All the more so as its plot can also be read as an underlying allegory of the current American political environment, with its charismatic conservative leader radicalizing his congregation, shifting the boundaries of truth in order to gain spiritual and intellectual control over his followers. Politically relevant and religiously accurate, \u201cWake Up Dead Man\u201d clearly stands out as the installment that most thoroughly explores its themes and the story arcs of its protagonists. On the other hand, its supporting characters are not as interesting or well-developed as in the previous films, with Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, and Kerry Washington in particular getting weaker and less nuanced characterizations than Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, or Josh Brolin. With a script that is richer in themes but less rich in structure and plot mechanics, the climax becomes less surprising and the mystery less compelling.<\/p><p>This installment is therefore quite different from the first two, clearly less fun, less lighthearted, and less entertaining overall, while remaining consistent with the tone and style of this new saga, which proves to be very even in this first (or sole, if it is the final installment) trilogy. One thing is for sure: after a great sci-fi thriller, the strongest \u2018Star Wars\u2019 script of the <em>Disney<\/em> era, and three top quality murder mysteries that lean more and more towards
