C\u2019est plut\u00f4t dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re et la construction de son r\u00e9cit qu\u2019il emprunte au genre de l\u2019espionnage pour progressivement \u00e9voluer entre les genres trouvant un \u00e9quilibre de samba entre une grave intrigue profond\u00e9ment historique, une \u00e9tude de personnage myst\u00e9rieuse et des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de culture populaire m\u00e9langeant le tout avec humour et surprise.<\/p><p>\u00c9crit sous l\u2019\u00e8re Bolsonaro, et en partie \u00e9crit \u00e0 Bordeaux, le film de Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho est ainsi un thriller politique et un drame familial qui nous plonge dans le Br\u00e9sil \u2013 et plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment les Br\u00e9sil(s) et leurs oppositions entre Nord et Sud \u2013 des ann\u00e9es 1970, soit en pleine dictature militaire bien qu\u2019elle ne soit jamais mentionn\u00e9e et ne transparaisse pas \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran (\u00e0 l\u2019exception du portrait officiel du Pr\u00e9sident). Au final l\u2019histoire porte sur des questions universitaires dans une opposition marqu\u00e9e entre culture &amp; science vs obscurantisme\u00a0: le sauvetage d\u2019un scientifique se pr\u00e9pare ainsi dans une salle de projection d\u2019un cin\u00e9ma d\u2019\u00e9poque depuis disparu. C\u2019est une fresque historique et personnelle dans une narration qui prend son temps pour mettre en place un jeu de piste permanent pour le spectateur avant de ne d\u00e9couvrir les tenants et aboutissants de l\u2019intrigue qu\u2019au bout d\u2019une heure et demie d\u2019un r\u00e9cit plus proche d\u2019un roman que d\u2019un sc\u00e9nario pour conclure sur une excellente fin d\u00e9jouant \u00e0 nouveau les attentes et ouvrant son histoire \u00e0 une port\u00e9e plus large.<\/p><p>Doublement prim\u00e9 \u00e0 Cannes, \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019Agent Secret\u00a0\u00bb emporte ainsi son spectateur au gr\u00e9 de ses 2h40, dans une \u00e9volution des registres d\u2019une premi\u00e8re sc\u00e8ne d\u2019o\u00f9 na\u00eet une forme de tension \u00e9nigmatique \u00e0 des sc\u00e8nes plus ironiques, parfois hallucinatoires, voire m\u00e9taphoriques. Rather, it\u2019s in the atmosphere and structure of its narrative that it borrows from the spy genre, gradually evolving between the genres, striking a samba-like balance between a serious, deeply historical plot, a mysterious character study and elements of folk culture, blending the whole with humor and surprise.<\/p><p>Written under the Bolsonaro administration, and partly penned in Bordeaux, Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho\u2019s film is a political thriller and family drama that takes us back to Brazil \u2013 and more precisely, Brazil(s) and its North-South contrasts \u2013 in the 1970s, at the height of the military dictatorship, even though it is never mentioned or shown on screen (with the exception of the President\u2019s official portrait). Ultimately, the story deals with academic issues in a stark opposition between culture &amp; science vs. obscurantism: the rescue of a scientist is thus set up in the projection room of a now-closed vintage movie theater. It\u2019s a historical and personal epic, with a narrative that takes its time to set up a permanent puzzle for the viewer, before only revealing the ins and outs of the plot after an hour and a half of storytelling that\u2019s closer to a novel than a screenplay, culminating in an excellent ending that once again thwarts expectations and opens up its story to a wider scope.<\/p><p>Winner of two awards at Cannes, \u201cThe Secret Agent\u201d takes viewers on a 160-minute-long journey, moving from an opening scene of enigmatic tension to more ironic, sometimes delusional, or even metaphorical scenes. It\u2019s a film that doesn\u2019t hesitate to take a few incongruous detours in script and tone to nevertheless build an original and coherent whole in a particularly authentic and successful color-saturated recreation of the city of Recife in the 1970s, and driven by the excellent, multi-faceted performance of Wagner Moura (Narcos; Civil War; Sergio), who shines for once in his native
