irracontable ? Apr\u00e8s l\u2019inventive hybridit\u00e9 des \u00ab Filles d\u2019Olfa \u00bb, Kaouther Ben Hania continue de m\u00ealer r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et fiction dans son nouveau film nous plongeant cette fois dans l\u2019enfer que traverse les civils \u00e0 Gaza. Elle recr\u00e9e les \u00e9changes t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques entre une fillette coinc\u00e9e dans une voiture \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des troupes de Tsahal, et les permanents du Croissant rouge qui se relaient inlassablement au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone pour la soutenir et la r\u00e9conforter pendant qu\u2019ils s\u2019efforcent en parall\u00e8le de mettre en place une op\u00e9ration humanitaire. Les enregistrements audios des conversations t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques y sont authentiques quand les femmes et les hommes du Croissant rouge auxquels la fillette parle, sont interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s eux par des acteurs palestiniens. L\u2019int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 de l\u2019action est donc d\u00e9crite par la voix de la fillette, un mat\u00e9riau authentique autour duquel la r\u00e9alisatrice tunisienne construit son film dans un huis-clos oppressant au sein du centre d\u2019appels humanitaire de Ramallah o\u00f9 la vie de la gamine est, litt\u00e9ralement, suspendue \u00e0 un fil.<\/p><p>Explorant \u00e0 nouveau la fronti\u00e8re entre documentaire et fiction, Kaouther Ben Hania se limite ainsi \u00e0 ce cadre exclusivement sonore qui reprend les codes de la trag\u00e9die classique avec son unit\u00e9 de lieu, de temps et d\u2019action. C\u2019est un parti pris qui ne cherche aucunement \u00e0 ajouter de l\u2019horreur visuelle au r\u00e9el rest\u00e9 en hors-champ, pour s\u2019appuyer uniquement sur l\u2019imagination du spectateur dans une sc\u00e9nographie vitr\u00e9e jouant de la transparence des espaces entre ses protagonistes pour y montrer l\u2019\u00e9coute. A la fois la dimension centrale et vitale de ces paroles sont ainsi retranscrites \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran d\u00e8s l\u2019ouverture lorsqu\u2019une onde bleue vient strier l\u2019obscurit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9cran noir pour y laisser appara\u00eetre une ligne floue entre l\u2019enc\u00e9phalogramme et l\u2019enregistrement vocal\u00a0: une ligne de vie. Bien que moins riche en mise en sc\u00e8ne que \u00ab\u00a0Les Filles d\u2019Olfa\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0La Voix de Hind Rajab\u00a0\u00bb pousse ensuite l\u2019hybridation jusque dans une sc\u00e8ne synchronisant la r\u00e9elle voix de la fillette, les r\u00e9actions des vrais humanitaires et le jeu des acteurs dans un enregistrement des images et des paroles qui devient la seule arme de ce film de guerre.<\/p><p>Ce choix de huis-clos, propre \u00e0 faire monter la tension, montre finalement plus le travail humanitaire, et la coordination sur place, que la guerre en elle-m\u00eame. Si l\u2019illustration des rouages proc\u00e9duraux d\u2019un syst\u00e8me de d\u00e9cision partag\u00e9 entre Palestiniens et Isra\u00e9liens, n\u2019\u00e9vite malheureusement pas quelques dialogues trop didactiques pour expliquer les subtilit\u00e9s d\u2019une inaction forc\u00e9e, ce dispositif forme un e th\u00e9\u00e2tre douloureusement humain qui saisit l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 et la violence d\u2019une situation finalement effroyablement banale. En cela, le film ne peut qu\u2019\u00eatre bouleversant et implacable \u2013 bien qu\u2019il aurait pu explorer plus en profondeur la question des d\u00e9placements \u00e0 Gaza et d\u2019une coordination sous rapport de force. C\u2019est une fiction-t\u00e9moin qui brandit un nom, lequel fait \u00e9cho \u00e0 des milliers d\u2019autres, dont la voix n\u2019est autre que celle de tout un peuple. After the creative hybridity of \u201cFour Daughters\u201d, Kaouther Ben Hania keeps mixing reality and fiction in her new movie, this time diving into the hell that civilians in Gaza are going through. She recreates the telephone exchanges between a young girl trapped in a car near IDF troops and Red Crescent staff who tirelessly take turns on the phone to support and comfort her while they work to set up a humanitarian operation. The audio recordings of the telephone conversations are authentic, while the Red Crescent workers with whom the girl speaks are played by Palestinian actors. The entire action is therefore described through the girl&rsquo;s voice, an authentic source material around which the Tunisian director builds her film in an oppressive closed setting within the humanitarian call center in Ramallah, where the girl&rsquo;s life is literally hanging by a thread.<\/p><p>Once again exploring the blurred line between documentary and fiction, Kaouther Ben Hania sticks to an audio-only format that borrows from classical tragedy with its unity of place, time, and action. This approach makes no attempt to add visual horror to the reality that remains off-screen, relying solely on the viewer&rsquo;s imagination in a glass scenography that plays on the transparency of the space between its protagonists to show their listening. The central and vital dimensions of these words are thus conveyed on screen from the outset, when a blue wave streaks across the darkness of the black screen to reveal a blurred line between an encephalogram and a voice recording: this is a lifeline. Although less elaborate in its staging than \u201cFour Daughters\u201d, \u201cThe Voice of Hind Rajab\u201d then takes its hybrid approach even further in a scene that synchronizes the girl&rsquo;s real voice, the reactions of the real aid workers, and the actors&rsquo; performances in a recording of images and words that becomes the only weapon in this war film.<\/p><p>This choice of a closed setting, bound to heighten tension, ultimately shows more of the humanitarian work and coordination on the ground than the war itself. While the depiction of the procedural mechanisms of a decision-making system shared between Palestinians and Israelis unfortunately does not avoid some overly didactic dialogue to explain the subtleties of what is ultimately a forced inaction, this approach creates a painfully human theater that captures the absurdity and violence of a situation that is in the end horribly mundane. In this respect, the film can only be moving and relentless \u2013 although it could have explored in greater depth the issue of displacement in Gaza and coordination in a power imbalance. It is a witnessing fiction that raises a name, one that echoes thousands of others, and whose voice is none other than that of an entire people. Through its single point of view and its immersion in the call center, the narrative conveys a collective powerlessness that gives the film a sinister and brutal feel, but one that is also necessary in its role as an act of remembrance for slaughtered childhoods.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
