C\u2019est donc le r\u00e9alisateur Guillermo del Toro qui s\u2019attaque cette fois-ci au roman, avec un long-m\u00e9trage dans la veine de son univers fantastique et \u00e9trangement all\u00e8gre.<\/p><p>Nous (re)voil\u00e0 ainsi avec le Dr. Viktor Frankenstein qui, par le fruit d\u2019un travail acharn\u00e9 (et bien s\u00fbr \u00e9thiquement discutable) donne vie \u00e0 une Cr\u00e9ature faite de lambeaux et de morceaux de cadavres r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s \u00e7\u00e0 et l\u00e0. Mais la naissance de cette Cr\u00e9ature et la r\u00e9action de Frankenstein face \u00e0 sa r\u00e9ussite effrayent, \u00e9meuvent et surtout questionnent notre humanit\u00e9.<\/p><p>Fid\u00e8le \u00e0 l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re de ses pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents films, Guillermo del Toro nous emporte \u00e0 nouveau dans des d\u00e9cors r\u00e9tro-futuristes tout en couleurs qui paraissent \u00e0 la fois kitsch et enchanteurs, aussi parce que le continuel mouvement de la cam\u00e9ra nous accompagne dans cette curiosit\u00e9 ornementale et paysag\u00e8re \u2013 quoique peut-\u00eatre au d\u00e9triment des d\u00e9tails et de la complexit\u00e9 de certains lieux (en particulier l\u2019imposante tour-laboratoire).<\/p><p>De cette chaleur (malgr\u00e9 le froid hivernal voire arctique de plusieurs sc\u00e8nes) d\u00e9coule \u00e9videmment une intrigue relativement joyeuse, teint\u00e9e n\u00e9anmoins de quelques passages malencontreux, \u00e0 l\u2019image des contes pour enfants. Non pas que les choix de r\u00e9alisation et de r\u00e9\u00e9criture d\u2019une intrigue au d\u00e9part particuli\u00e8rement tragique soient d\u00e9plac\u00e9s (ils demeurent assez coh\u00e9rents et respectent m\u00eame la structure originelle du roman), mais ils engendrent des \u00e9carts de narration quelquefois bancals et r\u00e9duits \u00e0 peau de chagrin. Le personnage tr\u00e8s remodel\u00e9 d\u2019Elizabeth se cantonne par exemple presque \u00e0 un clich\u00e9 de l\u2019Amour v\u00e9ritable et inatteignable, tandis que l\u2019expressif et mortel Frankenstein s\u2019efface au profit de la taciturne et increvable Cr\u00e9ature, ce qui est une simplification regrettable d\u2019une histoire qui est pourtant bien plus cruelle et bien plus profonde que ce que le long-m\u00e9trage en rem\u00e2che insipidement.<\/p><p>\u00ab Frankenstein \u00bb se rapproche par cons\u00e9quent un peu trop de \u00ab La Forme de l\u2019Eau \u00bb, alors m\u00eame que ce sont des r\u00e9cits diam\u00e9tralement oppos\u00e9s ; c\u2019est dommage. This time, director Guillermo del Toro takes on the novel with a film in line with his fantastical and strangely cheerful universe.<\/p><p>Here we are again with Dr. Viktor Frankenstein who, through hard work (and, of course, ethically questionable practices), brings to life a creature made from scraps and pieces of corpses collected here and there. But the birth of this creature and Frankenstein&rsquo;s reaction to his success frighten, move, and above all, challenge our humanity.<\/p><p>Consistent with the atmosphere of his previous films, Guillermo del Toro once again takes us into colorful retro-futuristic sets that seem both kitsch and enchanting, partly because the camera&rsquo;s constant movement draws us into this ornamental and landscaped curiosity \u2013 although perhaps at the expense of the details and complexity of certain locations (particularly the imposing tower-laboratory).<\/p><p>This warmth (despite the wintery, even arctic cold of several scenes) naturally gives rise to a relatively joyful plot, tinged nonetheless with a few ill-fated passages, much like children&rsquo;s stories. Frankenstein and the Creature thus experience moments of life, adventures, and feelings with which we can relate, and the movie concludes with morals that are easy to grasp.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24865 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Snapshot_5172.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Snapshot_5172.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Snapshot_5172-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Snapshot_5172-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Snapshot_5172-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>However, this is yet another very loose adaptation of Mary Shelley&rsquo;s book. Not that the choices made in directing and rewriting what was originally a particularly tragic plot are inappropriate (they remain fairly consistent and even respect the original structure of the novel), but they do lead to some uneven and truncated narrative discrepancies. The heavily reworked character of Elizabeth, for example, is reduced to little more than a clich\u00e9 of true and unattainable love, while the expressive and mortal Frankenstein fades into the background in favor of the taciturn and undying Creature, which is an unfortunate simplification of a story that is much crueler and deeper than what the movie blandly rehashes.<\/p><p>\u201cFrankenstein\u201d therefore comes a little too close to \u201cThe Shape of Water,\u201d even though they are diametrically opposed stories, which is a shame. All in all, this umpteenth adaptation (which is uplifting, and not so bad, once again) has weaknesses in its screenplay, but it remains visually beautiful \u2013 and even, if we disregard the original tone of the novel, philosophically beautiful.<\/p><p>Axel
