pouvoir de Salah-ad-Din. Lorsque le Grand Imam, plus haute autorit\u00e9 de l\u2019islam sunnite, meurt soudainement, le Conseil des Oul\u00e9mas se r\u00e9unit pour \u00e9lire un nouvel Imam. Mais de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la rue, la S\u00fbret\u00e9 de l\u2019Etat s\u2019en m\u00eale et veut placer un cheikh inf\u00e9od\u00e9. S\u2019engage alors une partie d\u2019\u00e9checs entre les \u00e9lites politiques et religieuses dans laquelle Adam se retrouve pris malgr\u00e9 lui mais o\u00f9 il ne jouera pas seulement un pion \u2026<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s le tr\u00e8s remarqu\u00e9 \u00ab Le Caire Confidentiel \u00bb \u2013 et une br\u00e8ve excursion am\u00e9ricaine avec \u00ab The Contractor \u00bb \u2013 Tarik Saleh revient avec un thriller m\u00ealant politique et religion tout en continuant son auscultation de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9gyptienne en nous faisant cette fois visiter les arcanes d\u2019un lieu tr\u00e8s secret. Mais s\u2019agit-il vraiment d\u2019un nom de la rose arabo-musulmane ? La r\u00e9ponse est multiple car le Prix du Meilleur sc\u00e9nario 2022 \u00e0 Cannes est plus audacieux et courageux que l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Umberto Eco dans la mesure o\u00f9 elle s\u2019attaque \u00e0 une situation actuelle avec des cons\u00e9quences bien plus tangibles que l\u2019exposition de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 historique qu\u2019\u00e9tait l\u2019Inquisition. Le r\u00e9alisateur su\u00e9dois d\u2019origine \u00e9gyptienne d\u00e9nonce en effet \u00e0 la fois des politiques corrompus et des religieux hypocrites en dressant le portrait d\u2019un \u00c9tat autoritaire qui man\u0153uvre dans l\u2019ombre et se m\u00eale de religion ainsi que d\u2019une universit\u00e9 divis\u00e9e et flirtant dangereusement avec le salafisme. Il ne s\u2019attaque en revanche ni \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9gypte ni \u00e0 l\u2019Islam mais bien \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me partag\u00e9 par la politique et la religion.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24359 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5072.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5072.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5072-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5072-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5072-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Cette coproduction su\u00e9do-finno-franco-danoise porte donc un sujet passionnant et m\u00e9connu car non seulement rarement trait\u00e9 mais surtout qui est d\u00e9finitivement d\u2019actualit\u00e9 puisque d\u00e8s sa prise de pouvoir le Mar\u00e9chal al-Sissi se confronta \u00e0 l\u2019institution Al-Azhar apr\u00e8s avoir dissout les Fr\u00e8res Musulmans. Le conflit entre les chefs politique et religieux de l\u2019\u00c9gypte devint public et constitue ainsi un contexte particuli\u00e8rement r\u00e9aliste pour l\u2019intrigue de ce film. C\u2019est par cons\u00e9quent une \u0153uvre riche et tr\u00e8s singuli\u00e8re \u00e0 forte dimension didactique et analytique. N\u00e9anmoins, dans son adoption du genre thriller \u00ab La Conspiration du Caire \u00bb ne se r\u00e9v\u00e8le pas autant stimulant et \u00e9touffant que ce que l\u2019intrigue pouvait laisser sugg\u00e9rer.<\/p><p>Malgr\u00e9 quelques tr\u00e8s beaux plans et des interpr\u00e9tations particuli\u00e8rement convaincantes des acteurs avec en t\u00eate l\u2019isra\u00e9lien Tawfeek Bahrom et du libanais Fares Fares, la r\u00e9alisation peine quelque peu \u00e0 installer une atmosph\u00e8re de tension et de suspense. L\u2019intrigue s\u2019\u00e9loigne progressivement du r\u00e9cit d\u2019infiltration pour plonger dans un film de prison. Les jeux de pouvoir ne sont par moments pas suffisamment d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s comme en t\u00e9moigne la sc\u00e8ne du coup final d\u2019\u00e9chec et mat faisant basculer l\u2019intrigue mais manquant de clart\u00e9 et de narration pour \u00eatre v\u00e9ritablement percutante. On a bien l\u2019impression d\u2019\u00eatre dans les coulisses d\u2019Al-Azhar et l\u2019on ressent bien la menace de la S\u00fbret\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00c9tat mais on ne sent pas le protagoniste v\u00e9ritablement enferm\u00e9 dans un labyrinthe d\u2019enjeux de pouvoir. Les personnages secondaires manquent probablement un peu de profondeur pour qu\u2019on soit plus investi dans leurs diff\u00e9rents int\u00e9r\u00eats.<\/p><p>Tarik Saleh combine en revanche avec efficacit\u00e9 le r\u00e9cit d\u2019apprentissage o\u00f9 le d\u00e9part du village pour suivre des \u00e9tudes repr\u00e9sente de grands enjeux, avec l\u2019intrigue polici\u00e8re o\u00f9 Al-Azhar doit encore et comme toujours coexister avec le pouvoir politique en place. Ce n\u2019est donc pas qu\u2019une histoire de jeux de pouvoir : c\u2019est aussi un voyage initiatique o\u00f9 le savoir repr\u00e9sente le pouvoir. En cela, \u00ab La Conspiration du Caire \u00bb est un tr\u00e8s bon film mais dont la dimension thriller ne d\u00e9ploie pas tout son potentiel. When the Grand Imam, the highest authority in Sunni Islam, dies suddenly, the Council of Ulemas meets to elect a new Imam. But on the other side of the road, State Security gets tangled up and wants to place an affiliated sheikh. A chess game between the political and religious elites then ensues in which Adam finds himself trapped unwillingly, but in which he will not just play a pawn&#8230;<\/p><p>After the highly acclaimed \u201cThe Nile Hilton Incident\u201d \u2013 and a brief American venture with \u201cThe Contractor\u201d \u2013 Tarik Saleh returns with a thriller mixing politics and religion while continuing his examination of Egyptian society by taking us on a tour of a highly secretive place. But is it really a name of the Arab-Muslim rose? The answer is manifold as the 2022 Cannes Best Screenplay winner is more daring and courageous than Umberto Eco&rsquo;s work in that it tackles a current situation with far more tangible consequences than the exposure of the historical truth that was the Inquisition. The Swedish filmmaker of Egyptian origin indeed exposes both corrupt politicians and hypocritical clerics by portraying an authoritarian state that operates in the shadows and meddles with religion as well as a divided university that dangerously borders on Salafism. However, he does not attack Egypt or Islam but a system shared by politics and religion.<\/p><p>This Swedish-Finnish-French-Danish co-production is about a fascinating and little-known subject that is not only rarely dealt with, but is also definitely topical, since as soon as he took power, Marshal el-Sisi confronted the Al-Azhar institution after having dissolved the Muslim Brotherhood. The conflict between Egypt&rsquo;s political and religious leader became public and thus provides a particularly realistic context for the plot of this film. It is therefore a rich and very singular piece with a strong didactic and analytical component. Nevertheless, in its use of the thriller genre, \u201cBoy From Heaven\u201d does not turn out to be as exciting and chilling as the plot would suggest.<\/p><p>Despite some very beautiful shots and particularly convincing performances by the actors, led by the Israeli Tawfeek Bahrom and the Lebanese Fares Fares, the direction struggles somewhat to set an atmosphere of tension and suspense. The plot gradually moves away from the undercover story to dive into a prison movie. The power games are not enough developed at times, as shown by the final checkmate scene that rocks the plot but lacks the clarity and narration to be truly impactful. We do get the feeling of being behind the scenes in Al-Azhar and we do feel the threat of State Security but we don&rsquo;t feel that the protagonist is really trapped in a labyrinth of power struggles. The secondary characters probably lack a little depth for us to be more engaged in their various agendas.<\/p><p>On the other hand, Tarik Saleh effectively combines the learning experience, where leaving the village to study means high stakes, with the police plot, where Al-Azhar still has to coexist with the political power in place. So, it is not only a story of power games: it is also an initiation journey where knowledge represents power. In this respect, \u201cBoy From Heaven\u201d is a very good film but its thriller component does not reach its full potential.
