Moins sur la politique proprement chilienne ou sud-am\u00e9ricaine, que sur un questionnement finalement universel, le film raconte un cri, un son qui porte et fait onde de choc, une vague de col\u00e8re, un tsunami pr\u00eat \u00e0 inonder la terre ferme, en mettant en sc\u00e8ne une protagoniste qui cherche sa voix, autant litt\u00e9ralement que m\u00e9taphoriquement.<\/p><p>Le film repose en fait sur une double all\u00e9gorie, dans sa forme et son fond. Tout d\u2019abord, \u00ab La Vague \u00bb est le portrait d\u2019une jeune \u00e9tudiante au conservatoire (Daniela L\u00f3pez) qui voit ce mouvement social se construire dans une premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 o\u00f9 elle y participe uniquement comme un membre d\u2019un tout avant que le film ne mute et qu\u2019elle devienne subitement le porte-flambeau du mouvement, l\u2019incarnation du tout, l\u2019all\u00e9gorie du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne social : tous les personnages connaissant alors son nom et son histoire, bien mieux qu\u2019elle-m\u00eame. Mais le c\u0153ur du sujet c\u2019est aussi finalement cette volont\u00e9 et ce courage d\u2019accuser des hommes, de d\u00e9noncer des agresseurs, <em>in fine<\/em> de prendre la parole. Or cette prise de parole, elle passe par les mots, elle passe par la voix, et la voix dans l\u2019art c\u2019est quoi\u00a0? C\u2019est le chant\u00a0! On d\u00e9couvre donc pour illustrer ce propos, une com\u00e9die musicale d\u00e8s une sc\u00e8ne d\u2019introduction \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 o\u00f9 une mar\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9tudiantes s\u2019unit par le chant et la chor\u00e9graphie pour crier leur rage face \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me \u00e9ducatif qui ne les prot\u00e8ge pas. A travers ses chor\u00e9graphies, le film chilien embrasse v\u00e9ritablement les dynamiques de confrontation et de d\u00e9bat sur cette fronti\u00e8re t\u00e9nue entre abus et viol &amp; entre le ressenti et le fait d\u2019\u00eatre agress\u00e9. Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019un viol\u00a0? Sur qui rejette-on la culpabilit\u00e9\u00a0? Et est-ce vraiment la bonne question\u00a0? S\u2019il choisit de ne pas proposer de r\u00e9ponse d\u00e9finitive, c\u2019est pour relever le d\u00e9fi de n\u2019\u00e9luder aucune position et de ne pas prendre parti, dans des dialogues chant\u00e9s qui construisent les arguments des diff\u00e9rents groupes de personnages repr\u00e9sentant chacun une position dans ce d\u00e9bat houleux. Si ce choix cr\u00e9e une distance avec des personnages que l\u2019on ne conna\u00eet finalement peu, c\u2019est aussi une force d\u2019ouvrir de la sorte un tel d\u00e9bat sans jamais le boucler.<\/p><p>D\u2019autant que le sc\u00e9nario propose de belles id\u00e9es prolongeant v\u00e9ritablement le propos du film. C&rsquo;est notamment le cas \u00e0 travers une sc\u00e8ne recoupant l\u2019un des th\u00e8mes sous-jacents de \u00ab The Wonder \u00bb sur la place du cin\u00e9ma dans la repr\u00e9sentation des id\u00e9es. Ou lors d&rsquo;une s\u00e9quence de compte-rendu qui d\u00e9bute sur les diff\u00e9rentes d\u00e9cisions prises lors d\u2019un jugement pour s\u2019accumuler et s\u2019\u00e9loigner de plus en plus des faits et des cons\u00e9quences directes, dans une pr\u00e9diction de l\u2019avenir des deux personnages jug\u00e9s en poussant loin cette id\u00e9e jusqu\u2019\u00e0 leur avenir personnel, relationnel et professionnel. Il opte avec ses collaborateurs (le compositeur Matthew Herbert, le chor\u00e9graphe Ryan Heffington) pour un style \u00e9lectrique et explosif o\u00f9 les corps dansent et chantent avec fr\u00e9n\u00e9sie dans des chor\u00e9graphies appropri\u00e9es (et parfois assez sexualis\u00e9es) qui prennent de plus en plus d\u2019espace dans ce campus universitaire \u00e0 mesure que la prise de parole s\u2019\u00e9mancipe jusqu\u2019\u00e0 r\u00e9unir plus d\u2019une centaine de danseuses. Il joue alors du cadre de sa com\u00e9die musicale, ench\u00e2ssant les espaces dans une troublante d\u00e9sorientation et artificialit\u00e9 de son d\u00e9cor comme d\u2019un labyrinthe surr\u00e9aliste et m\u00e9taphorique.<\/p><p>Si le film souffre certainement de quelques longueurs et de ruptures de tons qui laissent une impression mitig\u00e9e sur cet entre-deux d\u2019un sujet particuli\u00e8rement s\u00e9rieux et un d\u00e9calage ridiculo-comique dans certaines sc\u00e8nes et chor\u00e9graphies. \u00ab\u00a0La Vague\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose n\u00e9anmoins comme une \u0153uvre galvanisante pour sa pulsion, sa puissance visuelle et son ouverture au d\u00e9bat. First, \u201cThe Wave\u201d is the portrait of a young singer student (Daniela L\u00f3pez) who sees this social movement take shape in the first half of the film, in which she participates but only as a member of a whole, before the film shifts and she suddenly becomes the torchbearer of the movement, the embodiment of the whole, the allegory of the social phenomenon: all the characters then know her name and her story, much better than she does herself. But the heart of the matter is also, ultimately, this willingness and courage to accuse men, to denounce aggressors, and ultimately to speak out. But this speaking out is done through words, through the voice, and what is the voice in art? It is singing! To illustrate this point, we find a musical right from the opening scene at the university, where a crowd of female students unite through song and choreography to shout their rage at an education system that does not protect them. The film thus allegorizes its two central themes, on the one hand the issue of consent and sexual abuse, and on the other hand that of denunciation and speaking out through a protagonist who must (in a polysemic way) find her voice.<\/p><p>While the style obviously brings to mind \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d, released last year on another issue concerning women and sexuality in Latin America, \u201cThe Wave\u201d addresses its subject much more head-on. Through its choreography, the Chilean film truly embraces the dynamics of confrontation and debate on the fine line between abuse and rape, and between feeling and being assaulted. What is rape? Who is to blame? And is that really the right question? The film chooses not to offer a definitive answer, instead facing the challenge of not sidestepping any position or taking sides, with sung dialogues that lay out the arguments of the different groups of characters, each representing a position in this heated debate. While this choice creates a distance from characters we ultimately know little about, it is also a strength to open up such a debate without ever closing it.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24224 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5056.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5056.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5056-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5056-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Snapshot_5056-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Especially since the script offers some great ideas that really expand on the film&rsquo;s theme, particularly through a scene that ties in with one of the underlying themes of The Wonder about the use of cinema to portray ideas, as well as a sequence of debriefing that begins with the various decisions made during the hearing, accumulating and moving further and further away from the facts and direct consequences, in a prediction of the future of the two characters on trial, taking this idea all the way to their personal, relational, and professional prospects. This narrative inventiveness is also reflected in its energetic and vibrant filmmaking.<\/p><p>Between Chile and his portraits of women who challenge conventions (Gloria; A Fantastic Woman) and the United States and his socio-religious clashes (Disobedience; The Wonder), Sebasti\u00e1n Lelio once again displays his talent as a storyteller exploring societal nuances in a meticulously crafted production, featuring colorful, flashy cinematography and constantly moving shots that echo the winds of change brought about by a wave of youthful uprising. Together with his collaborators (composer Matthew Herbert and choreographer Ryan Heffington), he adopts an electric and explosive style in which bodies dance and sing frenetically in appropriate (and sometimes quite sexualized) choreographies that take up more and more space on the university campus as the voices of the dancers become increasingly powerful, eventually bringing together more than a hundred dancers. He then plays with the framework of his musical, enshrining the spaces in a disturbing disorientation and artificiality of his set, like a surreal and metaphorical labyrinth.<\/p><p>While the film certainly suffers from a few overlong moments and shifts in tone that leave a mixed impression, oscillating between a particularly serious subject and a ridiculous, comical gap in certain scenes and choreography. Nonetheless, \u201cThe Wave\u201d stands out as a galvanizing work for its urge, its visual power, and its openness to debate. Menos sobre la pol\u00edtica chilena o sudamericana propiamente dicha que sobre una cuesti\u00f3n finalmente universal, la pel\u00edcula narra un grito, un sonido que resuena y provoca una onda expansiva, una ola de ira, un tsunami a punto de inundar la tierra firme, poniendo en escena a una protagonista que busca su voz, tanto literal como metaf\u00f3ricamente.<\/p><p>La pel\u00edcula se articula en torno a una doble alegor\u00eda, tanto en su forma como en su fondo. En primer lugar, \u201cLa ola\u201d es el retrato de una joven estudiante del conservatorio (Daniela L\u00f3pez) que ve c\u00f3mo se construye este movimiento social en la primera mitad de la pel\u00edcula, en la que participa, pero solo como un miembro m\u00e1s del conjunto, antes de que la pel\u00edcula cambie y ella se convierta de repente en la abanderada del movimiento, la encarnaci\u00f3n del conjunto, la alegor\u00eda del fen\u00f3meno social: todos los personajes conocen entonces su nombre y su historia, mucho mejor que ella misma. Pero el quid de la cuesti\u00f3n es tambi\u00e9n, en \u00faltima instancia, esa voluntad y ese valor de acusar a los hombres, de denunciar a los agresores, en definitiva, de alzar la voz. Ahora bien, ese acto de alzar la voz pasa por las palabras, pasa por la voz, y \u00bfqu\u00e9 es la voz en el arte? \u00a1Es el canto! Para ilustrar esta idea, descubrimos un musical desde la escena introductoria en la universidad, donde una marea de estudiantes se une a trav\u00e9s del canto y la coreograf\u00eda para gritar su rabia ante un sistema educativo que no las protege. La pel\u00edcula alegoriza as\u00ed sus dos temas centrales: por un lado, la cuesti\u00f3n del consentimiento y los abusos sexuales y, por otro, la denuncia y la toma de la palabra a trav\u00e9s de una protagonista que debe (de forma polis\u00e9mica) encontrar su voz.<\/p><p>Si bien la forma recuerda inevitablemente a \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d, estrenada el a\u00f1o pasado y centrada en otra cuesti\u00f3n femenina y de sexualidad en Am\u00e9rica Latina, \u201cLa ola\u201d aborda su tema de forma mucho m\u00e1s directa. A trav\u00e9s de sus coreograf\u00edas, la pel\u00edcula chilena aborda verdaderamente la din\u00e1mica de confrontaci\u00f3n y debate sobre la delgada l\u00ednea que separa el abuso de la violaci\u00f3n y entre el sentimiento y el hecho de ser agredida. \u00bfQu\u00e9 es una violaci\u00f3n? \u00bfA qui\u00e9n se le atribuye la culpa? \u00bfY es realmente esa la pregunta correcta? Si decide no ofrecer una respuesta definitiva, es para afrontar el reto de no eludir ninguna postura y no tomar partido, en di\u00e1logos cantados que construyen los argumentos de los diferentes grupos de personajes, cada uno de los cuales representa una postura en este acalorado debate. Esta inventiva narrativa tambi\u00e9n se refleja en su direcci\u00f3n en\u00e9rgica y vibrante.<\/p><p>Entre Chile y sus retratos de mujeres que rompen los c\u00f3digos (Gloria; Una mujer fant\u00e1stica) y Estados Unidos y sus colisiones sociorreligiosas (Desobediencia; El Prodigio), Sebasti\u00e1n Lelio confirma su talento como narrador que explora los matices sociales en una puesta en escena siempre muy trabajada, con una fotograf\u00eda muy colorida y llamativa en planos en constante movimiento que se hacen eco del viento de cambio que trae consigo una juventud rebelde. Junto con sus colaboradores (el compositor Matthew Herbert y el core\u00f3grafo Ryan Heffington), opta por un estilo el\u00e9ctrico y explosivo en el que los cuerpos bailan y cantan fren\u00e9ticamente en coreograf\u00edas apropiadas (y a veces bastante sexualizadas) que ocupan cada vez m\u00e1s espacio en este campus universitario a medida que la libertad de expresi\u00f3n se emancipa hasta reunir a m\u00e1s de un centenar de bailarinas. Juega entonces con el marco de su comedia musical, enmarcando los espacios en una inquietante desorientaci\u00f3n y artificialidad de su decorado, como un laberinto surrealista y metaf\u00f3rico.<\/p><p>Si bien la pel\u00edcula adolece sin duda de algunos momentos largos y cambios de tono que dejan una impresi\u00f3n ambigua entre un tema particularmente serio y un desajuste rid\u00edculamente c\u00f3mico en algunas escenas y coreograf\u00edas. \u201cLa ola\u201d se impone, sin embargo, como una obra estimulante por su impulso, su fuerza visual y su apertura al debate.
