On garde la m\u00eame formule o\u00f9 le r\u00e9alisateur reprend son interpr\u00e9tation du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre d\u00e9tective belge aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019un impressionnant casting quoiqu\u2019un peu moins prestigieux que pour le pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Depuis longtemps repouss\u00e9 pour diverses raisons, du rachat de la <em>Fox<\/em> par <em>Disney<\/em> \u00e0 la pand\u00e9mie de COVID en passant par les accusations envers son r\u00f4le principal, \u00ab Mort sur le Nil \u00bb voit enfin le jour en salles !<\/p><p>Le r\u00e9alisateur actuellement nomm\u00e9 aux Oscars pour son film tr\u00e8s personnel \u00ab Belfast \u00bb en salles cette semaine, et son sc\u00e9nariste Michael Green ont de nouveau pris quelques libert\u00e9s par rapport au roman d\u2019origine en apportant quelques modernisations au statut des personnages, un prologue d\u00e9veloppant un peu le pass\u00e9 et le caract\u00e8re d\u2019Hercule Poirot comme dans leur pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent film, ainsi que toute une premi\u00e8re partie avant d\u2019embarquer sur le Nil o\u00f9 d\u00e9marre r\u00e9ellement le roman. Ces ajouts sont \u00e0 mon sens bienvenus dans la mesure o\u00f9 ils donnent une identit\u00e9 \u00e0 ce remake, le diff\u00e9rencie du film de 1978 et du roman, et raccroche une intrigue des ann\u00e9es 1930 \u00e0 notre \u00e9poque. Cependant, le fait que l\u2019enqu\u00eate ne d\u00e9marre qu\u2019une heure apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but du film for\u00e7ant donc le sc\u00e9nario \u00e0 \u00eatre plus pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9 et donnant une impression d\u2019encha\u00eenements de meurtres et de p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties plut\u00f4t que l\u2019\u00e9tude psychologique des personnages \u00e0 bord propre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9criture d\u2019Agatha Christie. Ceux-ci manquent en effet d\u2019\u00e9paisseur, et m\u00eame si l\u2019intrigue reste bien construite pour conclure sur la grande r\u00e9v\u00e9lation de Poirot, celle-ci reste classique et en devient plus facilement pr\u00e9visible. Si les ajouts sont donc int\u00e9ressants, ils n\u2019apportent pas v\u00e9ritablement de valeur ajout\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre originale, mais peuvent servir d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments sc\u00e9naristiques pour d\u00e9velopper une saga Poirot en humanisant son personnage principal.<\/p><p>Sur le plan technique, \u00ab Mort sur le Nil \u00bb est \u00e9blouissant aux abords du Nil et des pyramides et nous plonge dans les tranch\u00e9es d\u2019un \u00ab 1917 \u00bb avec son prologue aux airs de \u00ab Macbeth \u00bb par Kubrick. Il faut n\u00e9anmoins souligner la faiblesse de la r\u00e9alisation notamment pendant la croisi\u00e8re faite de carton-p\u00e2te et de fonds verts, et parfois film\u00e9e en travellings excessivement rapides. Si la r\u00e9alisation technique n\u2019est donc pas le fort du film malgr\u00e9 une mise en sc\u00e8ne chic adapt\u00e9e au th\u00e8me, la direction d\u2019acteurs est \u00e0 la hauteur avec de bons seconds r\u00f4les m\u00eame si les personnages caricaturaux de Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer ou encore Emma Mackey ne donnent pas vie \u00e0 de remarquables performances.<\/p><p>Dans l\u2019ensemble, \u00ab Mort sur le Nil \u00bb reste donc plaisant et divertissant mais ne marquera pas les esprits et en cette p\u00e9riode de renouveau du <em>whodunnit<\/em> \u00e0 la Christie, la suite de \u00ab A couteux tir\u00e9s \u00bb de Rian Johnson appara\u00eet bien plus int\u00e9ressante. The formula remains the same, with the director taking up his interpretation of the famous Belgian detective alongside an impressive cast, albeit a little less prestigious than for the previous one. For a long time postponed for various reasons, from <em>Disney<\/em>&lsquo;s takeover of <em>Fox<\/em> to the COVID pandemic and the accusations against his lead role, \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d is finally seeing the light of day in theaters!<\/p><p>The director, currently nominated for an Oscar for his very personal film \u201cBelfast\u201d in theaters this week, and his screenwriter Michael Green have again taken some liberties with the original novel by bringing some modernizations to the status of the characters, a prologue developing a little the past and personality of Hercule Poirot as in their previous film, as well as a whole first part before boarding the Nile where the novel actually begins. These additions are, in my opinion, welcome insofar as they give an identity to this remake, differentiate it from the 1978 film and the novel, and connect a 1930s plot to our time. However, the fact that the investigation starts only one hour after the beginning of the film makes the script more rushed and gives an impression of a succession of crimes and twists rather than the psychological study of the characters on board that is inherent to the writing of Agatha Christie. They indeed lack depth, and even if the plot remains well structured to conclude with Poirot&rsquo;s great revelation, it remains classic and becomes more easily predictable. If the additions are interesting, they do not really bring any additional value to the original work, but they can be used as story lines to develop a Poirot saga by humanizing its main character.<\/p><p>Technically, \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d is stunning on the banks of the Nile and the pyramids and plunges us into the trenches of a \u201c1917\u201d with its prologue looking like \u201cMacbeth\u201d by Kubrick. Nevertheless, we must underline the weakness of the production, especially during the cruise, which is made of fake and CGI, and sometimes filmed in excessively fast tracking shots. If the technical production is not the strong point of the film despite a chic staging suited to the theme, the direction of the actors is up to the task with good supporting roles even if the caricatured characters of Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer or even Emma Mackey do not bring remarkable performances to life.<\/p><p>Overall, \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d remains pleasant and entertaining but will not stand out and in this time of renewal of the Christie style whodunnit, the sequel to Rian Johnson&rsquo;s \u201cKnives Out\u201d appears much more exciting. So, rendez-vous on <em>Netflix<\/em> next November &#8230;<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
