le Nil \u00bb par Kenneth Branagh et en attendant \u00ab Glass Onion \u00bb la suite du tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussi et acclam\u00e9 \u00ab A Couteux Tir\u00e9s \u00bb de Rian Johnson, Tom George nous pr\u00e9sente un petit interlude dans le genre des polars \u00e0 \u00e9nigmes alias <em>Cluedo<\/em> alias <em>Whodunnit<\/em> avec son \u00ab Coup de Th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00bb.<\/p><p>Pour son premier long-m\u00e9trage en tant que r\u00e9alisateur, il nous plonge dans le West End londonien des ann\u00e9es 1950 o\u00f9 l\u2019adaptation cin\u00e9matographique d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce de th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00e0 succ\u00e8s est brutalement interrompue par un meurtre. Nous retrouvons alors l\u2019inspecteur Stoppard en charge de l\u2019enqu\u00eate aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019agent Stalker. Scotland Yard enqu\u00eate alors sur les coulisses du \u201cgreatest murder ever staged\u201d (excellente tagline du poster VO mais meilleur titre VF). Comme le film l\u2019annonce d\u00e8s son incipit \u201cQuand on a vu un whodunnit on les a tous vus\u201d \u2026 oui mais non car s\u2019il reste tr\u00e8s classique dans sa forme il ne faut pas tirer des conclusions trop h\u00e2tives !<\/p><p>Comme le veut donc la tradition, le film r\u00e9unit un impressionnant casting \u00e0 commencer par son duo principal remplissant les crit\u00e8res d\u2019une bonne enqu\u00eate comique : moustache, allure l\u00e9g\u00e8rement particuli\u00e8re, attitude totalement blas\u00e9e, bref un d\u00e9tective dans sa plus grande forme face \u00e0 une jeune recrue du genre z\u00e9l\u00e9e. Deux personnages plut\u00f4t caricaturaux mais dont l\u2019alchimie fonctionne \u00e0 merveille gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 deux acteurs, Saoirse Ronan et un Sam Rockwell \u00e0 l\u2019accent londonien l\u00e9g\u00e8rement alcoolis\u00e9, qui s\u2019en donnent \u00e0 c\u0153ur joie. Le reste de la troupe inclut notamment Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, Harris Dickinson et David Oyelowo.<\/p><p>Mais il brise \u00e9galement cette tradition en d\u00e9construisant les r\u00e8gles du whodunnit en les formulant clairement et en les \u00e9num\u00e9rant directement au spectateur. Son sc\u00e9nario est par ailleurs imbriqu\u00e9 avec celui de l\u2019adaptation d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce d\u2019Agatha Christie elle-m\u00eame pour aboutir tr\u00e8s logiquement sur un deus ex machina de la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre romanci\u00e8re anglaise. Il fait donc \u00e0 la fois preuve d\u2019un humour plut\u00f4t meta ou d\u00e9constructiviste si l\u2019on veut bien qu\u2019il n\u2019ait rien \u00e0 voir avec le mouvement architectural (le film a \u00e9t\u00e9 tourn\u00e9 en plein Londres en remerciant pr\u00e9cieusement la pand\u00e9mie de Covid), mais aussi d\u2019un humour tr\u00e8s british.<\/p><p>C\u2019est donc une com\u00e9die polici\u00e8re tr\u00e8s sympathique qui joue avec les codes du genre. Seul b\u00e9mol \u00e0 l\u2019horizon : le puzzle en lui-m\u00eame, l\u2019intrigue n\u2019\u00e9tant pas forc\u00e9ment tr\u00e8s captivante et la r\u00e9v\u00e9lation pas aussi forte que celle \u00e0 laquelle on pouvait s\u2019attendre. We then meet Inspector Stoppard in charge of the investigation alongside Agent Stalker. Scotland Yard thus investigates on the backstage of the \u00ab\u00a0greatest murder ever staged\u00a0\u00bb (excellent tagline of the original movie poster, but better title in French). As the film announces in its opening \u00ab\u00a0When you&rsquo;ve seen a whodunnit you&rsquo;ve seen them all\u00a0\u00bb &#8230; yes and no, because if it remains very conventional in its form, you shouldn&rsquo;t jump to conclusions!<\/p><p>As tradition goes, the film gathers an impressive cast, starting with its main duet that fulfills the criteria of a good comic investigation: mustache, slightly peculiar look, totally blas\u00e9 attitude, in short, a detective at his best facing a young recruit of the zealous kind. Two rather caricatural characters whose chemistry works wonderfully thanks to two actors, Saoirse Ronan and a Sam Rockwell with a slightly boozy London accent, who have a lot of fun. The rest of the cast includes Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, Harris Dickinson and David Oyelowo.<\/p><p>But he also breaks tradition by deconstructing the rules of a whodunnit by stating them clearly and enumerating them directly to the viewer. The script is also interwoven with the adaptation of a play by Agatha Christie herself, leading logically to a deus ex machina of the famous English novelist. It shows a rather meta humor or a deconstructivist one, although it has nothing to do with the architectural movement (the film was shot in the middle of London, thanks to the Covid pandemic), but also a very British one.<\/p><p>It is therefore a very nice crime comedy that plays with the codes of the genre. The only downside is the puzzle itself, the plot not being very captivating and the revelation not as strong as expected. Nevertheless, the mystery is well preserved insofar as the viewer does need the help of a mildly experienced detective to gather the clues and reveal the killer!<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
