Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019une simple id\u00e9e du sh\u00e9rif du coin et qu\u2019une s\u00e9rie d\u2019autres \u00e9v\u00e8nements locaux comme nationaux a priori sans lien fassent tout vriller.<\/p><p>Quatri\u00e8me long-m\u00e9trage d\u2019Ari Aster apr\u00e8s le troublant \u00ab H\u00e9r\u00e9dit\u00e9 \u00bb, l\u2019excellent \u00ab Midsommar \u00bb et l\u2019\u00e9tonnant \u00ab Beau Is Afraid \u00bb, \u00ab Eddington \u00bb s\u2019inscrit plut\u00f4t dans la lign\u00e9e d\u00e9cal\u00e9e mais non horrifique du troisi\u00e8me film du r\u00e9alisateur, \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence pr\u00e8s qu\u2019ici la kyrielle de p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties et rebondissements para\u00eet \u00e9trangement et terriblement vraisemblable.<\/p><p>Avec une multitude non exhaustive de th\u00e9matiques et de sous-intrigues port\u00e9es chacune par un ou plusieurs personnages (le sh\u00e9rif se r\u00e9duisant par moments \u00e0 un simple fil rouge au profit d\u2019autres protagonistes), \u00ab Eddington \u00bb forme un concentr\u00e9 explosif de la complexit\u00e9 des fractures socio-\u00e9conomico-politiques des \u00c9tats-Unis d\u2019Am\u00e9rique. C\u2019est un film qui d\u00e9nonce avec amertume et violence l\u2019hyper-individualisme d\u2019une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 infiniment divis\u00e9e en une pl\u00e9thore de bulles cognitives, o\u00f9 les ambitions personnelles s\u2019entrem\u00ealent \u00e0 des peurs, des traumatismes et des parano\u00efas qui nourrissent des id\u00e9ologies fragmentaires, le tout cr\u00e9ant alors une immense dissonance et une aberrante d\u00e9sunion de la population. L\u2019on sent bien certes qu\u2019il y a une l\u00e9g\u00e8re exag\u00e9ration des comportements et discours \u00e0 des fins sc\u00e9naristiques, mais lorsque l\u2019on y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit, la ville d\u2019Eddington n\u2019est en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 que le reflet de tout un pays, voire de tout un monde, pr\u00eat(s) \u00e0 s\u2019embraser \u00e0 n\u2019importe quelle occasion d\u2019\u00e9tincelle.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21705 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Ainsi, des sympathisants ambivalents de Black Lives Matter aux r\u00e9calcitrants anti-vax, de la galaxie des complotistes aux contradictions des \u00e9cologistes, des dirigeants plus ou moins corrompus par les entrepreneurs incarnant un progr\u00e8s douteux aux marginaux pr\u00eats \u00e0 \u00e9mettre des d\u00e9nonciations calomnieuses \u00e0 des fins revanchardes ou politiques, des gens esseul\u00e9s par la maladie ou la vieillesse aux gourous n\u00e9o-sectaires, \u00ab Eddington \u00bb n\u2019\u00e9pargne personne.<\/p><p>Toutefois, malgr\u00e9 un casting de renom (Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal ou encore Emma Stone, pour ne citer qu\u2019eux) et un fond particuli\u00e8rement marquant \u2013 et d\u2019ailleurs en raison de cette m\u00eame richesse \u2013 le film p\u00e2tit d\u2019une arythmie comparable \u00e0 celle de \u00ab Beau Is Afraid \u00bb. \u00ab Eddington \u00bb entrem\u00eale certes avec finesse toute une panoplie d\u2019enjeux expliquant de fait le fatras qu\u2019est une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 aussi morcel\u00e9e, mais cela s\u2019accompagne de longueurs ou \u00e0 l\u2019inverse de rapides changements de registre quelquefois difficiles \u00e0 assimiler. De sorte que l\u2019on retient bien plus le fait que le long-m\u00e9trage soit bord\u00e9lique narrativement que happant visuellement ou cin\u00e9matographiquement. That is, until a simple idea from the local sheriff and a series of other seemingly unrelated local and national events throw everything into turmoil.<\/p><p>Ari Aster&rsquo;s fourth feature, after the unsettling \u201cHereditary\u201d, the brilliant \u201cMidsommar\u201d and the bewildering \u201cBeau Is Afraid\u201d, \u201cEddington\u201d follows in the quirky but non-horrific footsteps of the director&rsquo;s third film, except that here the slew of twists and turns seems strangely and frighteningly plausible.<\/p><p>With a non-exhaustive plethora of themes and subplots, each conveyed by one or more characters (the sheriff at times being reduced to a mere supporting role in favor of other protagonists), \u201cEddington\u201d provides an explosive concentration of the complexity of the socio-economic-political divides in the United States of America. It&rsquo;s a film that bitterly and violently denounces the hyper-individualism of a society infinitely fractured into a plethora of cognitive bubbles, where personal ambitions intermingle with fears, traumas and paranoias that feed fragmented ideologies, all of which then create tremendous dissonance and abysmal disunity among the population. There&rsquo;s a slight exaggeration of behavior and discourse for the sake of the script, but when you think about it, the town of Eddington is really just a reflection of an entire country, or even an entire world, ready to ignite at any given opportunity.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21705 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4508-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>So, from ambivalent Black Lives Matter sympathizers to stubborn vaccine-deniers, from the galaxy of conspiracy theorists to the contradictions of eco-activists, from leaders more or less corrupted by entrepreneurs embodying dubious progress to outsiders ready to issue slanderous accusations for vindictive or political ends, from lonely folks afflicted by illness or old age to neo-sectarian gurus, \u201cEddington\u201d spares no one.<\/p><p>However, despite a stellar cast (Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone, to name but a few) and a particularly striking storyline \u2013 and in fact due to this very substance \u2013 the film suffers from an arrhythmia comparable to that of \u201cBeau Is Afraid\u201d. Although \u201cEddington\u201d cleverly interweaves a whole range of issues to explain the hodgepodge that is such a fragmented society, this is coupled with lengthy or, conversely, rapid changes of tone that are sometimes difficult to digest. As a result, the film&rsquo;s messy narrative is far more memorable than its visual or cinematographic qualities. In short, despite an undeniably coherent and topical narrative, the sporadic style of \u201cEddington\u201d will neither strike nor win over everyone.<\/p><p>Axel
