L\u00e0 o\u00f9 Tony Scott avait fait son \u00ab\u00a0Days of Thunder\u00a0\u00bb sur la NASCAR apr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Top Gun\u00a0\u00bb, Joseph Kosinski s\u2019attaque donc apr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Maverick\u00a0\u00bb au monde de la F1\u00a0!<\/p><p>Le film met ainsi en sc\u00e8ne litt\u00e9ralement un <em>maverick<\/em>, un ancien pilote prodige que son ami maintenant propri\u00e9taire d\u2019\u00e9curie appelle \u00e0 la rescousse. Le vieux roublard va alors devoir montrer qu\u2019il en a toujours sous le capot, et qu\u2019il est pr\u00eat \u00e0 collaborer avec son jeune co\u00e9quipier plein de fougue (Damson Idris). Avec une petite dose de suspense, et une grosse d\u2019adr\u00e9naline entre deux virages romantiques et dramatiques, c\u2019est un sc\u00e9nario balis\u00e9 qui joue du charme vieillissant de sa star et assume son statut de dinosaure (un brin moralisateur). Alors oui le d\u00e9veloppement du personnage de Brad Pitt est au point mort, mais ce n\u2019est pas une \u00e9tude de personnage, c\u2019est clairement un film sur son environnement, sur son sport, sur des machines, un film de sensations, de frissons, un pur divertissement <em>fun<\/em>.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0F1\u00a0\u00bb privil\u00e9gie donc clairement le grand spectacle au sc\u00e9nario en mettant la gomme en termes visuels et sonores dans un format <em>IMAX<\/em> tout du long et une bande-son \u00e0 combustion toujours sign\u00e9e Hans Zimmer au gr\u00e9 de chansons pop du moment. C\u2019est un blockbuster on\u00e9reux dont le m\u00e9ga-budget ($200-300M) se retrouve \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran dans douze s\u00e9quences de courses magnifiquement film\u00e9es avec fluidit\u00e9, \u00e9l\u00e9gance, et \u00e9nergie pour une immersion bluffante aussi bien \u00e0 la place du pilote (plans dans le cockpit, sensations de vitesse) qu\u2019\u00e0 la place du spectateur (plans larges, points de vue ext\u00e9rieurs avec les commentateurs). Les effets sp\u00e9ciaux sont tr\u00e8s subtils mais particuli\u00e8rement r\u00e9ussis pour int\u00e9grer les monoplaces de nos deux personnages dans le v\u00e9ritable peloton, y compris lors de magnifiques d\u00e9passements o\u00f9 le bolide de Brad Pitt en remplace d\u2019autres (Hamilton sur Leclerc \u00e0 Mexico).<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20985 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>N\u00e9anmoins, bien que les visuels soient tr\u00e8s impressionnants, ils apparaissent moins \u00e9poustouflants que ceux de \u00ab\u00a0Maverick\u00a0\u00bb qui \u00e9taient, il faut le dire, in\u00e9dits alors que le film \u00ab\u00a0F1\u00a0\u00bb reproduit de nombreux angles des diffusions t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9es de grands-prix. Evidemment, la r\u00e9solution 4k et certains angles de prises de vues (notamment les plans panoramiques fix\u00e9s \u00e0 la monoplace) apportent une vraie valeur ajout\u00e9e pour l\u2019immersion dans les man\u0153uvres de course. Mais sinon, en termes de spectacle, ce n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessairement plus vertigineux qu\u2019une vraie course.<\/p><p>Se rapprocher le plus possible d\u2019une vraie course est justement l\u2019objectif d\u2019un tel film qui a plac\u00e9 le r\u00e9alisme au c\u0153ur de son processus de tournage lors de neuf vrais week-ends de grand-prix, donc sur les vrais circuits, avec les vraies \u00e9curies, les vrais pilotes, dans de vraies situations avec de vraies monoplaces (F2 remodel\u00e9es par Mercedes), dans de vrais locaux (ceux de Mclaren), ainsi qu\u2019une vraie soufflerie (celle de Williams). En somme, c\u2019est un film qui \u00e9pouse v\u00e9ritablement son environnement professionnel, en le simplifiant certes mais en repr\u00e9sentant bel et bien l\u2019essence du m\u00e9tier et des diff\u00e9rents r\u00f4les de ce \u2018sport d\u2019\u00e9quipe\u2019 en incluant m\u00eame des s\u00e9quences au simulateur, ou encore des r\u00e9unions de strat\u00e9gies de courses ou de d\u00e9veloppement de la voiture.<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s il y a effectivement quelques faits peu cr\u00e9dibles dans les courses, mais ces petits d\u00e9tails ont souvent une explication dans le d\u00e9roulement de la course ou les choix de l\u2019\u00e9curie. Car si le sc\u00e9nario n\u2019est clairement pas le moteur d\u2019un tel film, avec une trame tr\u00e8s simple (voire simplette) sur les relations de personnages et les enjeux sportifs, les sc\u00e9narios de course sont eux en revanche assez surprenants et ing\u00e9nieux, bien que tr\u00e8s roublards et \u00e0 la limite de la \u2018course automobile\u2019 \u2013 c\u2019est un peu du Flavio Briatore<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20981 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Mais le probl\u00e8me fondamental du film r\u00e9side dans son choix de se concentrer exclusivement sur les courses qui s\u2019encha\u00eenent sans la moindre s\u00e9ance de qualifications. Or, si la direction de d\u00e9veloppement a\u00e9rodynamique choisie par l\u2019\u00e9curie est bien expliqu\u00e9e et devrait effectivement am\u00e9liorer consid\u00e9rablement la voiture comparativement aux adversaires en courses et donc permettre aux pilotes d\u2019obtenir de meilleurs r\u00e9sultats, elle devrait aussi compromettre leurs qualifications, ce qui ne rend donc pas la progression de l\u2019\u00e9quipe durant la saison parfaitement cr\u00e9dible.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0F1\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose donc comme un film dans un dr\u00f4le d\u2019entre-deux, qui devrait \u00e0 la fois ravir aussi bien certains fans de course que certains profanes, tout en d\u00e9cevant aussi (l\u00e9g\u00e8rement) d\u2019autres adeptes de la discipline ou n\u00e9ophytes. Mais dans l\u2019ensemble, ce film notamment co-produit par Sir Lewis Hamilton r\u00e9ussit haut la main sa mission avec une intrigue didactique et pr\u00e9cise sur ce sport dans une mise en sc\u00e8ne saisissante. The old hotshot then has to show that he&rsquo;s still got it, and that he&rsquo;s ready to work with his spirited young teammate (Damson Idris). With a bit of suspense and a lot of adrenaline in between the romantic and dramatic turns, this is a formulaic script that capitalizes on its star&rsquo;s aging charm and embraces his (slightly preachy) dinosaur status. So, yes, Brad Pitt&rsquo;s character development is stuck in neutral, but this isn&rsquo;t a character study, it&rsquo;s clearly a film about its environment, its sport, its machines, a film of thrills and chills, a pure, fun entertainment.<\/p><p>\u201cF1\u201d therefore clearly favors the big spectacle over the storyline, going all out in terms of visuals and sound, with an <em>IMAX<\/em> aspect ratio throughout and an explosive soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, featuring the latest pop songs. It&rsquo;s an expensive blockbuster whose mega-budget ($200-300M) is shown on screen in twelve racing sequences beautifully filmed with fluidity, elegance and energy, for a stunning immersion both in the driver&rsquo;s seat (shots in the cockpit, feeling of speed) and in the spectator&rsquo;s seat (wide shots, exterior viewpoints with commentators). The special effects are very subtle, but particularly convincing in integrating the cars of our two characters into the real pack, including during some wonderful overtaking maneuvers in which Brad Pitt&rsquo;s car replaces others (Hamilton on Leclerc in Mexico).<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20985 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4277-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Nevertheless, while the visuals are very impressive, they appear less breathtaking than those of \u201cMaverick\u201d, which were, it must be said, unprecedented, whereas the \u201cF1\u201d film reproduces many of the angles of grand-prix TV broadcasts. Obviously, the 4k resolution and some of the camera angles ( especially the panning shots fixed to the car) provide real added value in terms of immersion in the race maneuvers. But otherwise, in terms of spectacle, it&rsquo;s not necessarily any more thrilling than a real race.<\/p><p>Getting as close as possible to a real race is precisely the aim of such a film, which put realism at the heart of its shooting process during nine real grand-prix weekends, i.e. on real circuits, with real teams, real drivers, in real situations with real single-seaters (F2s redesigned by Mercedes), in real facilities (Mclaren&rsquo;s), as well as a real wind tunnel (Williams&rsquo;). In short, this is a film that truly embraces its professional environment, simplifying it of course, but representing the essence of the profession and the different roles in this \u2018team sport\u2019, even including simulator sequences, race strategy meetings and car development discussions.<\/p><p>After all, there are a few things that may not be very believable in the races, but these little details often have an explanation in the unfolding of the race or in the choices made by the team. While the screenplay is clearly not the driving force behind such a film, with a very simple (if not simplistic) plot about character relationships and sporting stakes, the race scenarios are on the other hand quite surprising and ingenious, albeit very cunning and at the very limit of \u2018motor racing\u2019 \u2013 somewhat akin to Flavio Briatore.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20981 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Snapshot_4273-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>But the core issue with the film lies in its choice to focus exclusively on the races, which follow one another without a single qualifying session. While the aerodynamic development direction chosen by the team is well explained and should indeed considerably improve the car compared to its rivals in the races, and thus enable the drivers to achieve better results, it should also compromise their qualifications, which doesn&rsquo;t make the team&rsquo;s progress during the season entirely convincing.<\/p><p>So, \u201cF1\u201d stands out as a film in a strange in-between position, which should delight both some racing fans and newcomers, while also (slightly) disappointing other devotees of the discipline or laymen. Overall, however, this film, which Sir Lewis Hamilton co-produced, very much succeeds in its mission, with a didactic and accurate plot about this sport in a strikingly shot visual style.
