Cette derni\u00e8re est aussi docile et timide que la premi\u00e8re est coriace et rageuse. Le r\u00e9alisateur bulgare Konstantin Bojanov explore ainsi les liens tendres et conflictuels de ces deux femmes qui vont peu \u00e0 peu s\u2019\u00e9manciper au contact de l\u2019autre. Au sein d\u2019une culture hindie et d\u2019une communaut\u00e9 Devadasi marginalis\u00e9e mais o\u00f9 les pr\u00eatresses conservent un semblant de rang social, il m\u00e9lange des probl\u00e9matique modernes et des coutumes s\u00e9culaires autour de plusieurs th\u00e9matiques : de l\u2019amour \u00e0 la sexualit\u00e9, en passant par le libre-arbitre et l\u2019expression artistique, et dans la limite des castes et des croyances religieuses de l\u2019Inde actuelle.<\/p><p>Mais si la multiplicit\u00e9 des sujets abord\u00e9s enrichit certes le fond et l\u2019environnement du r\u00e9cit, elle rend sa narration un peu trop \u00e9parpill\u00e9e. Si le c\u0153ur du film r\u00e9side bien dans la relation entre son duo de personnages principaux, la trame se perd parfois dans certaines sc\u00e8nes en partant sur d\u2019autres sujets \u2013 qui ne sont pas inint\u00e9ressants \u2013 mais bien d\u00e9connect\u00e9s. La petite dimension proph\u00e9tique (avec ses visions potentiellement pr\u00e9monitoires) est ainsi int\u00e9ressante mais aurait clairement pu aller plus loin plut\u00f4t que de simplement saupoudrer le r\u00e9cit sans vraie cons\u00e9quence. De m\u00eame, l\u2019expression artistique est un sujet compl\u00e8tement abandonn\u00e9 d\u00e8s la fin du premier arc. Et d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part, en m\u00e9langeant les introductions de personnages, la mise en relation des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de l\u2019intrigue aurait peut-\u00eatre pu \u00eatre construite de mani\u00e8re plus claire et coh\u00e9rente sans forc\u00e9ment devoir alourdir le propos avec des dialogues soulign\u00e9s.<\/p><p>L\u2019ensemble navigue ainsi entre le film d\u2019\u00e9mancipation et le thriller socialo-policier sans poser suffisamment l\u2019encre d\u2019une narration qui par cons\u00e9quent peine \u00e0 nous captiver pleinement. The latter is as docile and timid as the former is tough and raging. Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov explores the tender and conflicting bonds between these two women, who gradually emancipate themselves through their relationship with each other. Set in a Hindu culture and a marginalized Devadasi community where priestesses retain a semblance of social standing, he blends modern issues and age-old customs around a number of themes: from love to sexuality, from free will to artistic expression, all within the confines of the castes and religious beliefs of present-day India.<\/p><p>But while the wide range of subjects certainly enriches the story&rsquo;s background and setting, it also makes the narrative a little too scattered. While the heart of the film lies in the relationship between its duo of main characters, the plot sometimes loses its focus in certain scenes, moving on to other issues \u2013 which are not uninteresting &#8211; but quite unrelated. The small prophetic dimension (with its potentially premonitory visions) is thus interesting, but clearly could have gone further rather than simply sprinkling the narrative with no real consequences. Similarly, artistic expression is a subject completely dropped at the end of the first arc. And right from the start, by mixing character introductions, the connection between plot elements could perhaps have been set up in a clearer, more coherent way, without necessarily having to weigh the story down with over-emphasized dialogue.<\/p><p>The film thus fluctuates between emancipation film and social-police thriller, without sufficiently anchoring the narrative, which consequently struggles to fully captivate us. But \u201cThe Shameless\u201d remains a beautiful film (shot in Nepal), with excellent performances from actresses Anasuya Sengupta and Omara, and a very good final third with a lovely metaphor for Indian society at the end.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
