Et pourtant, leurs deux parcours pr\u00e9sentent d\u2019\u00e9tranges similitudes, d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019une troisi\u00e8me personne, Camila, a pu t\u00e9moigner des \u00e9v\u00e8nements. Car toutes trois ont notamment fini par percevoir un son effrayant : celui d\u2019un cri \u2013 \u00ab llanto \u00bb, en espagnol, titre original du film.<\/p><p>R\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Pedro Mart\u00edn-Calero et co-\u00e9crit par Isabel Pe\u00f1a (connue pour \u00eatre la co-sc\u00e9nariste d\u2019\u00ab As Bestas \u00bb), \u00ab Les Maudites \u00bb est un thriller horrifique divis\u00e9 en trois chapitres, incarn\u00e9s \u00e0 chaque fois par une femme qui en devient l\u2019h\u00e9ro\u00efne et dont on adopte le point de vue. Dans chacun de ces tiers, l\u2019on se prend d\u2019affection pour les personnages \u2013 quoique peut-\u00eatre un peu moins pour Marie que l\u2019on voit moins \u2013, de sorte qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019horreur s\u2019ajoute la trag\u00e9die pour les membres de ce trio.<\/p><p>Le long-m\u00e9trage est de surcro\u00eet et logiquement scind\u00e9 en deux \u00e9poques distinctes, o\u00f9 m\u00eame les supports visuels et les prises d\u2019images diff\u00e8rent, passant de l\u2019analogique des ann\u00e9es 1990 au tout-puissant num\u00e9rique des ann\u00e9es 2020. Mais cette scission a la particularit\u00e9 de ne pas se faire trop ressentir lors du visionnage, premi\u00e8rement parce que les deux parties ont \u00e9t\u00e9 liss\u00e9es de sorte \u00e0 ce qu\u2019elles soient similaires \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran, et deuxi\u00e8mement parce que la trame du film est litt\u00e9ralement cauchemardesque de bout en bout.<\/p><p>\u00ab Les Maudites \u00bb propose en effet un triple sc\u00e9nario en m\u00eame temps original et facilement anticipable, \u00e0 l\u2019instar de nos mauvais r\u00eaves dont on conna\u00eet et donc redoute d\u2019autant plus la fin. Yet there are uncanny similarities between the two, especially since a third person, Camila, was able to bear witness to the events. In particular, all three eventually heard a frightening sound: that of a scream \u2013 \u201cllanto\u201d in Spanish, hence the original title of the film.<\/p><p>Directed by Pedro Mart\u00edn-Calero and co-written by Isabel Pe\u00f1a (known as the co-writer of \u201cThe Beasts\u201d), \u201cThe Wailing\u201d is a horrific thriller divided into three chapters, each embodied by a woman who becomes the heroine and whose point of view we embrace. In each of these chapters, we become attached to the characters \u2013 though perhaps a little less so to Marie, whom we see less of \u2013 so that tragedy is added to the horror for the members of this trio.<\/p><p>What&rsquo;s more, the film is logically split into two distinct eras, in which even the picture mediums and camera shots differ, moving from the analog of the 1990s to the all-powerful digital of the 2020s. But this split is not too obvious during viewing, firstly because the two parts have been smoothed out so that they look similar on screen, and secondly because the film&rsquo;s plot is literally nightmarish from start to finish.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Wailing\u201d in fact offers a triple storyline that&rsquo;s both original and yet quite predictable, just like our bad dreams whose end we know and therefore dread all the more. While the film leaves us with more questions than answers, and prompts us to wonder about the symbolic value of certain motifs and apparitions \u2013 for example, those of a banal and disturbing building \u2013 the story shows us that our societies, past and present, are vehicles of inter-generational violence and trauma akin to curses, from which Andrea, Camila and Marie suffer dramatically and terribly.<\/p><p>Axel Chevalier<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ESPA\u00d1OL<\/strong><\/p><p>M\u00e1s de veinte a\u00f1os y diez mil kil\u00f3metros separan las tr\u00e1gicas historias de Andrea \u2013 en Madrid, Espa\u00f1a, en la d\u00e9cada de 2020 \u2013 y Marie \u2013 en La Plata, Argentina, a finales de la d\u00e9cada de 1990. Y, sin embargo, hay extra\u00f1as similitudes entre sus historias, sobre todo porque una tercera persona, Camila, pudo ser testigo de los hechos. En cada uno de estos tercios, nos encari\u00f1amos con los personajes \u2013 aunque quiz\u00e1 un poco menos con Marie, a la que vemos menos \u2013, de modo que el horror se suma a la tragedia para los miembros de este tr\u00edo.<\/p><p>Es m\u00e1s, la pel\u00edcula se divide l\u00f3gicamente en dos \u00e9pocas distintas, en las que incluso los medios visuales y la captura de im\u00e1genes difieren, pasando de la anal\u00f3gica de los 90 a la todopoderosa digital de los 2020. Pero esta divisi\u00f3n no se nota demasiado durante el visionado, en primer lugar porque las dos partes han sido suavizadas para que parezcan similares en pantalla, y en segundo lugar porque la trama de la pel\u00edcula es literalmente pesadillesca de principio a fin.<\/p><p>\u00abEl llanto\u00bb ofrece un triple escenario original y f\u00e1cil de anticipar, como nuestras pesadillas, cuyo final conocemos y, por tanto, tememos a\u00fan m\u00e1s. As\u00ed, mientras la pel\u00edcula nos deja con m\u00e1s preguntas que respuestas, y nos incita a cuestionar el valor simb\u00f3lico de ciertos motivos y apariencias \u2013 por ejemplo, los de un edificio banal e inquietante \u2013, la historia nos muestra que nuestras sociedades, pasadas y presentes, son vectores de violencia y traumas intergeneracionales comparables a maldiciones, de los que
